Great thought, but it'll never happen. They'll relocate before they cut. History backs me on this point. - Load Management
Bettman is stuck in his ways, he thinks the need to grow hockey is important and is trying to stay away from traditional hockey markets, in order to grow the game.
To me the key point Lordy brought up were the quality of the remaining teams would increase substantially.
3 quality lines with a decent 4th line of grinders PK guys and each team having solid defense and goaltending would make for a much less watered down league.

Then every league in hockey is watered down.
Every team ever in hockey has had 4th liners that are battling on the fringe. It's in the very nature of the sport. I like watching that part of it, and to me, that's a big part of keeping my interest in the game.
I hate Bettman with the rest of them but this pattern of constant expansion started way before him. It was a 6 team league at one point.

Used to love the Blazers.
Kamloops Blazers!
I recall Scott Neidermeyer and Corey Hirsch ripping it up when i was a kid living there. - dbot
I remember visiting my cousins in Kamloops one Christmas and caught a Blazers/Spokane Chiefs game....
Troy Gamble in net for the Chiefs and Hirsch for Blazers.
My cousin was real good friends with Paul Kruse, Ed Bertuzzi and Daryl Sydor. Phil Huber scored 2 goals in the 1st and the Blazers won 6-5.
The highlight tho was a line brawl where Travis Green beat the snot out of Sydor and my cousin screeching her head off in the stands as Sydor was getting fed....
