Reinhart actually has played center for the Sabres and has looked great and there.

Obviously he wasn’t the biggest, strongest, or fastest in juniors either, but he thrived there because he was a smart and heady distributor who could anticipate the play and outlet the puck to faster players. Reinhart also shown grit and a willingness to go in the front of the net and he has been rewarded for doing so.

How big, strong, fast is a guy like Patrice Bergeron, or a guy like Ryan Nugent Hopkins anyway? Reinhart is older now and up for the challenge.

I remember hearing, probably during a wgr interview, that sam is better using his high IQ off-the-wall on the wing, also behind and in front of the net and that it's better that he not have the middle-of-the-ice defensive responsibilities that go with being a center...i'm pretty sure that's how it went and I tend to agree...

don't shoot me, but that's what I recall hearing

- Michael Pachla

Aside from his 9 game stint during his rookie season, Reinhart has had consistently good to strong defensive metrics every season.

I'm not saying that translates to how he would impact the game at Center, just adding in that information to the conversation.

They should have tried Reinhart at Center for an extended period of time during the last 2 seasons, agreed.

The fact that they did not seems to clearly indicate it is never going to happen.

I can’t speak to this with 100% certainty, but personally I think it’s been Eichel’s call.

Eichel and Reinhart are boys and if they want to keep Eichel happy, they’re smart to let him pick his wingers... After all, look what happened to Coach Bylsma. But remember this, Reinhart used to be on Orileys wing, not Jacks. Jacks guy used to be E.Kane.

when you flank him with Pouliot and Griffith

the expectations should be the same as putting Skinner on a line with E rod and Sheary

You would be asking a lot of Cozens and even more of Eichel in terms of having to handle heightened defensive responsibilities with two wingers like that on his line.

You do realize that is his natural position right? The position he played to armed him being draft #2 overall... the position he dominated the World Juniors (between Domi and Duclair) at.

Was he the biggest guy on the ice back then.

I think he's much better as a winger...god knows I wish he was a center, a top-six at that, but it doesn't look as if it will turn out that way

I've always wondered: how many centers are actually fast, aside from the obvious few?

Bigger and stronger, sure. Faster? I'm not sure there are a ton of fast centers out there.

- kingcong39

I know people like to be nice and call Sam's speed average. Honestly, the Sabres aren't a fast team overall and Sam is probably their slowest F. I think it causes major issues, especially for a guy who is most effective around the net.

he turned the corner the last 20 or so games

there is a reason olofsson and asplund learned to play penalty kill in rochester and it showed once both had a few nhl games under their belt

His defensive numbers last year were far from good.
