General question: you talk frequently about buying wins. What does that mean, and what data are you using to determine what buying wins means? - kingcong39
Glad you asked. We often hear about adding scoring, defense, playmaking etc. and that's all well in good but the real goal, especially in a hard cap, should be to buy as many wins as possible with the cap space you're given.
Buying wins is just saying if i spend this much money or this many assets, how many wins am i adding to my current team in this transaction. The distinction from saying buying goals/assists is you could very well add a player who scores 30, but takes wins off your team. Either they give back more defensively than they provide offensively, or they're simply a bad fit for the makeup of your team.
As for the data, it's the usual stuff (XG, CA, usage etc.) but you weigh it against the current roster, its results, makeup.
This was the big kerfuffle over Patrik Laine because for a while after his rookie year, even though he was scoring all these goals, his on ice play when he wasn't shooting the puck was so bad, that the on ice impact for the Jets was a negative. |

His best years were while he played Center for the Wild. He immediately fell off a cliff (points-wise) once he was traded to Nashville and converted to RW with less responsibility/ice time. I would think the Sabres could get a year or two out of him at Center, if needed, and allow Cozens and/or Mitts to further develop... then Granlund could always switch back to RW on the backend of his contract. I think at $4.5 million he would be a good fit as I think Krueger would work well with him and understanding his European style of play. Thank you for the data analysis. - djc1877

Honestly the only thing that pissed me off more than the 1 hour and 50 minutes of yelling was the last 10 minutes of bullpoop nihilistic ending.
EDIT: I feel like the whole movie was an excuse for Adam Sandler to hang out with Kevin Garnett....who...surprise surprise...is not a great actor.
DOUBLE EDIT: The only redeeming feature of that movie is the (frank)in AMAZING HOT ASS of Julia Fox |

Would like to see him and Skinner flying down the ice together, could feed off each other. If the contract is right I would sign him. We need playmaker's, and he can do that. |

Does 2 not count as a few? Assuming near full health (i know, its a stretch) looking at around 100 GP before he turns 30 - Michael Ghofrani
No, especially when it's under 2 years.
2 is a couple while 3 or 4 is a few. |

What is considered a few?
While many people would agree that "a few" means three or more, the actual dictionary definition of "a few" is, "not many but more than one." So, "a few" cannot be one, but it can be as low as two.

I guess it's socially acceptable vs literal. Im okay with either accepted definition but i usually call 2 a few. Probably because I'm a nerd, or something. |

Example: I tell all the bigshots where I work that something has a few years before happening, and they then find out it's actually 2, or worse, less than 2? I get poop from all of them for improperly defining the time frame. Their reaction would be significantly worse if I correct them to say a few can be more than one and I'm technically correct. |

Over simplification for sure, but seems as though it is an attempt to create individualized +/-.
My beef in using xGF is that ignores a specific player's shooting quality and therefore needs to contain that specific metric to really individualize it and be relative to a specific player.

Few is obviously a relative term, nit picking for a couple of months seems pointless.
Kinda like when I posted a Buyout on Hodgson at $900k in the context of an ~$83m roster,
When it is really $791,666.67 |

I get confused with all these different metrics you guys use. What ever happened to does he produce on the ice or not. Something in Nashville just didn't click with Granlund. |
