What’s the “problem at hand?” No one is sticking up for that guy. He was arrested and charged with Murder! Just like anyone else who would commit a murder - Fattony1187
That things like this keep happening
And it’s not just killing
The amount of racial inequality in the justice system is staggering |

Funny that fitz is " hiding in his basement", when your orange leader is hiding in a dark bunker when sh!t went down.

You just said you need guns protect you if you guys had elite training you be able to take down a normal person with a knife instead of killing them - gerbe75pts
Omg gerbe, you can be trained all you want but you don't know if the guy with the knife is trained or how they will act or anything
There are very few bad cops but those get all the attention and in most of those cases they shouldn't have had a uniform but there are also times where they did what they did to protect others or their own lives. Even trained shooters would find it difficult to hit a moving target in the knee to stop them when things are moving quickly as they don't have time to aim at a very small area which is why they go for center mass
Yes the cop murdered George Floyd and shouldn't have been a cop and he will face the consequences and no one is on his side
The vast majority of cops are very good people who are not racist and help the community and don't think omg I'm going to kill someone today because that's not the case |

Couldn’t imagine what would be higher. Would have to see stats. No police officer in America is trained to shoot to kill. I don’t think there are many shootings/killings of people breaking into houses and getting shot. It happens but not at huge numbers. - Fattony1187
That's what I thought? Officers are not trained to kill.
What happened the other day is terrible. It makes all law enforcement more vulnerable.

What’s the “problem at hand?” No one is sticking up for that guy. He was arrested and charged with Murder! Just like anyone else who would commit a murder - Fattony1187
As I understand it this is the best reason for the frustration and protests. The true bad guy WASNT arrested and charged just like anyone else.
If it was just like anyone else - many people believe - he would have been arrested and charged ON THE SPOT, and the other guys with him would have been as well.
That video - and the others discovered since - is all the probable cause any normal civilian would get before an arrest, but it took days (and protests) before the actively bad guy was charged, and the passively bad guys still aren’t.
My problem is not that cops are inherently thugs - overwhelmingly they are not. But in our everyday lives, in lots and lots of little ways, being ON THE JOB (even when you’re not on duty) means a cop believes they’re entitled to be treated differently than regular civilians, and indeed they are.
That different standard - civilians are all held to full compliance with the law, while cops get to skirt it because of the uniform - is fair grounds for criticism and complaint.
Now I’ll crawl back under my rock. |

Another innocent person of color is killed unnecessarily,
and too many ppl are focused on looting & actions by a FEW instead of the problem at hand which has been going on for far too long - jdfitz77
i do not condone what the cop did and really don't have a side here.. But i have to ask does rioting, looting and burning things down help the perception of their community? If anything their recent actions most likely only fuel the fire of the actual racists in this country. I am not going to ever say that being a racist is acceptable, however the actions currently being taken do not help in the broad view. They need another figure like MLK to emerge and take over these protests. |

Well some good news, only 20,000 new cases of Corona in the last 24 hours. Let's see what it is by the end of the week. Good thing it doesn't affect minorities worse or anything. Back to phase 1 by the weekend or total social distancing again? |

You know the inner workings of “the system” presumably
Do u deny that it’s set up in the Cops’ favor?
I mean, if a Cop kills someone, and that person isn’t around to testify, and there’s no witnesses, well then I’d think they’re just gonna take the Cop’s word as to what happened
And obviously the Cop isn’t going to say he was wrong
And isn’t their a code that exists where u have your fellow officers’ backs, even when something “questionable” happens?
Call me cynical for thinking that,
but i just watched a video where 3 guys stood around watching a fellow officer kill someone
Am i off base about “the code” u have with your brothers in blue?
Bc i think the general perception is that someone would really have to (frank) up badly for a cop to “rat” on another
That’s why there’s a lack of trust that justice gets done in these situations
What if this happened in an alley with no witnesses recording it?
Do those 3 turn the other guy in?
Or do they just say he was resisting & the appropriate amount of force was used so that it ends up being “justified”?
And I’m asking all this sincerely,
Bc i think what I’m saying is the general perception out there
And of course i realize that not all cops are bad
I’m not by any means saying anything like that - jdfitz77
Don’t think you were saying that. You seem
Like a genuine good dude, we spar on your bad hockey takes and politics once in a while but that is enjoyment and venting for most posters.
I have posted on here that I would meet anyone for coffee who was interested in hearing about police tactics, questions I could answer etc... I’m all about community relations
Is there a specific code? No. Is there co workers that might help friends and lie for them? I’m sure that does happen. Human nature. Happens at other jobs too.
Can a police officer lie about what happened in a shooting? Again, sure. It’s his credibility and career he is damaging. A lot of agencies have body cameras now which would prevent that. The same case could happen to a civilian who shoots someone dead with no witnesses. Obviously worse for a police officer.
The numbers do say that unjustified shootings are rare. It is not widespread. In fact since 1960s police shootings of minorities are DOWN 75%.
Does not excuse a bad cop though. Trust me, we hate them more then you and are cheering this guy getting fired. Look what one bad guy does for a profession.

Cops should get elite training then they should be able to protect us without guns and should be able to shoot someone in a certain spot so they are disarmed ..
Would they not save lives having more training then just shoot to kill?

No need to crawl under a rock Kaiser. That is an excellent point you brought up. It is something that is easier explained verbally over text.
But a quick response would be you can’t look at the situation the same as a civilian and a police officer in performance of his duty in the same scope. Police officers need to be allowed to use force for obvious reasons. In this case this scumbag cop used way too much and deserves a murder sentence. Prosecutors were using their time to make sure they had the right charge.
What reason would a civilian do this to a person? That case probably would be more cut and dry over a police officer using force. The intent would be easier to prove. You overcharge cop he walks. You undercharge it looks horrible. That is all. To say “while it I did it I would be arrested right away” is a flawed argument, but I can see how people don’t understand.
Deadly Use of force calls take time to investigate. Same with civilian self defense cases. Took 44 days for George Zimmerman to be arrested . This arrest was done in 3 days. Day 1 DA said they were investigating and were on top of it. People are so used to instant gratification we fail to see sometimes it’s worth waiting to get it right |

Departments have policies. I would imagine if a cop intentionally blocked his body cam to commit a crime he would be in trouble. Would be fired in my department then be culpable for the crime |

The issue i have with your post is that you’re focused on the actions of a few
The overwhelming majority of protesters did it the right way
I don’t think the rioting is the right way about it
But the peaceful protests obviously haven’t brought about the change needed either
Kaepernick was 4 years ago...
still the same things happening way too much
I’m sure if there was a solution that would inspire real change, then the overwhelming majority would be for it
Maybe fattony can speak to what changes have been made in the last 4yrs and why they seemingly haven’t worked yet?
And what more could be done to help? |
