So someone I know works for a store in Elmwood Village. Not only have they been decimated over the last 3 months due to closure but are now being ganged up on on social media because they haven't posted any "support" for the protesting/riots/looting that is going on. I told them to fight back and expose those who think their views should be everyone's views, but they will end up just giving in and posting something that appeases these lunatics. They donated countless dollars to the Elmwood community and are always involved in improving the area, but that is not good enough for these left wing extremists.

I was talking about this research article I posted a couple pages back.

https://www.pnas.org/content/116/34/16793

From the article:

"We use these imputed data to construct multilevel Bayesian count models of mortality risk that allow us to directly estimate uncertainty driven by small annual age–race–sex-specific death counts for some groups, by variation in underlying risk over the 6 y of FE data, and by missing data. Intervals reported in the text are drawn from model posterior predictive distributions.

Because we lack sufficient data to track a birth cohort over the life course, we rely on synthetic cohorts to estimate lifetime risk (31). Period life tables allow us to estimate deaths over the life course within a compressed period by tracking age-specific mortality risk over hypothetical cohorts in each subgroup with the key assumption that underlying age-specific mortality risks remain constant at observed levels throughout the life course. All risk estimates presented in this paper can be interpreted as estimates of age-specific or cumulative lifetime risk at 2013 to 2018 police use-of-force mortality rates and 2017 total mortality rates. "

So we have some really nice guesses by two, rather obviously, biased researchers. I'll stick with the simple and undeniable: people who commit violent crimes have more encounters with police. People who are raised to hate and fear the police treat the police like garbage and, in turn, encounter more adrenaline-based responses from the police. On a national statistical basis there simply is no evidence to claim police are more violent towards black people than anyone else.

"Police officials later said Pederson had an alibi and that his whereabouts checked out for the time the incident occurred.

“We are aware of the social media post that erroneously identifies one of our officers as the person caught on video breaking windows in Minneapolis. We want to be perfectly clear about this: The person in the video is not our officer," the statement read."

It seems like you're making 2 competing arguments -

1.) It's not happening

2.) If it is happening, they deserve it

I'll simply reiterate what I said before. I think crime and law inforcement response are a result of disproportionate economic inequality in the African American community that goes back a long way. The other possible reasons, if you choose not to believe that this is a manifestation of poverty - is that black people are lazy and/or more violent than others. That to me is ridiculous and racist on its face. We are one species.

I also don't think most cops are bad people. I think police are an obvious symbol of the system, a system which really doesn't work well for some groups. To that extent, I feel very bad for the good ones - and there are plenty.

All of this is going to keep cropping up unless we address the underlying conditions. I have no idea what the solution is. But thats the problem as I see it.

Every proposed solution is going to ethically, socially or financially upset a group of people.

Number of people shot to death by the police in the United States from 2017 to 2020, by race

2017 2018 2019 2020*
White 457 399 370 42
Black 223 209 235 31
Hispanic 179 148 158 13
Other 44 36 39 3
Unknown 84 204 202 139

For Gerbe who lives in a fantasy land and gets easily manipulated by the media.

Almost double the number of white people killed by cops over blacks. Despite blacks committing the majority of VIOLENT crime each year. Also on the FBI website

Yet, as usual, the numbers are there to fill a certain point of view.

There are 6 times as many white people in the country as there are blacks.

Do the math.

you can't have a real conversation with someone, when you post the real numbers and their response is

"You're so full of sh!t, it's not even funny."

at that point it's time to grab a bottle of tequila, fire up the blender and talk about the sabres playoff games next month

I thank you for being there for us in order to protect everyone. I CANNOT imagine the fear(?) that you experience every day when you do not know when and where something will happen. I strongly believe that you wake up every day to protect and serve and not to cause harm.

I have been promoting an idea that our societal infrastructure is broken. We need everyone to dig in and change society. I do not have the answers but I am trying to help.

Our media portrays everything in a black and white perspective. Our total media supports and expands all their self-serving narratives as they see fit. They are not a service. They are a business. Business is better when there is doom and gloom report.

Looting and rioting - BAD. Do not care why you are doing it.
Civil disobedience - GOOD.

BAD people should be removed. Regardless of job, race, religion.

- TC4145

THANK YOU! People need more of this perspective -- they are a business! You are the product!

It is hardly much better, but CapFriendly shows them as the 5th highest cap hit, behind:

1. Toronto $95M
2. Arizona $85M
3. Vancouver $83.7M
4. St. Louis $83.2M
5. Buffalo $82.8M
