Exactly how I view it too. The big winners during the pandemic are broadcasters. More eyes on screens. Question is, where will the content come from?

TV revenues are an excellent option if there is lots of advertising. I don't know if Ford is going to pay high advertising dollars when no one is buying a vehicle except Lefty.

When most businesses are operating at cut costs I am not going to guess how much they would be willing to spend on advertising.

This makes no sense (your example). I agree, having everything open but not some businesses isn’t fair. But then having Home Depot open (essential service) but closing all the dine-in restaurants also wasn’t fair.

Sport relies heavily on crowds. Crowds are dangerous. That’s a business risk. As I said to Chompers, I believe the NHL could make a play with no fans scenario work in the short term (one season or so) without any teams folding. The example in European football I think sets a president that it’s possible. Sure, it means players won’t collect 100% of their salaries, but none of them will lose their job. They guys that could lose jobs are the ones who may not get another contract because there will be younger/cheaper players available, but that happens every year anyway.

I have been watching the German league and I think a big difference is the size of Germany is about the size of the state of Montana . No need for airplane rides and hotels. They usually play once a week maybe twice and can take a bus to the games and return after if they choose.

Many of the teams also own their arenas. I agree, it will be tough, but this nonsense about being able to survive a lockout but not the 12 games and playoffs of this season is beyond stupid. Lots of things they can do next year to reduce costs. Scrap inter conference play, back to back games in the same city, shorter season.

UK took a 97% plunge and recorded 4300 new car sales. since lock down.

As more and more sectors of the economy get back online companies will start to heal. Travel could be the last industry to recover, but people will travel again. I was supposed to be going to Chile/Argentina in the fall

I don't know if there is stipulations to the broadcasting revenues for this year so it would be a guess.

I don't think they could have a draft order or a conclusion to this year without doing what they intend to do. I think with what they are proposing it will at least tie up some unsolved answers .

I am not as positive . I see a long recovery. I think a lot of industries will look at how they did things before and find different ways to operate. I can see the Auto and Travel industry taking a big hit and also the food and entertainment industry taking a big hit.

I don't think there will be as many jobs on the other side and as many as a 25% job loss.

If Quinn Hughes is only the 3rd defenceman in 80 years to lead rookies in scoring joining Brian Leetch and Bobby Orr, and they both won the Calder...I think you see where I am going with this. #Canucks

According to Phoenix Coyotes bankruptcy filing they made as much money from broadcast and NHL profit sharing as they did from ticket and merch sales.

I think the broadcast money is more important and more reliable for teams than ticket sales, especially in the US.

Everyone has already been paid. There are no more salaries to pay. The owners are not shelling out salaries except to their managers and team staff that still have jobs. They have had draft orders when there were lockouts, this is no different. Just make a decision, not everyone will like it but tough poop.

League shuts down in March , then no playoffs then no restart next season .
