You’re right, the US and world would not have been allowed into China and China wasn’t upfront with anyone about the problem. But the president was warned in January and instead of acting he pulled a China and denied there was an issue. It wasn’t until March anything was done. Other countries had similar lead time and followed protocols established by the USA to minimize the impact of the virus. After China the US has only one person, or Administration, for the fact the USA has done the worst job in the world, of countries who report accurately and truthfully. - paulr
At that time did not Trump tell everyone how good China was and he and their leader had a great relationship .You can't believe a word out of that fools mouth . |

Based on what metric? Simply total deaths? OK, but is that a good metric to go by? The US is better in deaths per capita than UK, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium and Ireland.
Oddly, the developed world seems to be doing worse that the developing countries (or that could simply be a reporting issue). |

This is especially true in the area of testing - both the lack of emphasis on testing early (yes, by the middle / end of January) and the lack of locations and supplies after. Even ignoring the lies about having enough testing, "anyone who wants one can get one", etc. - we still are not close to having enough testing availability to understand where the disease is, who is affected, where can we safely open up....
What the administration has failed to recognize is that this is an international pandemic (the definition of pandemic, I guess) - and the administration hasn't (still) reacted with a national emphasis. Instead of letting states be responsible for procuring supplies - testing/ PPE / medical equipment - on the open market, competing against each other as well as against other countries - bidding up the price and not allowing for a rational distribution of the supplies - the effort should have been coordinated at the Federal level. How much time and money and other resources have been wasted by letting the localities be on their own to acquire the medical necessities?
I guess the Trump supporters will consider my opinions to be an "agenda" or a "narrative" - and accuse me of listening to the fake-news / enemy of the people "MSM" - fine. I don't expect to convince any of you.
But we cannot let your mis-informative "agenda" and "narrative" be the only voice. |

Does anyone know how they are going to work with expiring contracts? Don't they normally Expire July 1st? - Chunk
The League and the PA are still negotiating issues - all of this will have to be settled before play can continue (and it will be).
BTW, it's not just players, I think - front office people like scouts also have contracts expiring on July 1 - the draft will be affected (unless they have it in June, without any player movement). |

I'm not defending the response at all. I think it was ham-handed at best. The point I was trying to make was that the disease was already well seeded by the time any warning was given. |

And so were the intelligence committees that were too busy impeaching the president in the House, and too busy selling their stocks in the Senate. I also remember Pelosi standing in SF Chinatown said it was entirely safe in February, and Cuomo and DeBlasio saying nothing to see here in early March. The entire government failed us, not just the bad man in the White House.

You are correct - no one at any level of government should be praised for their response, especially early on.
But White House personnel had national security information about the coming pandemic in January - either the President didn't see it (he is known for not paying much attention to the Daily Briefings and other intelligence that he doesn't come up with himself) or he chose to ignore it.
Other politicians - blue and red - probably ignored the information, too. But this is the President - the leader of the country - the one person in the country who has the most, and the most recent, information available - who should have been directing his administration by the end of January to make sure that as much as possible, those advising him understood the situation and reported back to him with recommendations.
That didn't happen. |

So you are ok with giving health authorities warrantless access to CCTV footage and the geolocation data from new patients’ phones? We (in the US) have a bill of rights, the federal government cannot do this because of the tenth amendment. It is up to each state to institute this.

They did stop it in its tracks. They also have some different policies that would be hard pressed to pass in the US. Below is from an article about a church that was visited by an older lady that was later found to be infected.
But just as South Korea appeared to be descending into catastrophe, the country stopped the virus in its tracks. The government demanded that the Shincheonji Church turn over its full membership list, through which the Ministry of Health identified thousands of worshippers. All were ordered to self-isolate. Within days, thousands of people in Daegu were tested for the virus. Individuals with the most serious cases were sent to hospitals, while those with milder cases checked into isolation units at converted corporate training facilities. The government used a combination of interviews and cellphone surveillance to track down the recent contacts of new patients and ordered those contacts to self-isolate as well.
The cell surveillance, and the "milder cases checked into isolation units" are two aspects that I'm not sure the US will ever agree to. It doesn't mean that there aren't better says of handling it, but the SK model is likely not feasible. |

But that is what makes the US different than almost every other country on this planet, we have inalienable rights, you want to have health workers and government track your every move, put it up for a constitutional amendment. Contact tracing worked in South Korea, not so much in other countries that track peoples movements (not that Apple, Facebook, and Google don't do that already).

What the heck does this mean? As I stated before, there are certainly better ways to deal with this that what has been done so far. The US was not set up the same way as SK, so their method could not be implemented. That is not to say other avenues couldn't or shouldn't have been used.
Cell tracking is not an easy sell to the American people. Isolation outside the home, which some (not myself) could consider imprisonment, would not be an easy sell either. America is unique in several of the freedoms that are allowed (right, wrong, or otherwise). Asking people to give up some of those freedoms is not trivial. |

It is fun looking into the blue state fishbowl and seeing what all the fish are saying and doing. The rest of us enjoy the entertainment. #stockholmsyndrome.

Keep hiding under your beds, anyone else pick up on the same formula they dupe the sheep into believing in Global warming is the same fear factor formula used in this nonsense?

I never said it couldn't be handled any better, of course it could, but to blame it all on Trump and absolving others in government (including Dr.'s Fauci and Birx) from not making mistakes, then you just only care about finding fault with anything Trump does. How many deaths are you willing to pin on Cuomo for his nursing home debacle?, or was that Trump's fault also?

Who would you pair him with to be the most productive? I want to believe that ADB, Dach, Kane would be a good line, but I just see them getting pinned in their own end for long stretches. Kind of like when they were with Strome, but not quite as bad. - Chunk
I would roll with these forward lines:
Saad - Toews - Kubalik
Nylander - Dach - Kane
DeBrincat - Strome - Carpenter
Hagel - Kampf - Highmore
Unfortunately, Caggiula and Shaw are out as far as I know hence the need to insert youngsters in the bottom 6 so I went with Hagel.
Would love Shaw on that 3rd line if medically cleared. But if Caggiula is ready to go, have him play there then move Carpenter down to 4th line and sit Hagel.
However, to the chagrin of many on these boards, I would also consider Sikura over Hagel.
Sikura would at least be amongst the Black Ace candidates up front with Quenneville, Fortin, Entwistle, and Kurashev. Hagel, too, of course. |
