The HAWKS goalie prospects are nothing but Lottery tickets and you might want to check the expiration date on a couple .
Askarov will fall into the HAWKS lap at 9th and failure to capitalize on this opportunity will be a colossal mistake that will haunt the organization for years .
Timing is everything in sports. And with the dreadful state of the goalie pipeline in Chicago the timing could not be better for them to grab the best goalie prospect since Cary Price . - oldduffman
And a Russian goalie prospect picked in the #9 selection is the Super Lotto pick, especially when you still have other areas of the club to address. |

You will not find a player with a higher celling at 9th unless other teams go way off the board . In the organization no other positions is as empty of deft prospects as the Goalie are .Time is now . |

He bounced around is an inaccurate adjective. UPDDATE if bounced around implies he is not very good
Subban needed time to develop. He did get necessary time in the AHL.
He has not been ajudged good enough to unseat the incumbent since leaving Beantown. Just needs to play. Has some things to improve on.. Has top level ability but until he puts it all together, you never know if he does if he gets that opportunity.. As s back up his salary is more than Laakinen or Delia
I would like to see Laakinen as back up. I have reservations about Delia style and if he is NHL ready. Would there be much difference in savings to choose Laakinen over Subban.........
Don't know if this is a big issue. I don mind Subban getting the role although he really needs to play as a #1 to develop.....with Jimmy Waite coaching all along.,.....maybe the way this could occur is if Crawford is injured for an extended period - of-time. Totally expect Crawford re- signs. Subban maybe. - jhawk59
I haven't seen him play all that much but the internet says Subban has very good lateral mobility and is an athletic goalie.
Some time with the goalie whisperer to help iron out his angles and net position could make a big difference. Playing in a place where he can get closer to 40 games rather than 20 may be helpful.

I think at 9 you have to pick the best player available regardless of position |

The biggest reason, in a list of many, that I hope the Hawks have the opportunity to draft him and don’t, is to listen to you whine about it for years to come.
Can’t wait. |

Subban and Delia are both 26, Lankanin is 25. - LAHawk
Also, and I am not drawing direct comparisons on talent here, Crawford was 25 when he finally broke through as a starter. Subban is under contract for now. I would hope they at least perform their due diligence on him before firing him into the sun. It's not controversial to say that goalies typically take longer to develop. |

For the Hawks it would be since Jimmy Waite.

So the NHL has eliminated Vancouver as a proposed hub city leaving Edmonton and Toronto as Canadian locations.
NHL thinks the British Columbia health rule requiring a mandatory 14 day quarantine period for covid cases is too strict. Sounds like the province wouldn't bend the rules to accommodate the league.

In other news Friedmann speculating that the cap will remain flat at 81.5M for the next three seasons. - boilermaker100
I fully expected a stagnant cap for the 20/21 season, on the bright side at lease its not decreasing. If the same is to remain static for 3 years I wouldn’t be surprised to see additional measures to help teams manage the cap. Maybe a CBO, maybe designating a franchise player who doesn’t count towards the cap, luxury tax, something we’ve not thought of. |

When looking at these three the Hawks might as well give Subban a try, he might be the best of the lot. I wouldn’t be against the Hawks going outside the organization for goaltending help, but I’d lean more towards somebody like Georgiev vs Murray. |

Not sure how viable a franchise player option is but can you imagine $10.5M to work with assuming Kane is the Blackhawks franchise player.
Or do you think the team would tag Kampf as the franchise player? $1M off the books would do wonders. |

I’m thinking Smith would be the Franchise Player
Ya, not sure how viable any solution could be. It’s equally possible that nothing is offered to help the clubs. |

That won't work which means they have to do something. It won't be CBO with depressed funds either. |

Great point you bring up chunk. Subban never got a opportunity after being traded to earn the teams confidence or to at least change any minds for his next contract.

Tonite was supposed to be the first round of the entry draft - now it’s only the lottery drawing - and we have no idea how that will affect the Blackhawks.
Next Wednesday was supposed to be Fee Agent Day - now it’s only Canada Day (unless that’s been postponed, too). I’ll be out there watching the parade, waiting for the fireworks, waving the red and white maple leaf...in Glenview. |

I didn't know it was tonigh Thanks for the mention. I read the highlight it's for the 7 teams only who didn't make the playoffs ? Wow chicago would at this point have been better off being a lottery draft pick.
As.much as some want to see the playoffs and even see chicago get lucky due to this pandemic, I just think at this point and with no real certainty how all this plays out . The nhl should have scrapped its season entirely and worked to ensure next seasons plans , draft , salary cap act are nailed down .

wow..so if the Blackhawks lose in the play in they have a one in eight chance to get the number one pick....lose baby,
The hawks may pick 16, 17, 10, or #1...
The craziest thing is that they made that play in losers are equal idea....if they had just decided that the losing teams would FILL THE SPOTS that the balls actually came from (so that the team with the correct percentage just got that lottery ball pick)that there wasn’t that equal idea, but now a team like Montreal or Winnipeg or Pittsburgh or Carolina could get this top player... |

Cant believe this format. Terrible.
Habs beat Pens....Pens could get 1st overall. Bad method of doing draft. No team in the top half should have that opportunity....
Hawks were better off not even part of this play-in thing.
(Unless, of course they lose to Oil....then luck out and win the #1 overall...) |
