Do you care when people die from other contagious diseases or only when itโs politically convenient for you. Never heard you mention people dying any other time other then the last three months - Alex the Great
Tell me when was the last time that someone -Anyone (age 1-90) could die from a contagious disease? It NOT political, it doesn't care who you voted for how old you are, what age you are if you have kids, or are a kid. People are weapons, it not unreasonable to expect someone to wear a freaking mask or stay a safe distance any from someone else, but as we see, there are stupid people everywhere. Im sure you don't give a crap, until someone you know is part of the .26% and they die in a hospital alone without anyone there.
Politically convenient.... give me a freaking brake.

I was at Badding Brothers Sunday for some flowers. It was about 86 degrees there when I went. I put a mask in my pocket but didn't wear it. There is no way it can be healthy wearing a mask outside in this heat right now. I was in line to pay and the person behind me had no mask as well. We struck up a great conversation and continued to talk after we both paid. For that duration of the conversation the thought of Covid or the last 3 months never entered my mind and it was incredibly refreshing mentally. That is what we all need to get back to, the fear mongering has got to stop. You're exactly right, the virus is not political, but the politicians have made it completely political.

Good post.
I started this whole conversation yesterday by praising Cuomo's stance on mask-wearing. Wow...what a conversation this has turned into ! Anyway, I think what irritates me the most is the lack of respect and caring for those with underlying conditions. The vast majority of people just don't care - or even think about - their elderly relatives or people with underlying health problems, and that is disturbing. As I mentioned way back in this discussion, my immediate family just can't get this virus, as our son has underlying conditions. You can imagine how careful we've been. We basically don't/can't go anywhere unless we're fully geared up (N95's, gloves, protective glasses). I'll continue gearing up until (if ?) we get a vaccine.
I effing hate this viirus and can't wait for the day it's gone, and we can have hockey discussions the majority of the time in here.

I know many people's heads explode when you mention it in the same sentence, but the flu technically falls under this category.
Regardless, the decision making related to this disease is the same as any other factor when it comes to how society is going to function. There's an inherent amount of risk associated with it. How much are we willing to tolerate? The fact of the matter is the average person (i.e. average age with average health) has a higher chance of dying in a car accident than he does dying from contracting this virus. We didn't necessarily know that 2-3 months ago (although we could make a reasonable guess), but we do know that now, and we have the data to prove it. We don't ask the question "well if one of my family members was in the [significantly low percentage], you would change your story" with any other factor because we have been conditioned to take the emotion out of the decision making, as is necessary for a functioning society. Eventually, we will get there with this virus, because our overall well-being will demand it.

you are correct. but.............
did any of this get passed into law? was anyone allowed to vote on it? - TheHank
Yes.
When our governors were elected, and during the ratification process for the constitution that structures our government the way it is and grants the powers of executive orders to those elected governors.
As to what the details of those powers are in each particular state, I don't know, but I'm sure that any state legislature could override an executive order by passing standard legislation on these issues, and maybe that would be where you'd get more of what you think of as voting.
Of course, regular people wouldn't have any more say in that than they do in the executive orders, just like they don't have any direct say in ANY law that is passed.

Are you that dumb? You donโt think people die of any other contagious disease. People die of simple influenza every year. Wow. You live in ignorant land.

Canโt believe you think this is the first contagious disease and you canโt remember any other one ๐๐๐. Just when you think posters on the board canโt get any dumber.... then you post.
