The NY Rangers might need to be designated the away team for all playoff games because Madison Square Garden is exempt from property taxes as long as it's the home arena to both the Rangers and Knicks. MSG hasn't paid any property taxes since the Koch administration. It's why the Rangers were the away team for all the Stadium Series games for example.

If that is the case the Canes should have last change all series, which is kind of interesting. It won't necessarily tip the series but it would seem like a legit factor.

Very nice guy. I met him late in his life because we were both semi- regulars at the same Japanese restaurant in Manhattan. I saw him many times but very rarely ever bothered him. But when I did speak to him he never seemed put out.

True story: I visited a place called Shannon Springs NY and was told by a local business owner that Ed Koch use to work in that town at a big hotel called the Adler. The hotel was still technically operating but in disrepair. I told her sort of knew Ed Koch. So she gave me some Adler Hotel stationary to give to him with a message that the town missed him. I carried the gift and a letter explaining it with me every time I went to that restaurant until a few months later we bumped into each other and I was able to give it to him. A few weeks later I received a brief letter back from Ed Koch's office thanking me for giving the items to him.

I hate the Rangers, but this is just an easy example of how these businesses make out like bandits against local government.

In NJ, the group that bought the Prudential Center got the state to shut down a competing venue (the IZOD center) for a payment of $2 Million (which they may not have ever paid). The shut down is for a specific number of years but in the agreement when the IZOD center can reopen it must received permission from the Prudential Center ownership as to what type of events it can host.... forever.

So the STATE OF NEW JERSEY is now subservient to a billionaire's private equity group which is making MILLIONS because of this loss of competition. CRAZY!

The crazier part is that the Arena was stated as making money in an official report right before the shut down and then the report was reissued and they were losing money. Even recently the arena was still being used and making money for the state. It has become a popular facility for concert bands to practice setting up for shows before going on tour...

the Hurricanes new lease agreement has them paying nothing in rent for the arena for the last 5 years of the deal, on the condition that they invest at least $1 million per year in youth programs in the city.

It's weird, because the idea is that it isn't feasible to build an arena in dowtown Raleigh, so they're going cutting the rent out to entice Tom Dundon to try to build a new entertainment district around the arena instead.

All these schemes always end up with the taxpayer taking it in the dumper...

Oh yes.

Dundon and NC State University are going to fill their coffers while the state and city dump money into refurbishing to arena.

My father went to NC State in the 1940's. He use to tell me interesting stories about the brothels being famous. He studied agriculture and chemistry. Left school to make poison gas during the war in Pine Bluff, Arkansas while he was a teenager.

His fraternity house was still there when we visited in the late 1980's. He was a Sigma Alpha Mu/Sammy.

Back the Pack, Baby!!!
