I love the debate of a draft pick verses an established player. You are comparing the known entity of a player verses the unknown entity of a (?) To say that Lou over paid for Green and Pageau is not a fair assessment. You are talking about players that were intended to help your playoff drive now. I also love how everyone states that Pageau is a bottom 6 guy. I think he has the tools to be a top 6 six forward. When it comes to draws no one on this team is better. He can play the pp and pk. This guy gives you a lot of options. Green is a solid veteran.

Ben I can appreciate your analysis but I have to disagree with you here.

acquiring Greene to fill in for the injured Pelech was a no brainer, and he'll be gone at the end of the season as the Islanders need the cap space to sign their expiring contracts, and possibly Sorokin.

The Pageau trade wasn't so good, and they gave up way too much to get him.
he also takes up a roster spot the Islanders need open to start moving in younger players and give them a real shot to succeed. Pageaus' contract also complicates their cap situation in 2021-2022 when they will be trying to retain Beuvillier, Pelech and Cizikas while still carrying the anchor contracts of Boychuk, Leddy, Komarov and Ladd.
They would have been better off waiting to see if Ladd would be effective (I think he will be), or bring up a young player long term.

Lou was ready to let Lee go to get a big name forward in Panarin, but now he has locked himself out of the big name free agent market for the next 3 years.

So... We have a chance at getting first overall. I’m now good with Kuhnackl and Johnston playing with Barzal. Do your thing Trotz. Any chance Pelech may not be 100%? Hopefully these guys are in really bad shape.

Yea we all know the isles could win a round and then get killed by Tampa so they will of course win the first round. The rangers will lose and then win the lotto

Yep. Just look at the cap situation. They are maxed out. After waving bye bye to Griess, Martin, Green, Kuhnhackl and Brassard, they'll have the room to sign Barzal, Polock and Toews. Sorokin may get tricky.

If the Isles can't dump some big money contracts before 2022, they have no hope of retaining Beauvillier or Pelech. Bellows, Koivula, Dal Colle and Cizikas will also be on the block.

I would rather the Islanders didn't sell the future in the hope they could raise the cup this year. I just don't think Pags gets them there.
