Which one, when they traded for him, or when they traded him away. Cause they both hurt the franchise. - Buff36
Traded away of course, Oriley was the new Drury and Eichel the new Briere. They had the recipe fall into place and a noob gem pissed it away for a bag of pucks and case of Gatorade. Hope they win the draft lottery at this point. |

Well the bag of pucks sucked, but again the owners need to stay out of the way, cause they own some of it. |

RoR and Kane were replaced by Skinner and Montour. Not a win, but hardly as bad as people make out.

Having had seen a lot of kings hockey Up close and personal in LA, I can say that one unmentioned detail Toffoli brings that by and large appears to be Lacking in the Sabres lineup night in and night out, year by year, is the fact that the guy CARES! He doesn’t take a shift off, is a good by example type of leader and you can pencil him in for 20 and 25 with awful teammates or 30 and 35 with better linemates. He is one of those dudes who takes it personally if the team gets embarrassed while also not being afraid to light a fire under his line now and again. Is he more loveable at 3yrs/$5aav, sure, is market likely to be 4-5 at $6.25-$6.85, also, a big yeah. But if ya don’t develop ‘em you’ve gotta pay market. Them’s the breaks. - 13of39
He had 31 goals ONCE
Other than that, he NEVER topped 24goals
Aand he’s played with good players the vast majority of his career
Talk about exaggeration |

False premise. If he had the ability, he'd play it. He's been subpar at best at every attempt. - TheSabresTaco
Not really
Last time Sam had a shot at Center was with a couple scrubs as his wingers who’ve never played in the nhl again after that season
Tough spot to see him succeed
Idk why we didn’t try him on line2 with Skinner this past season??
Could’ve been a good pair w/ Sam setting him up |

Yes, but that’s not the Pegula way... “continuity” and botts ain’t going no where... so again, option A. Or option B... it’s the Pegula way... |

he is a second line winger
if short term it's fine, like craig smith
right now other then reinhart, who is your other RW in the top 6?
and if you say move johansson to the rw, toffoli is better - homiedclown
Maybe
We don’t have to give Johansson a 5yr (longer?) deal for $6-7mil to get him into that lineup spot though |

I don't think you understand how much of a goal void LA is.
The Kings have had exactly three 30g scorers in the last 10 years and Toffoli was one of them (Kopitar and Carter were the others). In that time they won two Stanley Cups, and made it to the Conference finals 3 times, so it's not like you can say they were bad.
LA is where goal scoring goes to die. That doesn't mean the players that play there are bad, it just means that they system they play stifles offensive production. Hopefully that changes under McLellan.
Toffoli is an exceptional goal scorer that would thrive playing in an offensive system with quality teammates.

He also brings a lot more than just goal scoring ability and the players who play with him almost always see a bump in on ice results.

Even if all that’s true, and it’s debatable,
the Sabres don’t play an “offensive system”
We play more like LA
We need to get faster,
not sign another Okposo style player
Toffoli can go somewhere like Pitt and MAYBE be worth the contract he’ll get
He wouldn’t do so here though |

They should/probably will at some point change up the system. They played this way because it helps cover up the lack of depth a little bit, but the long term effects are really bad. We've already seen it with Dahlin, Skinner, Montour and even Reinhart to a lesser extent. |

He has experience in front office management and Kim is beyond bad.

Extending contracts to:
Larsson
Girgs
Vesey
Simmonds
I'd say they are on their way to keeping the system and playing boring-ass hockey again. |

People still refuse to acknowledge that Evander Kane wasn’t good here.
He was a negative WAR/GAR and was never able to gel with centers.
Skinner is twice the player |

I know there are people here who are connected in different ways and that's fine, but until they actually retain these guys, they haven't.
It just wouldn't make any sense, the best players on this team do their best work in the opposite system. |

Can only work within the parameters give and they probably ain’t selling soon.
Where a smart owner would hire a Gillis type, maybe stipulate some financial boundaries and tell them to go get it.
We have Kim and her wealth of hockey and sports team knowledge “fixed in”.... |

Even if they do,
Toffoli isn’t a fast skater at all
And most of his big $$$ contract he’s about to get will have him in the wrong side of 30
If we already a “fast” team,
then maybe a guy like Toffoli could be a fit
But that’s not us at all |

Are there a lot of people denying that? Haven't really noticed it.
On the other hand, Drury was washed 2 years after leaving Buffalo. He's still treated like a god.
