That's a bunch of ridiculous hearsay from people on this board who claim to have connections.
Botts was supposedly fired for not being willing to listen to the owners. But also he isn't responsible for sucking because he listened to the owners?
The lengths people will go to to suck that man's hockey stick is insane. - matty12345
Nah. They're legitimate rumors.
Also, the 9 year track record of the owners speaks for itself.
Too many people fired/quit and have spoken on the Pegula's ownership style to simply dismiss it as bad management beneath them |

I'm also not certain that some of these scouts (though definitely not all) won't be brought back when/if the economic picture becomes more clear. What happened with the Amerks coaching staff sucks, but next year's AHL season is in serious doubt, especially if fans won't be allowed in the stands. And even if they are, there's no guarantee the general public will buy in. I guess you could have furloughed them, but firing them now allows them to find employment elsewhere if they can. - buffalofan19
I firmly believe, and this may be unpopular, that they truly want a new approach for Rochester. There's scenarios in all industries that the guy you have is doing well, but maybe you need someone else to do that job better or differently to succeed. Like firing the old man that doesn't understand how to use a computer.
I would truly bet money that they don't bring back a single person they fired. I'll bet my avatar on it. |

Personally I don't care about Botterill or Adams. The GM isn't the main concern with this team anymore.
The concern is the owners becoming a budget team and proposing cutting salary on the roster. - sbroads24
There is no proof that this will or won't happen. I understand why people could think so. But until I see it, I won't believe it. Cutting a slathe of scouts that have undoubtedly been inept for Christ knows how long is not the problem here.
The optics are dumpster, but I believe the only way to judge here is to see how Adams handles his new hires. There's a McBeans energy to all of this with the synergy talk and all that, and if they do want to emulate that staff, Adams will follow through with his comments and bring in great, driven and ego-less people, just like the Bills. No one wants to hear "Have a little faith" and "trust the process", but he's bringing something different here, something that's needed, and that's a change from the cluster (frank) that's been here forever. |

So that new approach is basically how the roster is built I would assume.
So why couldn't one of the most respected coaches in the AHL who is only 48 years old be that guy?

The lone bright spot in this organization over the last 7 years was that Rochester under Taylor went from a team that was dead last three years in a row to a playoff team for 3 straight years.
You're right, it makes no sense |

Leaner doesn't mean a budget roster.
Again, what if 3 guys do the same job better than 6? That is a "leaner", by definition, department.
People's assumptions here are that this will become Melnyk Land. That needed resources won't be given to the on ice product. I've seen zero evidence that the hockey department will not be given the required resources to succeed. When an anonymous high ranked staffer comes forward and says the Pegulas won't pay for a full cap roster and won't pay for the staff necessary to win on and off the ice, I will concede. Adams has said every resource necessary will be given, and there's no reason to not believe him without proof.
I get some people are defeated. Pessimistic. It's a state of mind I'm choosing to not endure. Basically, there are absolutely ways this team can be better with a different philosophy. Cause the fat staffs and up and coming GMs haven't done d1ck. Why can't a different approach work? |

I care, because a guy got fired for doing his job and doing it well. It is yet another embarrassment check mark on what is the Buffalo Sabres organization.
The one thing you can say that Taylor sucked at was in the playoffs which is an accurate statement.
The guy that was good enough to get promoted to the Sabres bench when there was a coach that went down, and for the 3rd year in a row do something that the big club couldn't even sniff (playoffs) gets canned.
It stinks up the place.
Now go back to your peace love and harmony bs and waste more of daddy's money - Stripes77

Context is important here.
Yes, Botts needed to go.
Yes I believe the Scouting Staff has under delivered and an upgrade is required.
No objection to them releasing those they did.
The problem, and if you have difficulty at least considering the concern here then I think you might just be focusing on the above only...
By selecting a GM with absolutely no relevant Hockey Ops experience, then cutting virtually all support system save for his Coach who has 115 NHL game experience, you are putting the success of the organization at high risk.
Can Adam's do it? We'll find out.
But building an entirely new Hockey Ops department, while also rebuilding the roster is both one hell of an opportunity, but also a very, very significant challenge. - IonSabres
It's absolutely a challenge. And he's overcome MANY in his post hockey career. But why CAN'T he? A rhetorical question. |

Then there are the Pegulas of the world
The Dan Snyder's of the world
You know picking 4 owners out of 120 that have won isn't a good percentage there
Jerry Jones was the owner when the won the Super Bowl but he wasn't in charge, it's when he took over that the Cowboys couldn't get out of the 1st round.
Mark Cuban doesn't make roster decisions. He is the face of the franchise but he lets his GM's do their job.
Steinbrenner went 13 years straight not making the playoffs - Stripes77
Also the Yankess won the WS a lot by just throwing money at star players and having out of control payrolls. |

Well, that's an off the record question for tayls or Adams. I wish I could answer that. But clearly Adams and Tayls have different philosophies, as stated. |

Coaching philosophies?
Or roster?
That is a big difference
I don't know how involved Taylor was with building the roster, so again it confuses me why he was canned, and they won't give a real answer

Find me where I complained that a coach couldn't get out of the first round...
How about making the damn playoffs first
Taylor had 2 shots at the playoffs and would have had a 3rd this season
But again keep posting about what I would or wouldn't complain about because you have any idea what I am thinking...
You can't articulate a thought on your own, do not attempt to even try to tell me what I would think |

Piecing evidence together, it was the four of them (they "interviewed" Adams prior to calling Jason) that decided that player development for the prospects was more significant than loading a roster with vets. I want to see Rochester win. But how does loading a team with veterans help the Buffalo Sabres? You can still install veteran leadership which is extremely important. But when you have defensive prospects PLAYING (frank)ING FORWARD so you can have vets on the back end, how is that development? How does that help your prospects develop into their NHL roles? |
