Goal by Blair betts. Always like players like him and dowd. Betts was amazing on the pk. Can’t imagine having the shoulder issues he did. But I guess it’s better than knee or back issues. |

That goal against Boucher was horribly overplayed. Not super rare to happen, but very unfortunate timing. |

on the last blog someone asked if Kalnynuk intended on signing here or become a UFA. Isnt he a junior? why would he forgo his senior year and not sign here unless he wants a trade which I guess could be possible |

Once an NCAA player declares he's turning pro, I think the team that dtafts him has 30 days to sign him or he becomes a UFA. Although, he didn't put up staggering numbers where teams would be breaking down doors to get him. The Flyers are his best bet at getting signed.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |

I’m still wondering if the continuation of 19-20 ever happens. So now the play-in and round robin games don’t begin until August 1st at the earliest? Let’s do the math:
Round one begins no sooner than August 8th and ends no sooner than August 19th
Round 2 won’t likely end before Sept 1st
Conf. finals won’t end before Sept 14th
The SCF, even if it’s a sweep, likely doesn’t end before Sept 22 and a 7 game series could stretch to Sept 28.
So, then what, an October draft and start to FA? A 20-21 season that begins in December and runs well into July (which NBC will strongly oppose due to their Olympic coverage)?
I think we are one more delay away from the inevitable cancellation of the 19-20 season. |

its a bit convoluted but since he was drafted as a 20 year old, once he is not a "bonafide" college student, the team that owns his rights has 30 days to sign him or the player becomes a UFA. Its a little different than Allison's or Laczynski

How much will competing with the NFL and most likely NBA/MLB as well affect the decision to go on with the season? Are the TV dollars lucrative enough that it pays off for the owners even with low ratings?

I think there will be more interest in Kalynuk than you think. He was the captain of his NCAA team as a Junior and scored almost a point per game as a defenceman in a generally low scoring league. He needs work on the defensive side of the puck but is a fast skilled player which seems to be the most important these days. Teams could could get a guy who may be ready for the NHL after a short period in the AHL who is fast, skilled an could potentially be a powerplay quarterback. He may not have the highest upside, however teams with thin defensive depth would probably be very interested. And you could have a young almost NHL ready defenceman for only the cost of an ELC. |

Game one was such a heart breaker. That really would have made it such a different series winning that one. |

I personally think they should skip phase 2 and go right to phase 3 but probably too late for that. Most likely that government would prevent that somewhat. |

I’m not against their efforts to finish the season. They are going to try and re-coup some of the money lost.
Look, I will enjoy watching hockey anytime of the year and will watch it over other pro sports when there is a conflict. I look forward to some more Flyer hockey....in August. Haha

Game 1 was there for the taking.
As for the return to play, I'm excited to see hockey, but the thought of having to wait until August kills the buzz pretty quick. It is a shame they couldn't (while not skip phase 2) shorten it a little to get started before August.

I was in favor of playoffs but really, if it’s going to take this long you might as well cancel and just get the preseason underway in September as usual. |

There are no guarantees that next season won’t get interrupted too. Might as well work on finishing this season and worry about the next season later. |

What are your thoughts on signing Hogberg and Bernhardt before June 1, in conjunction with the Kalynuk situation. |
