So when this gets pointed out, the person pointing it out gets called the racist... Double standards. - kaptaan
Again going back to Twitter in the last month I have seen at least a dozen times someone saying Old White Dude in a derogatory statement. More than a couple of times it has been by a young Asian person.
Racism is everywhere. It is not a Whites Only Club.
So you would avoid the confrontation, instead of making it worse, smart - 1970vintage
Serious? Someone is trying to kill someone by throwing an explosive in their car and you are upset because a person then tries to run their attacker over?
Look, you brought in criminal behavior as the keystone reason for police involvement. All I did is point out that the police are charged with more than that. Maybe that’s not how it should be, but that’s how it is currently. I’m all for solutions, I hope that governments take a long look at how to best meet the needs of people in society. - 1970vintage
That wasn't a poop poo, it was a wow, my opinion was that organized hooligans are responsible for the violence, looting, anarchy. Same as the Wet'suwet'en protests.
I didn't think Canadians would be so (frank)ing stupid to partake in violent, looting disobedience. Seems I was wrong to think that way.
I have no sympathy or support for that type of behavior, peaceful protests yes, I support that as a process to be heard and make politicians take notice.
Question, do you think the police have the right to push back against the unruly protesters, not the peaceful protests, the looters, the people lighting cars, buildings on fire? - Makita

I don’t think we’re seeing the whole story, either way (pro-protest or pro-police). But I don’t think there is a scenario where driving your cruiser through a crowd is appropriate under any circumstances.
We have a Pit Barrel Smoker, a Bradley Smoker and we now have a Camp Chef Grille in our outdoor BBQ area. It's a counter area where the BBQ was inlaid into the counter, we removed it and replaced it with the grille. All angles covered. - Pacificgem
Yes, police should have the power to detain those people who need detaining. But a lot of the video I’ve seen has shown police engaging peaceful people, walking away from the situation with violent actions. Perhaps we’re not seeing the whole picture. Perhaps that individual had previously been engaged in unlawful behavior, but let me ask you, do you support an officer beating an assailant who is not currently engaging in a crime or resisting arrest? - 1970vintage
I have turned on the tv on Saturday because my wife was on social media and made me aware of a situation unfolding in Seattle. The footage was a reporter live feed from the protester front line, the North Face, Helly Hanson stores were being filmed as looters were blatantly stealing merchandise and destroying the store, while others were lighting vehicles on fire and throwing Molotov cocktails at police. They interviewed peaceful protesters that stated their protest was hijacked by individuals trying to cause unrest.
My opinion of any law enforcement officer or any person for that matter has no right to beat anyone, I'll even go one further, verbal abuse is also not supported.
But as soon as anyone crosses the boundaries and engages in unlawful conduct they should be held accountable, not beaten, unless they started the altercation. Throwing Molotov cocktails at police, you should expect a baton smack up the side of the head.

At the beginning of the video a protester threw an explosive at the motionless cop car. The second car pulled up and the first one then drove ahead with people standing on the car.
He is a simple rule that I thought I would never have to explain to anyone, if you don't want the cops to try to run you over then don't throw explosives at them and don't jump on their cruiser.

Exactly what I've been trying to say and getting labeled a racist for it...

Don't take anything for granted anymore brother... I've learned in this forum that the pot is allowed to call the kettle black... And the kettle can't say boo about it...

You are the biggest victim on this site. Put down the violin and grow a pair
You said mental health and drug addiction were not criminal acts but the police are being forced to deal with them. Maybe I misinterpreted that.
Anyway, we agree, more funding, more education, better training, more appropriate compensation. - 1970vintage
Yes, but nothing about being the keystone reason. As a society we are treating them as a criminal act and I disagree with that.
I just find it interesting that there are protests in Canada about police brutality. I looked it up, there have been 190 cases of deaths in police custody since 1932 in Canada.
As a comparison, on average, 1,200 people die per year in the hands of police officers in the US. According to Wikipedia, police killings are the leading causes of death for young men in the United States. That’s shocking.
