When we traded for him, or when we traded him. Cause trading him isn't looking so good return wise, still will take a little time with Tage and Johnson to see if we really got bent over. Again the owners shouldn't have gotten involved though. They hurt the return. |

Ok so again, who you then dumping for space?
Olofsson
Jokiharju
Dahlin
Reinhart
All need new deals and are probably getting decent coin.

We wouldn’t have 3 lines still. Not to mention even if we did have both, who are we getting rid of this offseason or next to make sure guys like Reinhart, Dahlin and Jokiharju get signed? - sbroads24
Bridge deal for Sam
Dahlin & Jokiharju don’t have to be signed till after NEXT season
Sure, choices would have to be made
But good teams deal with that stuff all the time
Also... you’re changing the discussion here
The point was that we’d be a playoff team NOW with them
We would be |

Doubt we have Skinner if we kept Kane - Buff36
I went through this back then
We still would’ve gotten Skinner
No way Botts turns down that deal
Might not have been able to re-sign him if he still wanted 9mil though
And i know this is all hindsight
If we wanna be realistic...
there’s no way Kane was coming back bc of the extenuating circumstances
So if we are gonna go back in time,
the only reasonable thing would’ve been Botts (or a Team Pres if we had one) talking the Pegulas out of trading ROR
Which could’ve been possible i think
But that’s just speculation on my part

Well we don't want to go back in time, hindsight would have had us do a actual rebuild, instead of just a retool. Which didn't work out so well. |

Right. Hindsight is going back and not trading for Kane, RoR, or Lehner, then drafting better. What we did with all those 1sts is embarrassing. Buying high and selling low just furthers the pain.

Only Reinhart needs a new deal. (frank)ing chirst people are always giving our prospects 8 million in our cap 2 years before their ELCs expire. |

Some of the players that came out of those drafts back then. What a shame. |

Eagles lost there Pro Bowl Guard Brandon Brooks with a Torn Achilles, know it's early but does Beane get a call. |

A fair amount fof sure, but depends on years left, production and age.
If they could secure a ~30 yo vet who puts up 65 poi ts consistently with 2 years left that would be ideal, or go after a you get gun and let Cozens dual him out I. 2 years when he is ready.
Different costs I would imagine.
IMO, Think of a package of a good roster player, a good prospect and a draft pick, be it as these examples only...other poster might have different toughts
-Sam/Risto + 2020-1st +? for Larkin
-Montour + Mitts +? for D Strome - IonSabres
I think those are reasonable trades but not sure DET would be keen on moving Larkin.

Olofsson and Sam are RFA's in need of new deals.
I would be shocked if Sam takes a classic Bridge or Prove it deal.
He did once, and he proved it both years, he has nothing left to prove.
He, like others may however take a 1 year or 2 gear deal in view of letting the league revenue and therefore Cap get back on track before they sign a long-term deal.
I wouldn't classify that as Bridge deal though.

I'm guessing it's a different medical staff 15 years later? - Boss34
I doubt it. The medical director is the same doctor that saved Zednick's life, also, maybe Kevin Everett's ability to walk. |

Thats what I like about Beane, he's always thinking of next year too. I mean he brought in a former pro bowl RT in Williams, opens up Ford moving to RG, might be able to get a decent pick for Feliciano. |

Right, they the depth still wouldn’t be good enough. That’s my point
ROR + Kane = 14.5 mil - sbroads24
There is no other way around it, depth is built through the draft.
Hit on this years pick, insulate Cozens well this year, Thompson no longer has waivers eligibility so hope he can contribute cause he’ll be on the team.
Hopefully Mitts figures his poop out cause if he does the outlook of this team flips on a dime.
I think missing the playoffs this year was a blessing in disguise. We will get a solid player in the top 9. |

That’s why I’m one of the few Botts supporters.
Some call it wasting seasons, I call it building a cup contender. Cozens and take your pick of any of the forwards this year are players that would be almost impossible to obtain via trade. |

I don’t dislike Botts, my opinion of him has taken a giant hit though.
He doesn’t get credit for being bad this year |

Maybe people define it differently, but in my book a bridge is anything that ends with the player still an RFA. If Sam took a 1 year, I'd call it a bridge. Can't see either side wanting that. Certainly hope they avoid arb, that would get ugly.

Hindsight if we would have drafted better back then and used those 1st and hit on a few of them. We probably aren't in the position we are in know. But the past is the past, lets hope this draft and Cozens can help flip the script. |

Risto for Eric Staal would prob be the most inexpensive route. Hell, he even played with Skinner. Then hope Mittlestadt develops in a few years. But Ralf said in his post season presser he sees Risto as a key part to the defense. - SuperCat
True but what do you expect Ralf to say were going to move Risto he's overrated & overpaid?
Risto should be the equaling out the cap part of a move by us to acquire a solid #2 C with term, similar money to Risto and a proven track record. These guys dont come cheap but if we packaged Risto with our number 1 pick or Cozens we will find a trade partner our there. Free agency has been our downfall and 9 times out of 10 it backfires on the team buying a UFA (see Skinner and Okposo). |
