I have family in high ranks of the BPD. I’m an obvious supporter of law enforcement
One is a Captain in BPD other a lieutenant.
Both were also overseas in Iraq and have a ton of combat training.
They’ve been cops for over a decade. 0 incidents. And one of them has been in a ton of situations
He tackled a guy who had a gun running from him. Could’ve just shot and killed him and got away with it - sbroads24
This is what I thought all cops are |

Number of people shot to death by the police in the United States from 2017 to 2020, by race
2017 2018 2019 2020*
White 457 399 370 42
Black 223 209 235 31
Hispanic 179 148 158 13
Other 44 36 39 3
Unknown 84 204 202 139
For Gerbe who lives in a fantasy land and gets easily manipulated by the media.
Almost double the number of white people killed by cops over blacks. Despite blacks committing the majority of VIOLENT crime each year. Also on the FBI website - Alex the Great
First, what’s the “unknown” ?
That seems pretty sketchy
Second, there’s WAY more white ppl than black
So no poop there’s more white ppl killed
*maybe, I’d like to know more about the “unknowns”
*I’m willing to bet a very large % of that “unknown” category is ppl of color
*the “unknowns” make up over 60% of the deaths this year
US Population Breakdown 2019
76.5% white
13.8% African American
That’s roughly 5.5 white ppl for every 1 black person
https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US
Yet going by your figures for every 6 white deaths by cops there’s 4 black deaths by cops in 2019
In 2020 so far, the ratio is even worse

I think the unknown comes from victims not stating ethnicity on their identification, which is not required. |

Those numbers take no factors into consideration. How many are justified killings (almost all of them). Crime rates per population. What were situations and crimes being committed while killed. What were race of police officers?
Numbers spewed out just to cause division. |

Here's an academic study that shows risk of being killed broken down by race. If you want to attribute that to violent crime percentage, i can understand that argument to some degree. But that doesn't factor in the underlying economic disparity that leads to violence. These issues are inextricably linked. Poverty, race, violence and incarceration. Thats the point I was trying to articulate to Homie.
There's broad anger about inequality in this country. This issue is a symptom of that anger - jcragcrumple
Not to mention this latest example of another person of color killed & his supposed crime had nothing to do with being a “violent” one
There’s example after example after example

When you factor in justified killings, race by officers (minority officers are far more likely to shoot minorities, same for whites/whites) and crimes being committed while killed, unjustified deaths are in the single digits. So no, his argument would look quite better |

A new Washington Post analysis shows that in almost all fatal police shootings, police are totally justified. The report analyzed 800 fatal police shootings.
“But only a small number of the shootings — roughly 5 percent — occurred under the kind of circumstances that raise doubt and draw public outcry, according to an analysis by The Washington Post. The vast majority of individuals shot and killed by police officers were… armed with guns and killed after attacking police officers or civilians or making other direct threats.”
Only 5 percent raise doubt and concern, which does not mean the officers did anything wrong. Of those that raise doubt, police are almost never found guilty of any wrongdoing. Critics will say it’s because the system gives them special treatment, but it is still a telling data point.
In 74 percent of fatal police shootings, police pulled the trigger only after the other person fired, brandished their gun, or attacked someone, the Post analysis points out.
An additional 16 percent occurred when a person was acting in a dangerous and threatening manner, such as refusing to put down a knife.
As for the 5 percent of cases that cause doubt, police reported that the person refused to follow orders and did something like make a sudden movement. In some cases, police said they accidentally shot the person.
“My supposition is that the Post set out to prove how trigger happy police were and now they’re stuck with this result that by and large police are responding to an imminent threat and are taking appropriate action,” Ron Hosko, former assistant director of the FBI and president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

My mother was a hair dresser and worked as a processor.
I was 6 and my brother was just over a year old.
She did all she could. It was an impossible situation.
She too did a bang up job, but we had to play baseball in a league that paid for everything by selling candy bars.
We couldn't afford much more than the most reasonably priced clothing etc.
I am white. It happens to more than just ethnic communities sir. - kingcong39

99.99% of calls are handled like this by officers all around the country. Then one does something bad after hundreds of millions of calls and all of a sudden police are murderers and are all untrained 🙄🙄 - Fattony1187
Do you think a civilian or a police officer is more likely to "shoot to kill"?

Couldn’t imagine what would be higher. Would have to see stats. No police officer in America is trained to shoot to kill. I don’t think there are many shootings/killings of people breaking into houses and getting shot. It happens but not at huge numbers. |

And that 13.8% of the population is responsible for the killing of 43% of the police officers that were killed.
Violent crime arrests = 37.4%
Robbery = 54.2%
Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter = 53.3 (8 times higher than non-Hispanic whites) |

You know the inner workings of “the system” presumably
Do u deny that it’s set up in the Cops’ favor?
I mean, if a Cop kills someone, and that person isn’t around to testify, and there’s no witnesses, well then I’d think they’re just gonna take the Cop’s word as to what happened
And obviously the Cop isn’t going to say he was wrong
And isn’t their a code that exists where u have your fellow officers’ backs, even when something “questionable” happens?
Call me cynical for thinking that,
but i just watched a video where 3 guys stood around watching a fellow officer kill someone
Am i off base about “the code” u have with your brothers in blue?
Bc i think the general perception is that someone would really have to (frank) up badly for a cop to “rat” on another
That’s why there’s a lack of trust that justice gets done in these situations
What if this happened in an alley with no witnesses recording it?
Do those 3 turn the other guy in?
Or do they just say he was resisting & the appropriate amount of force was used so that it ends up being “justified”?
And I’m asking all this sincerely,
Bc i think what I’m saying is the general perception out there
And of course i realize that not all cops are bad
I’m not by any means saying anything like that |
