Oh yeah, there’s no way he does if there’s no season. But then there’s no ufas signed, and no cap... so ya that doesn’t really matter. But if there is a season, he thinks he wants to play in the show... kinda makes sense he asks for a fresh start. With his payout and new contract, he’s not far off what he would have made and he plays in nhl which he’s made very clear he wants. - neem55
This part has me curious how it will work?
Say in the case of Toffoli He is a UFA in two weeks same as Markstrom . If I was Benning I would be thinking 5x5 for both players . First two years with heavy bonus to entice them to be here so I would offer 6 mil bonus on the first two and one mil salary.

If there were no AHL season I would send Sven down and let him make the decision to sign somewhere else or waste a year of not playing hockey. |

sven is on a one way deal but is playing in the ahl. what happens if there is no ahl next season?
would the nhl have to bankroll the ahl to allow for non-attendance games?
so many issues that haven't even been thought about yet. - RealityChecker
i get that ahl cant survive without fans but not sure how the nhl survives without the ahl either. they could carry extra bodies but then youre increasing your quarantine group and those guys need playing time. and then wondering how many injuries could happen where do you pull from? crazy times... |

that's exactly what i was thinking.
plus, what happens to all those contracts? without a league to place them in, does the team still have to pay the contract out? do players become free agents? so many questions. |

If they increase the roster then the cap has to be adjusted. I can't see owners wanting a 30 man roster when they can only dress 20.
I think it will probably come down to a 50% escrow to recoup the first half of the losses.
I think if players refuse to return to work their contract would be terminated I heard an earlier comment from Friedman saying the NHL will be okay with players not wanting to return to work this season but not next season.

Thank you Maury Silverman. Should we start calling you Scoop?
Truthfully does it surprise you that Matthews would get it?

I would be interested to hear from these athletes how they are after recovering. A lot of misinformation out there on effects of the virus. From “it’s a mild cold” to “you’ll never breath properly again”. I wonder if this will impact stamina etc long term or not. |

Do you think they would do something like the NFL with an expanded “practice” roster. Maybe extend the cap, or create a practice cap? Seems complicated, but if the AHL can’t operate, things are going to get very complicated. |

I don't see them extending the cap at all . The owners know they are going to lose money , I can't see them agreeing to lose even more.
I heard earlier Triple A and Double A baseball is in big trouble this year . I think Amateur hockey is also. |

money aside these guys need game action not only for performance but injury prevention too. i wonder if we start to see the league look more like a hybrid of euro leagues and travel teams. a and b squads staying and travelling together playing games against other clubs counterparts |

I think there will be a wave of players signing overseas (KHL mostly)
Players like Baertschi Goldy Boucher will all probably play there next year instead of sitting around for 18 months doing nothing.
Decisions need to be made soon because the KHL opens soon.

It is curious. I guess im making an assumption, but it seems if there’s no 20/21 season then no one is getting paid or signed. I don’t really see this as the likely outcome at all, in fact i think we see hockey in July. But im saying in the case where it’s called off completely it seems like those guys would remain unsigned. |

It could cost the owner if no hockey for sure. It also gives you a big jump on signing your own two biggest free agents . It would guarantee the two players a full salary for the next two years. |

I don't mean to offend you so don't take it the wrong way but you are a miserable little pucker hole , that hates everything and does heavy drugs . So if it is all the same to you I will leave the cap to the people that actually have a clue. - VANTEL
