I would not complain again if sam put up 60/65 points not on Jack's line, but including PP time

Or

75-80 points on Jack's line.

Your 90 points over 2 seasons is probably a fair prediction though 😉

- Boss34

If Sam was able to get 60 on his own line as a center we would be in so much better shape.

$7+m for Sam
$2.85m for Kahun
$3.5 - $4.5m for Olofsson
$2.5+m for Ullmark
$2m for Girgs
$2m for Larsson
$3m for Vesey
$2m? for Simmonds

Overall, a lot more money for the same players.
Retain Risto at relatively high price for a subpar 2nd pairing

Now add in moderately high priced talent at wing
$6.5m for Toffoli (28), Granlund (28) or Dadanov(31)

= Goodbye 2C, the absolute #1 need on the team

Appreciate the creamsicle look at UFA's to pass time, but none of that matters until they get a true 2C on this team. If they wait and limp along until Cozens is ready/IF Cozens can play 2C; then they should stay away from the UFA market altogether so as NOT to overpay for old, declining talent that become boat anchors by then.

Trades need to happen 1st to acquire the right strategic pieces, then color between the lines with a few choice UFA signings.

- IonSabres

Agree the Sabers need help at C. What do you think a legit #2C would cost us in trade?

I agree, or trade him for a different non losing face that can put up 60 points as a 2c

Not really. At the time though he was still considered a B level prospect with value.
- Fattony1187

i did expect way more from Montour though. at the time we basically looked at it like trading a 1st to get what we expected we would get from Guhle sooner.. but lets be honest if we kept that pick we would have just reached on another D man to add to the long list of meh D prospects we have

whats it matter Botts doesn't know how to evaluate Centers and will trade for a winger and tell them to play center.

Jack wont be happy with status quo and I think behind the scenes they have agreed to make some moves to make him happy. I think the Sabres will be aggressive before the draft.

Either find out if Dahlin is Foppa 2.0 or trade him for the best 2C that money can buy. Do it know. I don't now how many more times do I need to say it?

Lucky for some, unfortunate for others, the archive doesn't lie. Check

I don't know that bolded are must haves here. That's 7 mil you're projecting, 6.5 of which can be used else where and that's before considering other subtractions off the current roster.

That's not to say it wouldn't be challenging, but I think it would be worth it. This is medium-high risk though I acknowledge that, and plenty of reasons to say thanks but no thanks.

The sens are 1 year into their rebuild

right now ranked second best prospect pool, sabres are ranked 18th

you can make a strong case after the draft they will be ahead of us long term and with 1 or 2 key moves at least as good as us on paper short term

are kym and terry overrated? they were getting torched for those lifestyle comments and the sabres have sucked so hard since they took over. I dont know that people overrate them, but maybe?

Ralph is not a coach he is a motivational speaker

Yes and they have traded players for prospects and picks, and used those picks to draft players, We started are rebuild and traded away prospects and picks to bring players in. And then traded more picks to bring in players because we had no prospects worth a damn to fill those spots. This is a failure of 2 GM's in a row, we never actually rebuilt, we just retooled and it blew up in are face.

we went from a drunk to a putz.. one tried to be good now by only focusing on offense and the other tried to do the slow build but only focused on D while trading away the good offensive players the drunk overpaid for

Sam actually looked great at center for the Sabres. Keep pushing the incompetence that has made this organization the laughing stock of the league tho.

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it might just be a duck. Try not over think this stuff, you might hurt yourself.

But if you move Ralph to President. Kym and Terry to the yacht and bring in Gallant or Lavi... you may actually have some semblance of an NHL management structure.

This would be a fun exercise... Let's see how many #2 overall picks in the history of the league have changed positions... hmm, I wonder?

I mean, I know Drisitil did it off the bat @ #3 overall but he was moved back to center this year and lead the league in points.... Soooo maybe that's more of an argument to move Sam back to C huh?

- SuperCat

So a guy is drafted for position A but ends up going to position B because he's better at it, but it's all the sudden frowned upon simply because where he was drafted. What incredible logic.

Yes, it would be nice if the guy you drafted to play a position played that position. But if they're better somewhere else, it should really not matter anymore.

Yes, and we brought in some good offensive players but with all the trades we really had nothing to put around them. We need those kinda trades know, not 4 or 5 yrs ago. We weren't ready then.

I still have yet to hear a logical argument as to what he has done to merit this.
