Los Angeles Lakers guard Avery Bradley has opted-out of playing in the NBA’s Orlando restart of the season, Bradley told ESPN on Tuesday night.
At forefront of Bradley’s decision to remain w/ his family is the well-being of the oldest of his 3 children. His 6-year old son has a history of struggling to recover from respiratory illnesses and would’ve been unlikely to be medically cleared to enter bubble with his family.
interesting. i wonder how many players will just decline to play. as pointed out on this thread previously, there will be no penalties for players refusing to play this season. - RealityChecker

Nothing wrong with Family First - VANTEL
it's been mentioned several times but the guys whose wives/GFs are expecting or just had babies would most likely opt out. i don't see newborns or pregnant women being allowed inside the bubble and a couple months away from them seems to be difficult.
we'll see what happens but 1 or 2 players on a team could tip it from competitive to not.
there will be pressure to play and pressure to be with the family. very difficult times for everybody. |

My dentist has a newborn and he had a real concern about the health of his baby because he was in contact with a lot lf people. He went to a lot of seminars and did the research . He was advised if his new born did get it it would just be flu like symptoms . Avery's son as you mentioned has respiratory issues .
I heard if a player opts out this year there is no issue by the NHL . Next year would be different. I think that is fair. |

i think you're right in all aspects. in fact, i've read that women who've contracted the virus while pregnant and given birth have had no ill effects on the baby.
that notwithstanding, i think emotions would rule in this situation.
if the season goes ahead, i think the vast majority of players will play but not all. depending on who sits out, it could have a real effect on the cup. |

I seen Stamkos was the head cheerleader last week to shut it down . I thought to myself he has made 85 million already so it is easy for him to say it. What about the poor guys that just bought a house and have a family that make 600 K?
We all know this is about money. The fact that the PA are even speaking to the NHL is to reduce Escrow and to get paid.
The owners have to look out for their money too . What should happen if it was based on safety is see you all aback when we have all been vaccinated . That could take 2 years . Not only that but when the players come back there is a 50 % pay reduction. This is why both sides are still talking.
I see how hard and how long it is taking to get this year finished so planning a next year is hard to imagine next year. If I was a betting man I think the NHL has a 2 month World Cup again with Young Stars and Team Europe , just like before, but I can't see them travelling all about and playing an 82 game schedule and playoffs to empty arenas. |
