Buffalo’s offseason:
Resign their RFAs. Especially Reinhart.
Their D is pretty good but I’d go after Joel Edmundson. Won a Cup with the Blues. Solid stay at home LD to partner with Ristolainen. A top 4 of Dahlin - Montour and
Edmundson - Ristolainen is pretty good.

The Sabres can weaponize their cap space. Approach a team in need of shedding cap space and scoop up a veteran or two. Prime example would be Tyler Bozak in St Louis. He can provide veteran leadership for younger skilled guys like Cozens, Reinhart and Middlestadt. Only one more Year left on his deal so it’s not overly risky.
Other players they can look to acquire relatively cheaply might include: Tyler Johnson, Killorn, etc.
In free agency they might go after similar players with that drive and determination. Pat Maroon is a great example.
This would be the offseason for a club that typically has to overpay for UFAs to finally attract higher profile UFAs.
They can sign a veteran UFA G to support Carter Hutton and hold the fort until they develop a G of the future.
Candidates: Mike Smith, Crawford, Talbot. I think there’s no way Holtby or Lehner sign in Buffalo. Maybe in a dream.
If the NHL offers compliance buyouts then Okposo is their candidate.
There’s lots of room to work.
And ... they have to hit pay dirt with their top ten draft pick this year.

A Manitoban who likes Edmundson?

Nashville has some pretty hefty long-term contracts out there. They have Duchene and Johansen down the middle, along with 4 years left on both Turris and Arvidsson. Bonino is the 3rd center there, a TON of years on Sissons (but cheap)

Josi and Ellis signed long term...maybe they'll wanna lighten the long term burden.

Its not like they are hurting for forwards. Theyll try to sell us Turris, we need to buy in on Forsberg.

The hypocrisy is hilarious. I'm sure David Poile is just dying to gift the Sabres Filip Forsberg. You're still a know nothing, insecure, thin skinned twit, Garf. It's no wonder you were fired. I'm just surprised it didn't happen sooner. You still haven't said who the Sabres are trading to get Forsberg. I'll give you time to plug in your NHL20 video game.

I just laid out why Nashville might be willing to part with him. A lot of long term cash tied up...

But...try the "Garf" joke again...maybe the 43,174th time it WILL be funny

It's not my fault you were fired, Garf. Your hockey knowledge is very limited. Why wouldn't Poile just buy out Turris? Poile isn't trading Forsberg for the boat load of crap you always suggest in your make believe fantasy land trades. Smarten up.

Yeah she can get pretty unhinged. I'm sure she's a fine person but the way she carries herself is absurd sometimes. I'm sure if she read this I'd be labeled some sort of misogynist because I can't handle a strong-willed woman...or something along those lines.

You seem rattled, Garf. I'm still waiting to see which players are coming back to Nashville for Filip Forsberg. If your head doesn't explode first. I'm sure the little marble in there is worth something. Maybe GMJB can offer that to Poile?

To answer your asinine question, ass, he could buy out three years of Turris and get nothing but cap issues with that, with no player in return, or, he could move Forsberg for a top 10 pick, and other players. a top 10 pick, Mittlestadt and Lawrence Pilut doesn't sound better than nothing but dead cap space??

But then again....youre here for the bad jokes.

This is quite likely over your head but I'll try. Are you familiar with cap compliance buyouts, Garf? You know. Where a GM can buyout a players contract and not suffer any salary cap penalties? The rumour is that each team will be allowed one following the current season. So no, the Preds wouldn't have cap issues with buying out Turris.

Casey Mitts' value isn't as high as it once was. He's not a bust mind you but he's not getting you Filip Forsberg. The Sabres first round pick would surely interest Poile but why would GMJB do that? You're going to get a very good player in the top 10. Why should GMJB set his franchise back another 5 years?

We MIGHT get a very good player. We might get Alex Nylander. Getting Forsberg wouldn't be setting the franchise back 5 years.

Why would Boteril do it? His job is hanging by a thread. That's why.

We? I didn't realize you worked for the Sabres, Garf. You could at least spell your GM's name correctly. So GMJB is going to save his his job by making a quick fix trade? Because those trades have worked out so well for the Sabres in the past. Well that makes total sense. Especially since Buffalo is in the draft lottery and could jump up to the top 3.

Or even win it. But you'd rather have Filip Forsberg playing for the Sabres over Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle, Drysdale, Perfetti, Rossi, Holtz, Raymond, Askarov, etc. Good for you. Maybe you can replace Boteril as Sabres GM? You can even use EK as a reference. Maybe Jack even. Do you still wear your Jorts to fit over your feeble minded fat a$$, Garf?

I don't share in that opinion of the Athletic. I'm perfectly happy paying for my subscription at their price point and I like almost all the content posted across the sports that I'm interested in. There's bound to be content that I don't like and content that I downright think is trash....but I'm very happy with their stuff.

Frankly, I think Civian does fine sports journalism work...I just find her general attitude to be wholly intolerable and I can't stand her.

- eichiefs9

I think based on most comments here it appears we can all agree that her personality/attitude is the issue. Personally as I said I’m not a subscriber so all I can really go off on her hockey views is those that she tweets, which as I said probably plays a large part into her like-ability.

As for the athletic itself I’m sure there is some good content. Most of the articles I come across are either click bait headlines on ridiculous hypotheticals or something that’s been written about 20 times over by other journalist that I can read for free. I might sound picky but if I’m going to read something hypothetical I at least like it to be realistic. Hockeybuzz supplies all the ridiculousness I can need.

Mind you I have never gone out of my way to look up an athletic article, most come up sponsored on Facebook or twitter. I also don’t see the point to pay for something when I can get it for free elsewhere.

I said earlier if we won a lottery pick I wouldnt trade it. So...

Remember how very good sam Bennett was going to be? How very good Dylan Strome was going to be?? Puljujarvi?? Yeah...sure things.

Is Botterill going to save his job with a quick fix? If the quick fix (Forsberg) is the difference between making the playoffs and missing for the 10th year in a row, you re damn right hes gonna. You dont think so?

By the way, I misspelled his name because I was driving home from work. I guess when you dont have a job, you have all day to spell check. Does your mom have your supper ready, yet? Maybe she made your favorite, dinosaur mac and cheese, right?

The main things I see they can/NEED to do

1. Finally get Risto out of here. I like him, but its better for EVERYONE is he gets dealt. get a quality 2nd/3rd line winger for him. 3rd line is fine, but a quality 3rd guy. NO FROLIKS OR SIMMONDS.

2. Deal that first pick (assuming its not top 2) for a 2nd line center. Don't get a mid level 3rd line center and tell me he's a #2. They legit thought Berglnd was a #2. If you have to pair that pick with Risto, so be it.

3. GET A TRUE NHL GOALIE.

Garf, Ek fired you. You don't have a job. I guess driving for meals on wheels is a job so I take that back. Spelling your GM's name properly is basic hockey knowledge. Not the Columbus GM though. So you're basically saying that the Sabres long term future is not as important as making the playoffs next season? That's smart. Good GM's position their teams to compete year in and year out. It's not impossible.

You're a macaroni and Cheese eating dinosaur, Garf? I guess this explains why your feeble minded fat a$$ can't fit into the Jorts, Jack gave you a few years ago. Lighten up on the carbs and dairy, Garf. Do some weights, get some cardio and improve your diet. You'll feel better.

Forsberg will be 26 in August. Which is 8 years older than a potential Franchise player will be. But sure, go ahead. Run your Franchise into the ground. Makes total sense, Garf. What's your next trade proposal? Rasmus Dahlin for Darnell Nurse? What happened to your MLew alt? Why are you talking about Ryan Getzlaf's ass? Do you imagine what it would look like in Jorts?
