Sorry, no risk no reward. I'm not going to cheer for them to lose the play in, hell there's a good chance I hardly watch it. I mean it is summer.
Lafreniere was top 10 in scoring for the Q as a rookie. This kid is legit, averaging well over 2ppg this season. - golfingsince
Don’t get me wrong, I would love to be adding a player like that, but I would rather win the play-in, see what they can do in the thingy and give up the 1/8 chance at the first overall. We all know it will be the Oilers who win it anyway. |

What Yorkie said.
Those initial 11 are all likely recovered by now, but I just don’t believe that you can have 8 teams (12 actually) in a bubble, that’s over 300 players per bubble, and nobody is going to go out for drinks and try to score a little something something.
15 current cases shows that guys (men in general) are careless. - 1970vintage
Players are now advised to isolate so July 10 th they want everyone to enter a bubble.

Well i hope things continue to trend in the right direction for ya'll.
Whatever happened to the 2nd wave from the protests? - dbot
As Morningwood said, not much. I guess when you have very few cases, gatherings don’t do much damage...? |

Some older MLB players have said no thanks they are not returning. I expect a few NHL players will do the same. |

Disagree on 2 fronts.
I think bubbles could totally work with professional oversight, especially when millions of dollars is on the line.
It's not a sure thing, but I think it could be done.
I also don't think that the 15 cases are indicative of carelessness necessarily. People can be very safe and still catch this bug in the community. - dbot
I just think the odds of someone along the line contracting it is super high.
There's what, 24 teams? 30 players a team is 720 people already. Add coaches, trainers, medical personnel, managers. Then add the crews for the stadiums, the security, the hotel people, the food people, the cleaners, the drivers... That's just a LOT of people to oversee and make sure things go perfectly.
Are the non-NHL staff isolating during this time? What about their family? Add in the stupidity of some hockey players, and that looks even more bleak. |

Which is why the theory of having a bubble for the NHL is going ahead.
Quarantine to start.
Test everyone before letting them in.
Keep everyone in a bubble and play the games.
Re test as required to ensure safety.
It's not fool proof though.

You've pretty much made light of this virus since the start, so I take your point of view with a truck load of salt. |

Hey man, just responding to the article you posted, which some might call cherry picking itself.
I said most people recover (which i think is true) and in response to your repetitive 'just power through' comment.
Here in NZ they've done a good job of managing the virus with testing, isolating and quarantine, which has allowed things to open up again. I think that this could be replicated for the NHL.
You don't have to listen to my p.o.v., it's cool. But as a front line health worker, i've been mandated to work through this whole thing, had to gear up with PPE to see people in the community, police cells and hospitals and also come home to parent.
So. i've taken in seriously.

More than 10% of the projected playoff cohort test positive. No chance the virus gets into the bubble... - 1970vintage

Turns out it’s only 10% of tests, not the cohort. Still, just shows they will have trouble keeping it out of the locker room. |

New Zealand did a fantastic job but certainly has a geographical advantage.
The NHL is situated in North America where above the 49th parallel, has done reasonably well, while below that line it is an unmitigated horror show.
I have almost zero faith it will be kept out of the NHL 'bubbles' no matter the efforts.

That’s my supposition. There are so many variables right now that I feel like next years team won’t be as good as this years team even with the growth of EP & QH. I mean, it could totally be the opposite if they manage to move out bad contracts, sign their key UFA’s, upgrade the D. I just feel like it will be hard to do that, with an eye on the following year when the two stars will need new contracts. - 1970vintage
Oh yeah, there’s issues that’s for sure. I think they are a playoff team next year. Tanev and marky will be back. Dead weight will be cut. |

I hope that’s true, but I don’t trust Benning to get it done. Perhaps the guy they hired recently (AGM) is the guy to help navigate this better. |
