All credit to him for being remarkably healthy, but the chickens are going to come home to roost, as the saying goes, with the amount of minutes he has played.
Yet another reason to trade him now before that begins happening. - kingcong39
That's actually my main reason for wanting him traded. One thing about Risto is that he's always in tip-top shape, however, he probably has only a few years left of relatively injury-free hockey. |

I am kind of shocked that one of Peters, Biron or Rivet weren't let go.

As someone who is into fitness (running, specifically, and all of its benefits), massive credit for him being in the kind of physical shape needed to log all those minutes, but, there is always a price to pay physically, and as you said, MUCH better to get out in front of that possibility. |

if it wasn't for the Sabres Girgs would be making less money and Scott Wilson would have only played in the AHL the last few seasons |

if he gets traded and the team he goes to uses him more efficiently and he only get 17-19 minutes a night he could be a very good pick up and the less minutes could help extend his career unlike what buffalo is doing to him. but at what price is the question. |

This is true. The list of tragedies perpetuated by the Sabres since the Pegulas took over is book worthy. Probably a 2 part book. Thick ones. Sadly this is not an exaggeration. |

I know where you're going with that, but I don't put Biron in the same category as the other two, so my shock still stands.

Risto in a heavily offensive sheltered role playing on the third pair would be just fine.
Only problem is he is never used like that and his salary says he’s overpaid to be in that type of role.
My two cents |

He is. They’ve got a few other truly useless personalities on state run radio though. |

I like Rivet and Peters as people. In fact I could say I really like them and I think Peters gives some really honest and candid insight to his career and how it relates(and many times doesn’t) to the modern NHL.
However when I heard the recording of Peters being “shocked” that Botts was let go it proved why I don’t listen to them. Hockey at large is a boys club and no one criticizes the obvious, ever. To Peters and everyone else in his circle the fact that Botterill played in the show and was respected was enough for them. And they didn’t want to see anything bad happen to him. Meanwhile his on job performance was atrocious and only the fans suffer. |

Or maybe 3 years to rebuild the rebuild wasn’t enough ?
I would have given him this offseason to go for it and fired him if he didn’t make the playoffs next year. |

i am really curious what the straw that broke the camels back was on this.. didn't they just say a few weeks ago that they were happy with him and his job was safe? did they talk about what this offseason was going to look like and they didn't like it? |

They must have made the decision to get "leaner" afterwards. Botterill is kind of pudgy now.

We’re also forgetting get was fired not for on the job performance, but for not cost cutting and being personally responsible for firing members of his own staff for things beyond his control. Which in of itself wreaks of toxicity and dysfunction beyond our imagination.
As far as on the job performance the problem is once your in a position as an individual where you’re back pedaling all the time and trying to point out tiny successes and just survive the day, you’re already done. Mentally you’re not seeing the big picture and it’s going to lead to more bad decisions. |
