*generally old white men vote more than other demographics? They voted old and white with both dem nominations. I actually liked pete.

I voted for both Bush's and I voted for Obama twice. There was no way in hell I was voting for Hillary. I think the people are sick of lifetime politicians becoming millionaires under the tax payers dollars and not doing anything for the country. Obama did fine, but didn't really do anything to move the country forward, and in many ways set it back.
I wasn't big on Pete and didn't really think he would have been a good candidate, but 100% would have voted for Tulsi. She actually had some good ideas and real life experiences, but she wasn't left enough for the dems. She would be an excellent VP candidate. Much better than the names I see being thrown out there.
Nobody thinks Trump is some great person, but we really haven't been given any better options.
Well he did go to Yale where he got his (BA) and then Harvard where he got his (MBA). Most President's have either gone to Yale or Harvard or very good College's doesn't make them good Presidents. - Buff36
I'd rather the guy that went to JC for two years, got a BS from a state school and then went to a Harvard or Yale.
Obama worked his way through adversities to become a very accomplished person, and Clinton came from nothing, but how many others come from wealth and are groomed from birth to lead a certain lifestyle?
I'm looking forward to Crenshaw '24. Crenshaw/ Gabbard sounds really good.

You know what most Candidates talk a big game, and some probably would do this Country good. But even if he wins he gets (frank)ed because none of the parties can come together. Who ever wins the other party tries to bend him over and the only way things get done most times is with backdoor concessions.

I don't care where they come from, it won't matter until the Parties can work together and for the good of the people instead of who gives them the most money.

exactly. it's a non issue for the informed public.

And that won't happen until they have have term limits.

Lost in all of this conversation: where is the Corona Fear Porn brigade renting its garments, wailing and gnashing its teeth because tens of thousands of protesters are marching shoulder-to-shoulder like they did when people were congregating on the beaches last week? - buffalofan19
I've seen multiple YT videos and articles about it, maybe you're not looking hard enough?

Between Election Day and Inauguration Day in '08 our economy almost collapsed entirely and Bush 2's administration basically walked away.
It was actually Tim Geithner who came up with the plan, but the ballout kept the economy alive (the federal government actually had a huge return on its investment in the automobile bailout).
THIS ON ITS OWN IS A HUGE POSITIVE ACCOMPLISHMENT.
Also: Obamacare isn't working but neither is the model based on employer provided insurance. Models closer to Obamacare work pretty well in Western Europe. Obamacare as passed was not the plan Obama wanted to implement. He was willing to take the first piece and try for more later.
The man's administration was free from corruption or personal scandal. Many people didn't like the Fast and Furious policy, but its wasn't corrupt or scandalous.

No bailout is an accomplishment, it completely disrupts capitalism and horrible decisions made by the business. But since you have that view then you must view the most recent bailouts of almost every business sector in America as a MASSIVE POSITIVE ACCOMPLISHMENT. Obamacare (surprised you called it that because people are very quick to correct to ACA since it was a disaster and they don’t want Obama’s name attached to it anymore) was and is unconstitutional and was a complete lie to us. It’s also exhausting when people compare Europe’s healthcare to ours when they have a quarter of our population. Why people want our government running our healthcare is beyond mind boggling.
Nothing to be sorry about, my thoughts are no President will be able to do the things he really wants because the other parties won't allow it because they are to busy trying to screw them because they lost out, and are not thinking about what's good for the Country.

So much ignorance in this thread. Cops make 30-50 grand to start and you want them trained as ninjas? They do train in firearms and defensive tactics their whole career. Just because Biden and some of y'all don't think a knife is a weapon doesn't mean it isn't. You shoot to stop the threat. Guy goes down, stop shooting. He drops his weapon, stop shooting. We're trained in this so much that it becomes muscle memory. I would love to see one of you try shooting the moving leg of someone running at you to kill you. It's ridiculous to even consider. My advice for you all is to arm yourselves, fortify your homes, and don't become a victim. There's plenty of evil out there who do plenty of bad things. - Khmylev
JFC, thank you. I doubt it will do any good though, I tried last night. And even aiming center mass cops have about 35-50% accuracy under ideal circumstances, no return fire, inside of 7 yards. Shooting at a human is a hell of a lot different than shooting a paper target. Part of it is a failure of training, at least as of a few years ago when I did the majority of reading on the subject, it may be different now, and it may be different in different jurisdictions. Cops were being trained to use their sights, but in actual situations they look at their target, not their sights, so accuracy degrades a lot. And just having adrenaline pumping through you is enough to (frank) with you. Plus it's not like gunfights are a daily, or even a monthly thing. In all of 2017 the entire NYPD fired 170 times scoring 75 hits.

Yeah, if you hear or see something bad, you unfortunately have to go and find what was actually said or done. So many instances of things either taken out of context or only having half the story.
Newspapers can print something wrong in a big article and then bury the retraction in some corner in small print that half the readers will never see.
Denzel Washington said (back in December I believe) that it's no longer about getting the story right, it's about reporting the story first (paraphrasing from memory). - adambuffalo
It's always been that way, unfortunately, it just got supercharged with the advent of internet news.
Baudelaire had an obit published about him after he had a massive stroke in 1866 in Paris, he died a year later.
The one every hockey fan knows about is Pat Burns.

yes. I see it as a good thing when the government intervenes to prevent societal collapse due to the shortcomings of capitalism. One of those shortcomings comes from capitalism's promotion of the efficiencies of division of labor and specialization. If everybody gets really really good at one thing, they will be able to produce that one thing more cheaply than somebody who is a jack of all trades. Then, we can all trade among ourselves for the specialized cheaper items, but we come to be dependent on one another. Where one of those specialists who produces an essential item fails, somebody will come in to replace him, in the long run. But of course, in the long run we're all dead.
I know there are a few proudly rugged individualists who wouldn't mind returning to a frontier economy of the mid-19th century, where every family is a jack of all trades responsible to acquire, grow or make all of the necessaries of life without relying on the other segments of society, but I don't want that, and I'm sure more than 99% of the rest of the country is with me.

The entire system was teetering on a total and complete collapse. Essentially, ATM's would have stopped supplying money.
Also?
Early estimates for the total cost of the bailout to the government were as much as $700 billion, however TARP recovered funds totalling $441.7 billion from $426.4 billion invested, earning a $15.3 billion profit or an annualized rate of return of 0.6% and perhaps a loss when adjusted for inflation.
5 day nationally televised funeral for George Floyd covering 3 states next week. How does this help this powder keg of a situation? At what point will these communities and families realize they are being used for political propaganda. Everyone is at wits end trying to find a peaceful way to end this and find progress for the future, and they want violence and destruction, that’s all that will come from that stunt.

The president does not have the authority to overrule the secret service in the USA.
Fact. - TheHank
It's a very gray area. He can just fire everyone if they don't do what he wants. Yes, they have the mandate to protect him, and, essentially, he can't refuse protection, but he can dictate what he wants to do and they have to adapt. They have one job, to protect him. If the secret service had it their way, he'd never leave the bunker, but that's obviously not feasible.
