If the goal was 2020-2021, you don't give yourself a cap overage by winning the frolik sweepstakes.

Idk, it sounds like you think he's playing 4d chess. I think he's just bad at all this.

You also don't ship off a boat load picks either.

Definitely some cases where the players are going to feel cheated, like point totals or games played that they easily would have hit.

My question is on the numbers. Sabres were accruing cap space daily to at least partially pay those bonuses. Is the league going to project this out over the remainder of the season, like CapFriendly has done? If they simply freeze it, we'll get hit with an even bigger penalty next season.

- Lunaion

good question...hopefully the former

FL isn't going to trade Barkov.

Seems like Pilut's agent is trying to leverage a better deal with Buffalo. Wonder if Pilut has the same agent as Borgstrom, he's trying the same tactic with FL.

- Ratsreign

would they trade borgstrom...he had an off year, but he showed some serious promise a couple years ago

I'd love to know how many people thought when we drafted eichel, he would become a superstar and after 5 years, the sabres are still not close to sniffing the playoffs

In a normal season, aren't you allowed to accrue cap space until the end of the league year? If so, why would this be different?
- buffalofan19

It's not until the end of the league year, it's until the end of the regular season. Now, everyone's roster is in a random state. Anyone dealing with injuries gets hurt by projecting things out. It's a strange situation.

it's his quote but i'd hazard to guess it means playing the body whether in front of the net, along the wall or at the blueline
- Michael Pachla

What if playing the body means allowing the other team additional time in the offensive zone?

What if it is means taking yourself out of position to play the body, thereby leaving space and other players open?

What if playing the body means you fail to try and actually take the puck away from the opposing player?

Tallinder was far from a master at playing the body, but he was outstanding at using his stick to take the puck away from opposing players.

Many people fall in love with hitting and paying physically, but I am unsure how much a tangible impact it actually has.

Do you trust Botterill to get quality trades done? I am quite dubious on that.
- kingcong39

That’s the kicker.

Thank you for dahlin, Cozens, and Whomever falls into our plate this year though.

It’s make or break for his entire career this offseason.

I thought we would at least be in the second round by now, showing signs of being a serious cup contender

Ask Buffalol19. Apparently he should’ve won the Art Ross and propelled them to the Stanley Cup in his rookie year. Things happen instantaneous for the group thinkers of the world.

It's hard to say. His trades have been boom or bust.

I still count Skinner as a "boom". Perhaps, it's blue and gold colored glasses, but I think he will perform much closer to 2018-2019 than 2019-2020 for most of his years here, though I don't think he will reach that level again without some luck.

Jokiharju and Kahun fall into that category for me as well.

Busts are the O'Reilly trade and the Kane trade. He seemed more intent on acquiring depth for them rather than a core piece.

Frolik didn't bother me so much. The guy wanted and needed a change of scenery and he took a chance. It didn't work out but there are no real consequences from it. Two years from now, most people are not going to be able to remember Scandella was on this team without consulting the internet. Simmonds...whatever, who cares? He's gone too.

Botterill seems to have a knack for finding low hanging fruit, but he has yet to make the "hockey trade" that turns heads. The question is whether he's even attempted it yet. With both Kane and O'Reilly, ownership seems to have been leaning on him so we don't know what his thinking was there, and we probably never will.

my biggest issue with botts, is the lack of talent and chemistry with the players he brought in

Eichel: Said it's Jason's job to build the lineup, his job is to perform, but adding some depth and veterans and toughness would help.

Lot of Botts defenders on here. I make my point clear on how bad Botts is. Was one if the first and probably most vocal. Small group rush to his defense though so the “arguable” was just thrown in there to prevent the exhaustive responses

the ability to build a team is what gets me.. we have clearly needed another center ever sense they gave ROR to the blues. he is yet to get a center capable of handling 3rd line duties let alone 2nd line duties..

I'm assuming with the NHL's return plan in place and games most likely going into September, free agency and any significant trade activity won't happen until the fall. We're going to be having these discussions for a long, long time.
