That’s a hefty leap

Go back to the Baltimore riots of a few years ago, the one where the Orioles had to play in front of an empty stadium because the riots were too close. Studies by Harvard and Michigan State showed police stood down, patrolled a lot less, and their overall presence was minimized because their standard procedures were temporarily tightened. The rate of violent crime went up. It's not a leap. It's common sense.

no way am I missing the point

when the story is flipped

A. it's not on the news
B. white people are not out rioting and looting

pretty simple, most of these looting and violent acts have happened after the sunset with curfews in place

yet they still exist

the bigger issue is these mayors and governors need to go find their balls

protest during daylight hours only and enforce the curfews set in place when the sunsets and problems go down 99%

- homiedclown

Flint, Michigan & N.Falls handled the protests great
Why didn’t more police departments do that?

And yeah...
when your ONLY focus is on the looting,
you are absolutely missing the point

Has absolutely nothing to do with them getting more training = more violent crime

That’s nonsense

so 1 criminal wrongly gets killed and we are allowed destroy cities, countless businesses, and kill cops in public?

and the worst part is all those that said we had to stay home and social distance on the virus are the same people that are defending the hours and hours of mass protests that is leading to this after ordered curfews

For one, human life > property
Two, one is the result of the other in this case
Three, the racial component to one & not the other

- jdfitz77

Still not convinced there was racial motivation in this case. Perhaps there was, but the two guys knowing each other for 17 years leads me to believe that there is a much bigger story behind what happened.
Secondly, the 3 other cops there were all minorities.
Lastly, an unarmed white person has a higher probability of being killed by a cop than a black person.

I think there needs to be a better process in hiring police officers. Perhaps an Army vet that has seen multiple tours in Afghanistan may not have the right mentality to serve in a civilian environment (maybe something like SWAT, but not everyday patrol). I'm sure they do have drug testing, but coke is a drug that is out of the system very quickly. Do they even test for performance enhancing drugs/ steroids?
Maybe they need more time off for R and R to wind down? Higher pay so they don't have to rely on overtime or moonlighting? Less union involvement?
I don't have the answer and I'm sure that there is no one answer. There is no quick fix either. It should be noted that the number of people being killed by cops is down significantly from what it was the past decades.

Training and violent crime don't go hand in hand. More training isn't gonna stop crime, that is just how some people are built. More training is a good thing, but that isn't gonna stop people from committing crimes.

the cop was wrong, I said that many times, so has pretty much everyone else

this does not give people a right to kill cops, destroy businesses

even if it's a peaceful protest, once curfew is in effect, go home and obey the local law

it's pretty simple, yet nobody wants to talk about it

the solution, allow peaceful protests from sun up until sun down, then when the crazies are out, enforce the curfew

our country would then come together instead of staying divided

You mean, even though it takes a couple hours to clear the streets, DeBlasio's 11PM curfew wasn't smart?
Maybe he wanted to make sure his daughter had enough time to get home.

Did I just hear Poloncarz just put a curfew on Buffalo, Lackawanna, Amherst, Cheektowaga, and Tonawanda only?

He does realize the looters will just go to where there is no curfew?

That idiot is going to get people killed and a lot of them.........

It doesn’t happen over and over though fitz. People are saying Floyd is Gardner 2.0.

Gardner was 6 years ago and over TWO BILLION calls for service later. Do you know how statistically rare that is??? Yes there have been a few others during that time. They all get huge media coverage making it seem widespread when it is such a low amount of calls. The reason the media (a business) does?? Look how riled up it got this country.

Hold police accountable. Fire them. Cops themselves want that. Liberal administrators, politicians and unions don’t allow that to happen. The same groups people on here love to support.

We do receive more training, including cultural diversity classes. The numbers of minorities killed are DOWN. Dramatically. it is not wide spread. The media is lying to you and laughing to the bank.

- Fattony1187

These things do happen WAY too much sir
And it seems often times they aren’t held responsible

I also believe your 5% of shootings being questionable number is too high to be considered acceptable
Minority killing don’t seem down to me according to those FBI stats posted earlier,
they seem roughly the same

It’s the Unions’ fault?
Isn’t the union made up of Cops??
Aren’t the administrators Cops?
Am i misunderstanding what you’re saying here?
Aren’t the police the ones who “police” the police?

And the rest of my post from before that u didn’t really respond to...
valid, or no in your experience?
*this is it reposted:

And it’s not fair to compare this to other jobs
If i don’t rat on Briana for using the company copier to print flyers for her band’s gig,
it doesn’t remotely have the same weight as what we are talking about here

Maybe i watch too many movies,
but i also have a handful of friends (4) who are cops that have straight up told me they feel like cops would only “rat out” others in extreme circumstances bc of the culture that exists “in the room” so to speak, and even then they’d fear being shunned & called a rat
And 2 of them have straight up said they witnessed things they thought were questionable,
but didn’t say anything & gave their “coworker” the benefit of the doubt in the situation

From what you’re saying,
it sounds like u feel that isn’t really the case

This is the first I’ve seen someone posting potential solutions
Nice
I disagree with a lot of the first part,
but I’ll just let that go bc what I’ve been trying to get across is that the bolded part of what you said is what we should all be focusing on

All of that seems reasonable to me
Fattony, any take on the bolded?

Gerbe didn't just say more training. He wanted more training and to limit their ability to use a gun. That will absolutely lead to an increase in violent crime.

And the more training was to shoot to maim & not kill

Idk wtf you’re talking about dude

Except they don’t JFitz. The numbers do not support that. A couple times a year over a half of billion calls is not wide spread. A .00000005% of all calls police go on result in unjustified deaths. just because your emotion or thinking it happens all the time does not make it true. Eric Gardner was 6 years ago. That does not equate to widespread. There will always be instances of unlawfully use of force due to the nature of the job and situations cops and criminals are put in. No amount of training will lead to 100% accuracy.

Facts do not back up any argument that it is widespread. It is all media driven hate and fear. Until people acknowledge facts and the real numbers there cannot be a rational conversation.

Answered your second part already . If your friends are witnessing crimes and not reporting it they are criminals. And you should be telling on them. Also higher ups in police departments are politically appointed positions. All these big city killings are in democratic run cesspools.
