When Scandella was on the team, Miller was in the press box, and often.

You're new here though. The real question is why Bogosian got any ice time, or why Ristolainen and Montour were a pair so often down the stretch when they were awful on the ice together.

Did I mention the games when they had Montour playing forward? (I'm serious)

Hes not new here. He's an oilers regular.

It's gotten so bad again that even oilers fans are coming for a victory lap

He's new to the Sabres vintage aroma, circa 2019-2020.

He needs a full understanding of the depth and range of the stank.

Ok. Georgiev and a first for Eichel. Rangers fans think this would even be a thought by anyone not on heavy medication. Let that poster come forward and accept the award.
Wasn’t too long ago I said try Dahlin as a Center when the teams future looked as high as playing handball off the curb and many posters thought that was the worst idea and post of all time.
Now this. Give me a break. That my friends would be the winner by a mile.

Because he's good? You're assessment of Miller lacks context. Early in the season he got usage that he wasn't use to and by extension couldn't handle. Neither could his 19 year old defensive partner.

It's not a coincidence that since the new year Miller leads all Sabres D in XG%

- Michael Ghofrani

His time alongside Dahlin, you mean? Was that all early season or was it spread throughout the season? Because when they were together (355 mins), they seem to have gotten a lot of cushy starts (60% o-zone push; averaged only 22.5% TOI Vs top opposition) while seemingly doing okay. Their 13-12 GD isn't great for an offensive push pairing, but it isn't negative.

The rest of his time where he was away from his 19-year old partner saw him track a 34.38% GF (11-21). In a role he's supposedly comfortable in? Sure, his xGF is all fine and dandy but, given his softened deployment, he should be posting that.

What was his xGF and GF post-New Year? I don't know where to find those kinds of numbers in custom date ranges.

As he should be in my estimation But that's what I'm here to clarify so I'm glad to hear your perspectives on the matter.

As for the Montour/Risto thing, I mean, they managed to post surprisingly strong goal shares numbers (18-10) despite their horrendous flow of play numbers, so I imagine it was a "running the hot hand" kind of thing? Knowing Kreuger, that seems like a reasonable bet.

In the top pair role, it was early season. Then he got the press box treatment for a while and saw sort of a rotation (but not really) kind of role, where he saw a little bit of everyone.

When Dahlin came back from his concussion, he got time with Miller again but this time in away from the opposing teams top line.

XG% of 52.72 from Jan 1 to last game of the season. You can find custom date ranges on natural stat trick if you click the "[+]" at the top of the search.

He's definitely not anywhere near a top pair guy, but he's good value at under 4 mil as your #4

Victory lap, my ass I had a genuine question on the reasoning behind certain player personnel decisions to try to help establish whether I think the "FIRE BOTTS" crowd is justified.

Man, I've been through your pain and may well still have some around the corner (the scars run too deep to "trust the process" anymore). No way I'm gonna try to rub that in.

eichel needs to settle. its hard to win. its hard to win the cup just ask joe thornton, adam oates, eric lindros and on and on. Yzerman didnt win the cup until he was in his 30s and he won 3. hes 24, sabres can turn this around before hes in his prime.

Miller sucks, Scandella sucks. Miller sucks more in the defensive zone, Scandella sucks more in the offensive zone.

The big key with Risto is getting his minutes down, which Krueger actually accomplished. He's high-end 2nd pairing minutes(36th among D-men) instead of high-end 1st pairing(4th and 9th in 17-18, and 18-19 respectively).

Eichel wants out, and it will be made public soon, not like what came out today. Pegula will be stepping away and Kim will be the face of the Sabres and Bills. The internal frustration and finger pointing started a month or so ago with how Pegula handled paying employees. People thought it was bad under Darcy, just wait and see what's coming soon.

Botterill staying, like I said before............... another show of how the Pegula's aren't very knowledgeable in certain area's regarding the future and the operation of this organization. Botterill can't shake the " Pittsburgh mentality" I was told and that is killing him in moving this organization forward.

He also threw the series against the Pens right before he was traded and he said he'd veto any trade that wasn't to his liking, so we got (frank)ing garbage in return for one of the best goalies, ever.

The only way I see Dahlin, and Dahlin's agent, being ok signing any kind of long term deal is if it's a massive deal.

Otherwise, it'll be a strong raise and shorter term, IMO.

- kingcong39

That makes sense
But if he signs a bridge deal, then that just gives us extra years of the Cap going up

Let's switch to problem solving mode.

Trade him to the Devils for all three of their first round picks this year and Nico Hischier; or

Trade him to Ottawa for all three of their first round picks and Chris Tierney.

If you were him, or especially his agent, why sign a long term deal at any point in the next half decade or more unless it's a disgusting overpayment?

(frank) me! How did I never see that Thanks!

As for the bolded, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to firmly disagree. I think framing a soft-deployment guy like him as a #4 is wrong- especially since was 5th in EV TOI/gm and 6th in overall TOI/gm. I'm unconvinced by a guy who only has success in a limited niche and, even then, underperformed in that niche, This is only made worse when he's paid almost 4mil. He's a lesser Matt Benning and we pay him under 2mil.

However, I realize this is often a matter that won't be resolved by hammering away forever. We value different measures of efficacy and that's alright. Thanks for your insight on the matter!
