With Jake Bean receiving the award for defenseman of the year in the AHL, the amount of quality defensemen the Hurricanes have, and the expansion draft upcoming, how much would it cost to get him from the Hurricanes?
He's an LHD and could be the 2nd pair anchor the Sabres could lean on for years to come behind Dahlin on the top pair.

12 of 22 roster spots, or 54%, come off the books this season, including RFA's, who you could technically walk away from if you want. That's a lot and it doesn't happen by accident. - buffalofan19
He has 8 RFA's and he's not walking away from any of them.
At best, he will trade maybe Montour or Pilut due to his hoarding of defensemen, but I doubt even that.
That leaves the UFA's (not counting Hunwick or Sobotka as neither was ever coming back), of which there are 5: Simmonds, Frolik, Vesey, Girgensons, and Larsson.
I believe he traded for both Vesey and Simmonds with the idea he would extend both of them.
That leaves the trio of Folik, Zemgus, and Johan.
Would it really shock you if he brought back both Zemgus and Johan? It wouldn't shock me. |

Antibody Tests Point To Lower Death Rate For The Coronavirus Than First Thought
Mounting evidence suggests the coronavirus is more common and less deadly than it first appeared.
The evidence comes from tests that detect antibodies to the coronavirus in a person's blood rather than the virus itself.
The tests are finding large numbers of people in the U.S. who were infected but never became seriously ill. And when these mild infections are included in coronavirus statistics, the virus appears less dangerous.
"The current best estimates for the infection fatality risk are between 0.5% and 1%," says Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.
That's in contrast with death rates of 5% or more based on calculations that included only people who got sick enough to be diagnosed with tests that detect the presence of virus in a person's body
Pretty much a bad flu season. We were lied to. The sky is falling crowd was pretty laughable.

I just hope he hasn't waited himself into a corner again. It's very easy to just overpay these RFA's and essentially lock yourself into this core. - Lunaion
You sir have converted me to the dark side, which is that it's clear this core is just not good enough.
I understand the advanced stats disciples love Reinhart and what he brings, but I would definitely look to trade him this offseason for a quality, impact Center.
Fixing the team is not as simple as just adding what they have and maybe trading a defenseman while waiting for one of Mittelstadt or Cozens to be ready and actually be good in the NHL.
Real, tangible changes are needed, including big name players.
I have little confidence Botterill is the man for that job.
Speaking of defenseman, I know some love Ristolainen and many others love to hate him, but we have seen that show for a half decade now, and Montour is close to his clone in too many ways.
The three names I'd be looking to trade to shake things up are those three: Ristolainen, Montour, and Reinhart. |

At $20M per after the next 2 seasons. - kingcong39
Yeah, but I’d still do it
Point at 10mil would be about right
Eichel at 10mil is a bargain in 2yrs though
And the Cap is gonna go up again
We’d have the best group of centers in the league
Eichel-Point-Cozens-Larsson😁
Point is a top15 Center in the league
And one of the best 2way Centers as well
Getting him would be amazing |

I think I would do it, but it's not a certainty.
Eichel, Point, and Dahlin at $30M combined annually against the cap: is that a good enough core to win a cup? I'm not certain it is.
He plays with Kucherov. How much is Point and how much is Kucherov?
Also, Point could easily want $11M or even more on his next deal, based on where league finances will be after the next 2 years. |

Just asked Bingo how much it would take to get Bean.
Who would you like to get this offseason, whether by trade or UFA signing?
Good call on Lindholm as I never thought much of him and he blew up last year, although his entire line was a shell of itself this year. |

That’s where the importance of drafting comes into play. You need to consistently have rookies on ELC’s taking up spots in the lineup even if it’s in the bottom 6 or bottom defence pair.
We have a 3 year window here with Cozens and a 2 year window (assuming the guy we draft this year only needs 1 Developmental season) with both Cozens and 2020 pick on ELC’s.
We need to make them count. |

I completely understand anybody who would say you make the trade and figure it out later.
Taking away the pick this year would mean you are relying on Cozens, Mittelstadt, and some of the defense prospects to really be impactful during their ELC's. |

For any team to be successful you need to be able to get contributions from your draft picks.
I’d say it’s 60% drafting, 20% trades, 20% free agency in building a strong team. |

CDC has Covid death rate at 0.26%
Dr. Brix says mortality rate was inflated by as much as 25%
For every 1% increase in unemployment, 5,300 - 10,000 people commit suicide. A California doctor just reported seeing more suicides in 4 weeks than they see in an entire year.
Small businesses destroyed. Large corporations like Target, Walmart, Amazon, etc., completely dominating the market with huge net gains.
I work for a very large corporation. We're on a hiring freeze for the rest of 2020.
The damage done by the shutdown will be felt for years. |

In talking about the successes of Dahlin and Jokiharju, Ristolainen said this: "Buffalo has a bright future, but we’ve been saying the bright future for seven years when I’ve been here and I’m not sure — when is it?"

LOL, That's pretty much verbatim what Harrington asked Botterill yesterday.
Jesus christ, well I'm glad someone on the team is holding Botterill's feet to the coals. Not that it'll make a difference to the way he operates |

You can control killing yourself, you can’t control a virus killing you.
Suicide is selfish, all of the families have to live with that forever.

Well that’s what you get for trading ROR
But sure, he’d be “easy to replace”
And Tage will be a 25 goal scorer (still waiting)
But but but ROR Is a guy u can’t win with
Yeah... right...

I've generally supported JB and his philosophy of slowly rebuilding the system. I haven't loved every move, but it's easy to see the direction. Now the real commitments start, at the worst time imaginable. If Montour + Skinner are the big additions from the last few years, he overpays Sam, Montour, VO, and Ullmark, and Risto is back logging #1 minutes, then I have a problem. It's just not a core that you win with. Many of them have padded stats from playing too high in the lineup, too many minutes, and PP time. We've been buying high and selling low at every turn.
