Nice job. Was really taken by Steve Valiquette in The Athletic. He, for me, brings together the best of analytics and the eye test. Mike Kelly on WGR talked about a symmetric, working relationship between the two camps and it makes a lot of sense to me. - Michael Pachla
?? What happened?
Ya, I agree that article was really quite interesting. Valiquette really brought to light some interesting points. Others quantified things we knew...get the goalie moving, passes in front fro one side to the other in the crease area are the most dangerous.
I seriously hope they invest in that area...especially with the new player tracking capabilities...more relevant data hopefully. |

Eichel to Ottawa for Byfield and Rossi - Sir Tindoom
Would need more, You know what you have with Eichel. Those are a couple of the prized prospects in the draft, but there prospects, need atleast a good roster player on top of that. |

Remember when Jack was out for those few games and the team looked like a bottom feeder AHL club? I'd love those 2, but you are right, I would need two (2) more good players....or1 and they take Okposo. |

history of number 9 pic is mixed. Couture, Brind'Amour,Neely,Leetch were taken there. also a bunch of busts/average NHLers... |

Historically the "cliff" begins after the 5th pick. Each pick after comes with more risks associated, which is why having more picks is the best strategy, more lottery tickets.
Unfortunately for the Sabres they have neither a top 5 pick, nor a lot of picks (in fact they have less than you start with)

If it means making #9 happy I’d trade the pick for a player |

Yeah, I said the same thing when presented with that in a conversation at work. If Jack decides he wants out of this mess though, you could do a lot worse. (see O'Rielly, Ryan)

I doubt it would. I mean they could win the trade short and long term but the player you get back is rarely every a huge difference maker and usually has an unfavourable contract |

honestly. i wouldnt be surprised if Team A,B,C etc. won it. So, the NHL can add even more drama to the playoffs..
i think the top 5 will go:
1-alexis
2-byfield
3-stutzle
4-drysdale
5-raymond |

If it ever came to that point I’d only want a young star in return.
There’s just no way they move him for a package of assets |

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Lindy Ruff is the "mystery candidate" for the Devils' head coaching job.
A mystery no more, it seems. Ruff, who served as head coach of the Sabres from 1997-2013 and the Stars from 2013-2017, has most recently been working as an assistant coach for the Rangers. He joins Alain Nasreddine, Gerard Gallant, Peter Laviolette, and John Stevens on the candidate list in New Jersey. The Devils finished 28-29-12 in 2019-2020 and will not be participating in the NHL's planned 24-team Stanley Cup tournament. |

I hate living here. Sabres are an absolute train wreck full of dumpster fires, Bills are looking up but we all know what will happen, taxes are ridiculous, they assessed my house at 2018 MARKET RATE, and Brown will be reelected, as well as Cuomo, Schumer, Gillebrand, Poloncarz, and every single other idiot. What player though?
Better be someone young that we can control for a bit
Bc if we get a player that only has a year or 2 left on their contract, idk that we can convince them to stay with the current state of “hockey heaven” |

From what I’ve been seeing for a while now,
Stutzle & Byfield are a toss up for #2
And then it seems Drysdale, Raymond, Rossi & Perfetti could go in any order after that
With guys like Holtz, Lundell, Sanderson & Askarov seeming to round out the top11
There’s always a surprise or 2 though,
so I’m sure it won’t be that cut & dry |

I had originally thought that Lindy would eventually transition from Head Coach to Team President here
Those tank years just spiraled so far outta control
And he obviously hasn’t been ready to give up Coaching & move into the front office |

A friend of mine has combined every draft the Sabres have been in involved in since the lottery began. His analysis even goes so far as sequence of balls dropping during every round of every NHL lottery. The Sabres will pick #3 based on his findings.
The only bad news is he has also predicted the world to end on June 13th of 2020.
