He gives Botterill the keys and then says there is no communication.

Gives him the keys, but doesn't let him take the wheel without interfering.

Botterill is and was a bozo afraid of his own shadow. Sometimes a good AGM is just a good AGM and nothing more.

No, he wasn't. He didn't want to rush and didn't want to go about things like Pegula wanted after Pegula gave him control.

Big reason for the communication breakdown, Pegulas can't get there hands out of the cookie jar with the Sabres. 89 did your guy say anything about Adams was told about this about 4 or 5 days ago.

BUF needs some help up front. I would do a deal for Boeser with them but I would make BUF take a "bad" contract off our hands. Here's what I would do if I'm VAN:

To BUF: Boeser + Sutter
To VAN: Ristolainen + 2nd round pick '20

I'm not giving Boeser away

What do you guys here say?

Would be one of the best trades ever ...

There's a difference in not wanting to rush and in not acquiring a 2C for 2 years, while shopping in the bargain bin. He's got 2 good deals, Jokiharju and Skinner, maybe Kahun, but he got killed in the ROR deal because he's got no spine. The baffling trades of Scandella and getting Frolik, pissing assets away on Vesey and Simmonds, thinking Johansson, a winger, could be 2C.

Bozo.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Time will tell if the Sabres’ moves will pay off. If recent history is anything to go by, don’t expect much improvement. It doesn’t help that some observers are already writing off Adams as a yes-man for Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula.

I'm in agreement with most of this. I was a Botterill backer until the last offseason, even then he did some things I considered pretty good for the team.
What pissed me off were
- Not dealing Risto, I said it then and was taken to the shed by Fitz and the Kraut, when I said they needed to trade him in June and that his trade value would conti us to decline. I was right.
-Not acquiring a 2C. He waited until the season started then was "working hard" at a time no other GM was prepared to make a move of that significance.
- rolling into the season with 200 RhDs and 75 LW's. Such a unbalanced roster, fans could see it and mocked about using a flying torpedo alignment.
- using the 4th to acquire Frolik, poop the Fames should have given Botts a 4th to take him. Useless.
- doubling down to acquire Simmonds, with those 2 moves and not dumping Bogo, he wasted valuable Cap space causing a roll-over. That was the final straw.

That said, he did some good things, but then seemed to f them up later
- stealing Kahun for Sheary and Erod was quite the deal.
- Joker for Nylander was great too.
- I liked the Miller trade, too bad he couldn't wrestle Haula out too
- generally like Montour at the time, other than keeping a redundant Risto
- GREAT trade for Skinner, horribly bad contract for Skinner makes it a negative value though

All in all, glad he is gone.
Not sure of Adam's combined with gutting 90% of the Hockey Ops Dept.

When Kerry and Tim Puglia said they didn't want a Hockey Ops person, I thought they meant at the President level...not the other 30 people. They have communication issues, serious issues apparently.

I didn't see this yesterday

@EJHradek_NHL
I’d disagree. From what seen, Greeley has been more interested in promoting himself than actually doing the work that it takes to improve the on ice product. Sexton has been a journeyman. Move on ...

#Sabres have also let go assistant GMs Randy Sexton and Steve Greeley. Have to think both will be sought after. When Greeley was hired in BUF, he was considered one of the young, up-and-comers in #NHL management circles.

- GilPerreault11

There's a reason Greeley keeps popping up when there's a GM vacancy, and there's a reason why he never gets the job.

Same goes for Mike Futa and Bill Zito.

Feel free to try and justify firing Chris Taylor who by anyone’s standards performed very well at his job, and yet Kevin Devine kept his.

None of it was about performance and it was 100% about future costs, and whether said people will bow down and kiss the Pegula’s ass whenever they’d like.

You should apply

Why overhaul Rochester, though, seemingly one of the organization’s bright spots?

It’s really important to emphasize that this wasn’t Chris Taylor and his coaching staff. They’re very good. It’s more about how we want to run the Rochester Americans, ultimately, and it may take some time based on the contract situation. But, you know, I really believe that for us to develop players to become Buffalo Sabres, we need to make sure they’re getting the ice time and they’re being put in a position to where they’re pushed and challenged. We just wanted to make sure that we move forward with that mindset.

It's pretty simple. Chris Taylor set winning ahead of developing. That can be debated until the end of time whether that's the right approach for a "Developmental League". Do you set one over the other? Do you find a way to balance it? Cause if you balance it, you're not setting either as a priority.

It sounds like Adams wants the kids to play. An excessively common theme around here.

And frankly, I'm sick of under developed kids coming in here with unfulfilled expectations. Chris Taylor is an awesome coach and I'm sad to see him go. But if this decision makes our prospects better and more prepared, then I'm all in.

The Sabres are in a better position now that the cap guru is gone. I don't care if they have 0 scouts left. That moron was going to trade a 5th and Samuelsson for #bjustead, call up Mittelstadt and Tage and call it a summer (fall?).

Adams seems bright and articulate and has a focus on analytics and speed. He understands that there is a center issue.

People can cry about the Pegulas all they want. The bottom line is the previous bobo had an enormous staff and unlimited resources and he (frank)ed it all up. If he had done his job last summer, the team wouldn't be hemorrhaging money and there wouldnt be a need to go scorched earth to this extent. I dont blame the Pegulas for going in a new direction. I actually think this will work. Or it might not. But I have hope again

Yeah, I have severe doubts these decisions weren't made before Adams was even hired.

They fired Botterill because he didn't agree with these proposed changes.

Adams had 0 to do with these decisions

SO i was listneing to Shoop and bulldog on demand and caught a ver interesting thing BD said.

He said he knows at least in the case of UPL that Terry hates waiting for players to develop and wants them in the NHL, he has no patience for it.

Could that be one of the larger issues at hand. Terry wants his young kids to play, regardless of it they are ready?

See Mitts, Thompson, Nylander. ETC

Could it be a "Fundamental difference" that they are stressing. Botts wanted Rochester built and Terry adn Kim didnt.

Serious question...

What kids???

A coaches job is to win games or they won't have a job long

Of the kids that were with Taylor, a majority of them improved. Most of them based on where they were drafted were long shots to make it to the NHL.

Sean Malone turned into a decent AHL player under Taylor

Mitts found his game in Rochester
Thompson was a ppg player in Rochester

Ullmark turned into a NHL regular
Bryson looks like he is ready to take the next steps
Oloffson learned the North American game under Taylor

When an organization wants a winning culture and for that to start in the AHL and when the GM signs these veteran AHL guys what the hell is Taylor supposed to do?

He plays the roster he was given and was good at winning (at least in the regular season)

All while having the few younger players improving their game.

This is the point I keep trying to make. Botts was highly regarded and a flop. Murray was highly regarded and a flop. Adams could be a flop. Or he could be good.

And honestly, if Kevin Adams hires one analytics guru to sit there and compile stats and watch video, and make informed decisions based off that one consistent organizational philosophy, we will be light years ahead. Botteril drafted big slow players, small fast players, big fast players, defensive players and offensive players, defense heavy drafts and forward heavy drafts, acquired picks and then consistently dumped picks, traded vets for mid rounders and mid rounders for vets, etc. There was an army of people doing what? Scouting, drafting, and signing worse than your average hockeybuzzer could do with a $100 draft guide.

I think the disconnect here is who the GM is, now. If Botterill were fired, and they hired someone more "qualified", and he did this, we'd probably be less upset because usually the GM wants to bring in "his own guys".

The one thing Adams does have is that he's in about as good a cap situation going into next season as you can ask for going into next season, whether they plan on trimming payroll or not.
