Once tomorrow night is done, seems like it could be 4 months of relative silence for the Sabres.
Probably a good thing. - IonSabres

Winning a top 3 pick doesn't make this team better for next year. - TheSabresTaco
Maybe maybe not, this draft is important. But it depends on what they do in the offseason. Certain teams are gonna be hurting Cap wise, this is the year to go pry some talent away. |

Eichel is not getting any younger.
If we pick 7-8-9 I would gladly trade that pick for someone like Strome but they would have to add a pretty good prospect to sweeten it.
This team makes the playoffs with Strome as our second line center. - sabresfan69
I like Strome a lot, been talking about him for awhile, but I would not give up 7-9 for him. You could get Holtz or Lundell there. Strome can be had for other pieces. |

We don't have other pieces I would give up and Mittelstadt isn't getting it done.
I don't have a problem trading the pick. As I said Chicago has to add.
We are waiting 3 years for Lundell and a minimum 2 for Holtz.
Eichel will be 27-28 by then and they still might not pan out. |

I've agreed with this stance for a long time. Analytics should never be the be-all end-all. I think it's your foundation. But a foundation aint no house, and that's where the other attributes come in. - TheSabresTaco
One aspect I did not see itemized as significant in the player evaluation process from what Pach posted was around Character..the intangibles that I believe seperate the boys from the men.
I would love to see more on how organizations quantify that on some scale. |

Byfield has the frame and skating to make the jump - Michael Pachla
He is very raw though. One of the youngest, if not the youngest player available this year.
It is definitely possible he starts in the NHL right away because he does have the physical attributes however I’d let him go King Kong on the OHL one more year. |

Lundell might be the most pro-ready out of the group other than Rossi or Laf, and yes you might wait for Holtz but he’s a sniper. If it's a good sweetener, I guess, but Lundell might even be better than Strome. Chicago might be 1 of those teams hurting cap wise depending on there LTIR situation, and the Kubalik contract so we might be able to pry Strome away for something. |

If anything i want the SAbres to draft 2nd.
While it would be great to get Laf.
The Sabres desperately need Byfield. |

I said that the same year the Sabres got Dahlin.
Svechnikov was so underrated coming out.
Happy we got Dahlin though. |

good take...imo, any 2020 pick below No. 8, barring anything weird happening with teams in front of them, should be strongly considered as a trade chip - Michael Pachla
If any of the following players are available when the Sabres pick, whether that be 7th, 8th, 9th, or 10th, I would not trade the pick, and especially if it's one of the forwards:
LaFreniere
Byfield
Stutzle
Perfetti
Raymond
Drysdale (D)
Rossi
Holtz
Lundell |

By the logic above, Montour won't be around much longer either. |

Where are you getting the above from?
Lundell has been playing in a top men's league and has a strong enough overall game that he could make the Sabres as soon as next season, let along needing 3 years. |

We do this every year though.
Every year the draft is good.
We couldn't believe we got Mitts with the pick we did. Some people had him ranked really high (Top 3)
Nylander was going to be better than his brother. He was the best goal scorer in teh draft.
Risto was a #1 D-man

The above is incredibly difficult to quantify beyond having a feel for a player.
So many great teams have been full of players that are bumholes that I wonder how much character matters in that regard.
Consistent top end effort always matters though. |

It has been written multiple times about the quality of the forwards in this draft, but the important point is they can improve the team and the center depth without needing to trade the pick. |

Not entirely true.
The 2014 draft was known as a shallow draft with van underwhelming first round past 10.
The 2015 draft was viewed as a very deep first two rounds and that’s been absolutely true
No one of substance thought A.Nylander would be for sure better than William.
It’s been that our GM’s are awful and either trade picks or pick the wrong guys.
This team, to this day, would be 2x as good if they kept their 2015 first rounders and got guys like Konecny, Boeser etc. and maybe someone like Aho, Dermott, Carlo, Cernak |
