And who can blame him for not wanting to play for a perennial loser...

Meh.
Pretty bad when you can't crack the top 7 on a bottom 7 team.
Sure, Pilut can skate and move the puck a little. So could Nathan Paetsch. |

Having him behind Bogosian was and continues to be embarrassing. At this stage in his career he's still a bottom pairing dman with the ability to spot in the middle pair. This whole KHL thing is purely negotiation tactics. Yes, now we need to backfill his spot unless we pay him enough to return. It'll be quite telling if/when we sign a guy for a year at a certain salary, knowing that the salary wasn't good enough for Pilut to return. |

From what I understand, there is also no 'out clause' for KHL contracts. There is a buyout available, but no straight 'out clause'. |

Players who are eligible for this list are those who are not affiliated with an NHL organization right now (no NHL team owns their rights) and are able to sign a contract with an NHL organization after this season. For that second point, they might be playing in a country that has a transfer agreement in place with the NHL (all other European countries except Russia and Switzerland), they might have their current contract expiring after this season, or they might have an NHL opt-out clause in their contract.

Let him go and play regularly, hopefully he developes his game better.
The eye test for me shows he can move the puck skating or passing, but he coughs it up alot when pressured in his own zone, and not a great defensive player either...like many puck moving defensemen who haven't learned the defensive play.
I haven't watched a single KHL game, but I assume it is more suited for his game. |

The way these things work, if Pilut wants to come back, he'll be back.
You see KHL contract terminations often throughout the season, if it means the player can join the NHL. |

I don't believe in conjecture, and I don't "hate" anything in this context.
I believe in proof. I believe that the players and management see him as a fiercely dedicated leader. I believe he's extremely frustrated. Those beliefs are backed up by quotes. |

IMO the team needs some major overhaul. Risto, montour, Miller, McCabe at least two of them gone for help up front.. Dont resign all if any of larry, girgs, frolik, simmonds and vesey. try like hell to upgrade hutton (but i don't think that will happen). get a 2C that can drop back to 3C or wing when/if cozens turns into something. Tell Casey to take poop for real or we are trading him to the KHL. possibly look at trading sam and/or johansson and tage/casey.. Major changes needed and i don't think Botts is up to the task. |

should have cut bogosian sooner and one of the tenured D men of mccabe and risto should be moved if not both |

Reality is, he's just not that great of an NHL defenseman, despite his AHL accolades.
I disagree that he was worse than a few others employed by this team in 19-20. |

I don't blame him for being furious. The mismanagement is beyond a joke. Botterill doesn't know what he's (frank)ing doing. Or, he does know what he's doing, and he's incapable of executing a plan to make the team successful. Regardless, he is failing.
I understand it takes a long time for draft picks to come to fruition, but the parity in the league these days does not make it overly difficult to ice an even moderately successful lineup, even with subpar drafting. 3, 4 years.. ok. It's a reset. NINE (frank)ING YEARS.

Wasnt bogo getting "shopped" for a trade? Basically playing to be moved?
Also , thee ole veteran player getting the nod over the rook. Soccer coaching |

When someone is comparing sam reinhart and brady tkachuk, they are not watching the games.
They have similar goal output, lower 20's .
Wonder how many Brady would have with eichel?
35 would be my guess |

Oh, I couldn't agree more with how poorly the Sabres, Botts specifically, F'd his use. Brutal.
That said, I never felt real confident with him on the ice either.
I would rather have him signed at a reasonable contract to see if his game continues to build...he can do that in the KHL. |

Let's not swim in this pool.
He was being shopped. But even a casual fan knew Bogo was negative value. If he wasn't being shopped years ago, the GM wasn't doing his job. He absolutely knew what Bogo's value, or lack there of was. The problem was, he waited months to waive him. When Bogo asked for a trade, Botts should have known his value by then. He didn't need to d1ck around. You waive him because he's in the way of better dmen.

DBTB pondered what makes a good defenseman on twitter. And if you're a good dman if you can pass the puck.
It was one of their dumber moments. |

Post more, alot more
I also believe an overhaul is necessary rather than a tweak.
The players are collectively weak mentally...fragile even.
They play a very soft style, constantly knocked off the puck.
So in addition to more skill which is evident, so is an upgrade in mental, competitive, physical aspects. If they overlook those, more of the same. |

GM sets the roster.
Coach determines lineup.
If the GM hasn't called up Pilut, how does the Coach play him? |

Its botts defense, the trade deadline is a good time to unload a veteran d , after being eliminated from stanley cup contention.
Probably was the plan, from the start of the season.
Scandella trade was premature
Bogo waived was postmature |
