When that commercial was being played on tv repeatedly the hawks were playing New Jersey. After the whistle a scrum and pushing match develops with Probert and Scott Gomez ending up with a minor penalty each. On the way to the box a guy in the crowd yells real loud "HEY PROBIE, DROP THE CHALUPA". Gomez looked like he was going to piss himself laughing. |

Good stuff, TC. I'm on the win wagon. I think playoff experience is good for the young guys, but the vets also. I'm a fan, I can't root for them to lose & I can't be glad at their demise (like some people). I know people would rather have the higher pick, that's totally fine, I respect that & understand that. I think some rookies will stand out amongst the rest.
How many playoff games does Mitchell need to play to burn up a year of his contract? If he plays well, helps win, proves he belongs ... I can be fine with it, but right off bat, I'm not happy to burn a year. - I Am The Breadman
Kind of look at it as a win/win. Never root against them but if they show well and end up losing, that’s ok too.
If that is the case, then of course they win the draft lottery and draft Lafreniere as has been foretold by Raptor. |

None.
If he’s on the active roster for a single game, even if he doesn’t play, he’s burned that first year. |

Yeah, he made the prediction, I know. Only some of us have that gift. I'll see if Raptor has it. |

A friend of mine throw some broadcast numbers at me (and I might have them incorrect) that EACH and every NHL team had to be on a certain number, and the shut down basically violates the agreement that they already paid the NHL in full for broadcasting rights, and that the top end seeding of playoff spots 1-4 had to do with making sure the addition of these games and the play-in GET the games up to a certain number.
(This doesn't facilitate the dispragring seven from more games played.)
Anybody have clue what he was talking about? |

He'd have failed to a high extent to get a crack at Makar, and McAvoy, the nHL club he oversees would have to have been much worse in both years as the Blackhawks draft slots were #26 in 2017 and and #22 in 2016, and these tow were taken 4th and 14th overall... - wiz1901
Hey Wiz, You've said a few times that this draft is particularly deep. What kind of drop off is there if the Hawks move from a presumed #9 to #16-19 in the draft?
Are you still looking at the same kind of talent, but with less experience (or maybe competition level is lower), or is it a lower class of player? |

I’ll go with what was discussed yesterday. Hawks and Oil play five overtime games, the Oilers move on and Hawks move up in draft. I will always root for the Hawks to win, but this team sure could use more high end talent from this draft. |

If you listen to Edzo he says you just don't know with everyone being off. Skating is way different then training, we'll see hopefully this is something the NHL can get right |

I know the goal is to win a Cup.....or to acquire more young talent to get to the point of being Cup contenders down the road.
And....that the chances of winning a Cup THIS year are virtually ZERO.
But, when you think of it....this set-up is about as good as it could get for the Hawks other than my wish, that they ranked by Division, Hawks were one of the 7 OUT, and were in the Bottom 7 Draft Lottery.
Since that didn't happen, and we are in this "Play-in"....I don't think it could get much better than this.
Lose to Oil....9th or better pick. Sweet. it is where we would have been if all cancelled.
Beat the Oil...a bit of excitement, and if we lose Round of 16, still a 10-16 pick.
Beat the Oil...beat Rd 1...get to Final 8...screws up draft pick a bit...But, c'mon. If we somehow got to Final 8 or even further, what an exciting playoff run.
The more I think of it....win/win/win situation. All I hope is no big outbreak of the virus in the attempt to get this thing done. If it can be done safely...Let's go!!!

Hope the Hawks win. If they lose, I'll be fine with it. Hawks have not been good at shutting down top lines in recent years, so I'm not expecting much against the OIlers and I'll take the high pick. You never know what can happen though. |

I would say Hawks did ok as a team. And Toews a pretty good job of limiting McJesus! |

Not a fan of the restart ,but if the numbers support it so be it . .HAWKS have a very good chance of winning against the oilers .Is that a good thing ,not so sure . No sense going into a game thinking you will lose .Go hard play right and good things will happen .
Question Will the teams know if one or more of the 8 teams have jumped into the top 3 before or after the 1st RD. ?? Strange times . |

No No NO!
IF THEY BEAT THE OILERS, the oilers and the other SEVEN losers pick in slots 8 -15.
The hawks would selecting #16 if Montreal loses too, and if the Habs win, the Blackhawks with a win over Oilers, select #17. |

Contract says the NHL has to televise X games (may be a national number, probs not a regional number) because Y dollars were paid. According to this scenario or assumption it was paid already therefore they need to play a certain amount of "non play off" games to satisfy X.
Like number of hockey night in Canada or rivalry Wednesday or whatever other gimmick they use to promote nationally broadcast games in the US and Canada.
If there were only about 12 games left for each team over about three weeks that is somewhere between 6 and 8 nationally televised games not subject to regional blackout?
So assuming your friend is correct, they should be able to satisfy their national contract, let the teams eat the regional losses for the last dozen games and they get all of the monies for the playoffs. |

Speaking of stuff happening...
The Hawks have signed forward Matej Chalupa to an entry level deal. Chalupa (great name) is a former teammate of Dominik Kubalik. - DarthKane
Well, we know sweater #71 is available.
I love when guys like Wheeler make quotes like this "Probably more of a tweener than a surefire NHLer. Not one of the top FAs out of Europe to my knowledge.” before they egetv to play surrounded by NHL caliber players..
I dont remember what was said pre-Kubalik, but I always love where analysts are hell-bent on seting the bar on guys they recall they saw in 2017...

Agree that it's not in the DNA to root for the Hawks to lose, ever. However, all things considered, this would be the best case scenario overall, a combo of having the kids experience a grueling playoff series and also keeping a fairly high draft pick. |

So Wiz, what kind of player may we expect at 17 vs say at 9 in this draft, a 1st liner vs a 3rd liner? I also understand that these are 18 year olds and anything can happen. |
