Last year he went on a tear in the second half, he’s been nothing specials this year.

I'd argue that he's been much more effective this season, despite scoring fewer goals.

He's been MUCH better defensively and surprisingly involved without the puck. I don't know if it's AV or what, but the guy must have flipped a switch last summer.

And he's still putting up decent points despite lower-quality linemates and less offensive zone time. Pretty happy with him overall.

Still would probably use the compliance on him, tho.

Tough to say when the team as a whole has done a complete 180, clearly what AV is preaching is working. He for sure hasn’t been bad. I couldn’t tell you who his most common line mates are but I feel like he plays on the third mostly this year.

I totally agree. He is a much better hockey player this year all around as is Voracek. AV has gotten buy in. No more cheating the zone on breakouts. Consistent pressure on the back check and good puck decisions. My picking him for a hypothetical compliance buyout is not because I don't think he is a good player. I just think they have cheaper potential in the pipeline to replace him and cap space is going to be at a premium. A team with flexibility is going to be in a good place. Might be a buyers market in the future.

So he’s having his best couple years right now, when healthy?

My point is his production is right where it should be. I don’t know why someone would expect 40 goals when never reached that in his career. One may argue with what he is being paid. But I don’t think you can argue with JVR’s production. It is what it’s always been and slightly better.

The Moody Blues are a severely underrated band. That is all.

JvR had 36 goals in his last season as a Leaf. He’s a goal scorer. If jvr sees consistent time with top 6 talent, who knows what he can do. The problem now is that he hasn’t and he’s now entering his 30’s.

His 36-goal season came in a third-line role at 5-on-5 plus PP1 time. That's his sweet spot. He gets a little easier matchups at even strength and gets to take advantage of his strengths on the power play. Actually, his best offensive groove this season with the Flyers came while he was on the 3rd line.

I don’t know too many third line players who put up 36 goals. If anything, what’s hurt JvR is in inability to score on the PP.
