Maybe the end of the year exit interviews from the players we drafted weren't as glowing as the Hallmark Cards on here?
From what I read and understand he liked to play his vets a lot in important situations and let the prospects wither on the bench. Winning in the AHL is nice but developing players is more important. Perhaps that was a problem and a reason for his demise. - GilPerreault11

Bryson
Asplund

yeah, and if 4 days ago they came out and fired 30 people from the hockey ops department and said the need to rebuild the organization because the results havent been there for too long blah blah blah
we would have all eaten it up. it would have been completely warranted. - robz228
Correct, but the whole leaner word makes everything that much worse, and you know they didn't conduct a true search |

yep, which is why i'm saying i'm glad they are oblivious buffoons. because we could all be sitting here thinking they were going to rebuild with a focus on winning. instead they made it clear they just want to cut costs. |

well lets see Mitts had the same amount of points in the AHL (25) in 36 games as he did in the NHL the entire year prior in 77 games
It took Mitts a few games to get going after he got sent down
1 point in 5 or 6 games after he got sent down, then finished strong
Sean Malone probably wouldn't have been drafted if he didn't grow up in Buffalo.
A 6th round pick that despite injuries had a solid AHL season.
Olofsson has never had as many assists in his career than he did in Rochester and was a near ppg player under Taylor
He had to adjust to the smaller size of the rinks, but Taylor had NOTHING to do with that either I suppose
Byson is on track to becoming a solid NHL player we will see what happens this year
This has nothing to do with Taylor being in the AHL hall of fame and everything to do with the disrespect shown to someone who did what he was asked to do and did it well and was poop canned by cheap owners - Stripes77
One of those players is in the NHL. We'll see how Mitts does after struggling a lot of time in Rochester and if Sean Malone ever makes it then he gets counted as a development but I wouldn't bet a lot on that. I think Bryson was always going to make it but we'll see. This is just a little much for the AHL coach being let go. |

Could have been, I don’t know, what I do know is we didn't have nearly enough prospects playing down there, and that goes back to bad drafting and trades that weekend the prospect pool. |

For all the talk about communication, they are exceptionally bad at messaging.

Coaching in the minors is difficult with how much the roster changes on any given day.
I see it down here in Orlando
A coach that was able to win in a losing organization getting fired raises serious eyebrows.
Especially considering a lot of people considered him the heir apparent to Ralph |

So you're telling me if we make the playoffs for 3 years and get killed every year you wouldn't want a change ? - gerbe75pts
Babcock was fired for flaming out in the playoffs after making it 2 years in a row, and for leaning on veterans instead of playing his young players more...? |

Malone did play key minutes but even though he played 50 some games he was injured a lot of it and he was a 6th round pick aka a lottery ticket
Eric Cornel has been a train wreck since the day he was picked but he improved his production when Taylor took over as coach |

It seems like a clear difference in direction.
It's the 'every player has to earn it and pay their dues' mentality versus young players need playing time in crucial situations consistently and early to help them improve, know what they're working with, and have them be fully ready for those critical situations when they are in the NHL. |

I didn't consider him the heir apparent. I mean, not without a serious wide search and with the development results and playoff results. I know it isn't all on him I'm not sure he is the next Don Cherry, Mike Keenan, or John Tortorella who were former Rochester coaches and went on to the NHL.

Well I can tell you that Adams knew the hammer was coming down about 5 days before it happened. I wasn't told if he knew it was gonna be this much. And that he will be replacing some staff with individuals he has gotten to know over the years. |

Think it was a mixture. The guys you mentioned got a fair shake and probably even slightly bloated minutes.
Guys like Fitzgerald, Oglevie, Cornel, Murray and Johansson were all getting a bit less because vets like Elie, Porter, Wilson and Hammond were still there.
Essentially, our better prospects got the time, but some of the bottom 6 or backup goalie hopefuls got less because we wanted more vets, in hopes of icing a more competitive team. |

Gionta is an interesting candidate to get into some form somewhere. What that is, idk. But he’s respected, played a long time, has his name on the cup, knows the game. Up there with Stevie Y & Sakic (not in terms of talent, just respect around NHL circles) |

No I got it, you'd want an extensive search for a coach, but not his boss who's constructing his roster.
Makes sense |

I never gave that opinion, I said I was ambivalent with the way the move went about. The firing is good the hiring blah but it is what it is.
You should be a fiction writer, it might be your calling you might have to get more interesting though. |

Adams knows a lot of people in the business that he either played with or dealt with. Has a lot of ex teammates and friends that are in different aspects of hockey operations. Don't be surprised if he brings in some helpful pieces. |

This is the stupidest logic. No one deserves their favorite sports teams to ever do good or bad. It’s all entertainment. If it’s not entertaining to you, do something that does. This isn’t a knock on you, but honestly we all dive head first into entertainment like it actually is something that’s the most important thing. - SDSabre

taylor knew olofsson and asplund were legit nhl prospects
he had them playing together in all phases of the game including pk duties
same for casey, tage, bryson, pilut
the primary goal of the ahl is to develop nhl players, or so I thought
there is a lot to say for that as most ahl coaches would lean on ahl vets that have no chance of sniffing the nhl |
