Tried to tell a lawyer who specializes in free speech that he didn't understand the 1st amendment and then got upset when he didn't "engage in explaining" it to her

She's absolutely terrible

Eh. I get along with her.

She's pretty performative, but her articles are entertaining.

The athletic in general I one of most bogus outlets out there. Most of them come of as complete morons posting articles with click bait headlines just to try and scam you into buying a subscription to their bs.

She in particular is quite annoying on Twitter. I get it she’s the canes writer and thy are a good team but she hypes them up way more than what they’ve earned.

Trade Risto for 5 premium pieces. Trade Samson Reinhart for a treasure trove of assets.

Louie Eriksson would look great in a Sabres uni. Best thing is, you guys can have him for free if Botterill just asks.

The Sabres need to bring in more players who have been an important piece to a winning culture... or at bare minimum seen what it takes to push each other and hold each other accountable. They lack that above all else. Toffoli might be a UFA possibility, but I have no idea what he is like in a locker room, obviously. He would only be a piece of the solution, though. Simmonds, although past his prime, I think has the right character and what he brought to the team is that he represents the lunch-pail, blue collar mantra of the Buffalo community. Those fans don't demand Championships, they hope for those. What they demand and identify with is a team that reflects the pride of the community out on the ice (or field, in the case of the Bills). Losing is one thing, but watching the players not give it their every ounce of effort is what drives those fans crazy. I don't know which players are available who would fit this description or what they would cost, but that is where they need to start. They have some skill, they need character guys who leave it all out on the ice now (and better goaltending). Henrik Lundquist might even be someone worth looking at until UPK is ready in a couple of years. He would demand respect in the room and hold the fort on a short-term basis... but the Rangers would need to take Okposo as part of the return, I would think, for it to work cap wise.

I like what you wrote up until Lundqvist. He’s not going to Buffalo. Maybe to a contender with cap space IE Colorado. He will retire before that.
You are bang on with the rest of it.

Nice life, being a Sabres player the past decade.

Most of them are overpaid. Few of them face a challenge for their roster spot. All of them enjoy longer vacations than their peers.

She tries to overcompensate for the amount of negative stuff that's historically written about the franchise.

In particular she has a tendency to fall in love with the personalities of the players moreso than their actual ability on the ice.

Eichel...like McDavid...like any star player...WILL AND SHOULD...demand a trade at some point.

He has no obligation to waste his career in an organization that is a forever joke.

This is professional sports...Eichel was forced to play in buffalo...unfortunately he received bad advice and did the 8 year extension.

What Trouba did in winnipeg is the way all players should proceed...take less money but put teams on the 7 year clock...become a UFA at 25 and go where YOU want to play...getting away from the many Mickey Mouse organizations like buffalo and edmonton.

Future superstars...GET TROUBA’S AGENT!!!

The Sabres need a veteran player with experience, clout, and a ring to help push and support them in tough stretches. Someone who has been to the playoffs plenty of times and brings that winning attitude and respect. One guy who could accomplish that, although the trade wouldn’t be easy, is Ryan Getzlaf. He could be a #2 Center. He’s 35 so he’s at the end of his career but he brings everything they need.

I don't share in that opinion of the Athletic. I'm perfectly happy paying for my subscription at their price point and I like almost all the content posted across the sports that I'm interested in. There's bound to be content that I don't like and content that I downright think is trash....but I'm very happy with their stuff.

Frankly, I think Civian does fine sports journalism work...I just find her general attitude to be wholly intolerable and I can't stand her.

I found that, before I unfollowed her, she's pretty quick to jump on the SJW bandwagon for just about anything and everything. But seeing her RT'd into my timeline today literally telling a free speech lawyer that he's wrong about a free speech issue had me cracking up. She wouldn't back down either and then tried to make it out to be his fault that they couldn't have some sort of civil conversation.

Absolutely not..ABSOLUTELY not. No thanks on another washed up, used to be.

as a die hard fan of the Sabres, if they suck again next year and Eichel demands out, I wont hold it against him. This has gone on FAR too long.

Yeah she can get pretty unhinged. I'm sure she's a fine person but the way she carries herself is absurd sometimes. I'm sure if she read this I'd be labeled some sort of misogynist because I can't handle a strong-willed woman...or something along those lines.

Buffalo’s offseason:
Resign their RFAs. Especially Reinhart.
Their D is pretty good but I’d go after Joel Edmundson. Won a Cup with the Blues. Solid stay at home LD to partner with Ristolainen. A top 4 of Dahlin - Montour and
Edmundson - Ristolainen is pretty good.

The Sabres can weaponize their cap space. Approach a team in need of shedding cap space and scoop up a veteran or two. Prime example would be Tyler Bozak in St Louis. He can provide veteran leadership for younger skilled guys like Cozens, Reinhart and Middlestadt. Only one more Year left on his deal so it’s not overly risky.
Other players they can look to acquire relatively cheaply might include: Tyler Johnson, Killorn, etc.
In free agency they might go after similar players with that drive and determination. Pat Maroon is a great example.
This would be the offseason for a club that typically has to overpay for UFAs to finally attract higher profile UFAs.
They can sign a veteran UFA G to support Carter Hutton and hold the fort until they develop a G of the future.
Candidates: Mike Smith, Crawford, Talbot. I think there’s no way Holtby or Lehner sign in Buffalo. Maybe in a dream.
If the NHL offers compliance buyouts then Okposo is their candidate.
There’s lots of room to work.
And ... they have to hit pay dirt with their top ten draft pick this year.
