Witnessing abuse and staying quiet is cowardly. Be it a school bully or a silent Joe Sakic. Pretty simple really.
- FoxMulder

Then 99.99% of society are cowards. I remember when I was 13 years old and me and a buddy of mine were walking to the corner store. We saw and heard a man in his 30's literally manhandling the woman he was with. Slapping her, punching her and kicking her. We saw at least 10 people walk by them doing nothing. It's like they were saying "it's not my problem."

Now I'm 13 years old and this is 2 years before I began exercising vigorously. So there's no way I can beat this guy physically. He's much bigger and much stronger than me. But I know what's going on isn't right. I get in between him and the woman he's assaulting. I tell him to stop and what do you think happens?

He punches me in the gut and the wind is knocked from me. He grabs the woman and takes off in his car. I can only imagine what happened to her when they returned home. So in the end, did I do the right thing? Yes. Did I accomplish anything? No.

In the scenario where you beat him up, you're probably the ones that gets sued or has assault charges brought up against you. In a worse scenario, he does more than knock the wind out of you. More often than not, no good deed goes unpunished.

Probably 99.9999% if truth be told.

In 10th grade I confronted a guy who was verbally abusing and threatening a friend. He was much bigger than I, and I got my nose broke and two teeth knocked out. But I was defending my friend. It was the right thing to do and it was worth it because of that very fact. Who knows, maybe someone saw what happened and that encouraged them to speak out too.

Well I'm lucky he didn't do more damage. Having the wind knocked out of you renders you powerless. At 16, I would've kicked his a$$. There were times I was able to stop people from being bullied.

Years later. I was just unfortunate to not be able to protect that woman on that day when I was 13. But even if I were and was miraculously able to stop him, what would stop him from continuing the abuse when they got home?

Explaining to my parents where I got the big bruise on my ribs was confusing. My Dad tells me how proud he is that I stuck up for the woman being assaulted. But then he tells me that I need to stop looking for trouble? What? My mom tells me to find out who this man is so she can kill him. 😂

And like me if you had to do it over again, you would do the same thing. No regrets. I agree with you that it's the right thing to do. It's just so rare to see it. I don't know how that changes. I mean racism and slavery was never right. So why did it take so long to end it? Did it really end? You could argue there's more racism and slavery going on today than ever before depending on where you live in the world.

The crazy dichotomy of parenting.

"Defend yourself, don't let people bully you!"

**Gets in fight defending himself**

"What the **** were you thinking, you could've been really hurt!"

It's a bit more difficult with something that is institutional and so ingrained into society. It's been 150 years since the Emancipation Proclamation, and we're still talking about institutional racism. That's astonishing. Being from the South, and being able to remember when schools were desegregated, it's demoralizing to see that many of the attitudes that existed in the '70's still exist today. Sometimes it's much more subtle, and other times they seem to flaunt their racism like a badge of honor.

All I can do is to call it out when I see it.

Speaking of being cowardly. That is descriptive of a number of Tanner's comments in the blog.

I dunno, you got a pretty badass story out of it. Also, I am of the opinion that getting beaten can be a valuable experience. You probably learned a lot about yourself that day. More people should try it.

I see it every day. I'm white. My GF is black. Her parents are originally from Barbados. But she was born in Canada. She's just as much a Canadian as I am. Yet people will always ask her which country she's from. She'll always get pulled over when she's driving for no reason. She's always asked "can I help you?" when she's shopping as soon as she walks in the door and is followed the entire time. I don't have to deal with any of that. It's subtle racism. It's hidden but it's there.

My GF was taught by her parents how to deal with that. It's not right and it makes me mad. It takes alot of strength and courage for her to deal with that each day and I admire her for it. I guess my point is, why should she have to deal with it in the first place?

Any Canadian that tells anyone that there's no racism in Canada is ignorant. Would MLK be happy with what's going on today? Is there really much difference between 1968 and 2020?

Well that's true. It took away my fear of being punched. So a few years later I always told myself that no punch could possibly hurt as much as the one I took when I was 13. I was right.

Can someone explain to me this irrational dislike for Tony Deangelo?

Is it because he voted republican?

If so, is that how we decide if people are good or not?

Or is it like the weird Domi hate? By the way read his book as my son was diagnosed with diabetes. Domi has done way more for people than this spiteful blogger.

I recently asked Tanner to provide proof of his claim that D'Angelo was a racist. Crickets. He called Domi a despicable person because he wore Trump socks after Trump was elected POTUS.

He was suspended in junior and is a vocal supporter of a known racist. If someone you support is proven to be a racist and you continue to support that person, that is racist.

All I could find was he said possibly something racist back in 2014. The link doesn't quote what he said, just that he was suspended.

Nothing else has occurred since that time.

Vocal, MAGA hat wearing supporters who go to rallies? 100% Some other people are just not really paying much attention and are being duped, and they are not racist, but they are collaborators.

Is there a data base or a website we can go to that lists who is a known racist? Is there some kind of official list out there somewhere?

(Tanner still has not learned the difference between an opinion and a fact.)
