I mean, it's not like fully interviewing candidates has worked the past 2 times either... - kingcong39

CM - sbroads24
I know who he meant, but the totality of his statement below confused me, as they sent Casey down early in the season, so it seems off to say Botterill only realized it shortly before the season pause.

If he had ponied up sufficiently for Trochek at the TDL instead of doing his cheapo moves, they probably would have won one more game. Then they'd be in the tournament and he'd have a job. All of this was his doing. He dug his own grave through chronic procrastination combined with baffling panic moves and flat-out unnecessary trades while simultaneously neglecting the 2C position for 2 years.
Ultimately his inability or unwillingness to address a chronic problem cost him his job.
The Sabres are undoubtedly better off now that Botterill is gone. It's a great day to be a Sabres fan. - jcragcrumple
Hey I am not sad he's gone, I have supported some things he's done but more and more head scratchers as time went on. But are prospect pool was horrendously bad when he took over, he made trades that didn't work out, but some shouldn't have had to be made in the 1st place if there were players in the system to take spots but there wasn't and that goes back to TM and his drafting and trades. Franchise has been (frank)ed up for years, not just 1 GM. Botts got fired and he deserved to, but this is a failure of multiple GM's |

I am in no way trying to get anybody excited about their choice, at all.
I am only saying that nothing has worked so far.
Selfishly, I am excited due to having zero idea what they are going to do in terms of roster moves. |

Fwiw, I don't project him to be the one making the long term vision/decisions.
I think they want to hire someone above him, and that person will hire their AGM's (one of the more telling signs). |

Oh sorry, my dates were off. I was thinking it was like Feb...it was Dec 17th. Still 31 games so approaching half a season.
But he was pegged as the 2C for an entire year after Berglund walked. Had a whole off season to address it. He either procrastinates, doesn't know how to make a trade, or doesn't know how to read someone's ability.
Everyone on this message board knew CM wasn't ready. How could Botterill not? Year 1 after ROR, going into the year I could get that. Year 2? Inexcusable.
Heck, he should have sent him down December of Year 1 not Year 2. And I mean full year. |

After the articles on the Pegula’s came out, I immediately didn’t care if Botts stayed, was fired, or who was hired.
The owner’s will be preventing this team from sustaining any type of winning and they absolutely are going to lose Eichel very soon.
It sucks |

My point is that he missed the 24 team cutoff (and thus lost his job) by one point. One point is any single decision he made along the way. Maybe instead of coveting and seeking out frolik for 5 months, he signs pominville immediately following Sobotka's injury.
Any additional tiny move may have saved his job, let alone finally acquiring a 2C. Losing his job was 100% on him

I will have a better feeling about this if they hire someone above the GM

That was my point, if they hire a president who reports directly to Terry and Kim I wonder if they can last a full year,

I agree with what your saying, or don't play a goalie that is having vision problems. |

They made a good offer and Florida wanted someone to replace Trocheck at 2C to continue their playoff run. We didn't have one to offer. Glad he didn't overpay to get an overrated 2C that had 10 goals last season and 10 goals this season before he was traded. For what it's worth, MOJO had nearly the same production this year. |

It needs to be a straight up hockey person. A Lou Lamoriella type. If not they're screwed

Probably can't afford anyone right now.

It makes no sense to hire an inexperienced GM and then hire a Pres of Hockey Ops, who then hires AGM's. What Kim should have done was fire Botts and his clones. She then should have announced an indepth search for a Pres of Hockey Ops. This Pres of Hockey Ops then should go out and hire his GM, AGM's etc.
Who knows, maybe on the presser this afternoon, Ralph will be named Pres of Hockey Ops? Stranger things have happened.

Trocheck had 2 points in 7 games and was a -5.

This is what should’ve happened. But it’s the Pegula’s.
They hired someone who was cheap, will do what they say, and will be a nice scapegoat in 2-3 years |
