Not really, Jost has about the same ppg as mittelstadt. He's 2 years younger than Reinhart, who at Jost's age netted 25 goals. Nothing about his on ice impact is particularly impressive except he's above team average in his defensive play.
If the swap was Casey and Jost that's one thing, but whatever first round value he once had has quickly evaporated. - Michael Ghofrani what.
What?
You are mixing Reinhart and Mitts into the argument simultaneously. Very confusing to understand whT point you are making...maybe it's me on The 4th, lol!
Fancy stats aside, Jost has produce 25 points per year in 2-1/2 seasons worth of games. That is simply Mitts level..i.e. AhL / 4th Line Nhl tweener in counting stats.
I could give a rats ass about superb advanced stats for a 4th liner.
Rienhart produces in 1 year roughly what Jost is producing in 200 games. I could give a poop about /60 metrics when you are talking about 4th line production.
Sorry Mike, crap + crap + promise doesnt equate to real life production in my book anyway.

The way you worded the last sentence had me thinking you meant that the Sabres would need to add mittelstadt on top of whatever reinhart deal was there in order to get them to add jost.
I don't think Jost is anything special at the moment, that's what i was trying to say.

Well I hope some GM will bite on Rhino and a 2C, because I have been trying to work on a deal for a 2C with other posters and the best I got was Tierney and a pick or prospect. I hope Rhino can pull some decent players, we shall see. - Buff36
Half of HB wouldn't trade Asplund for McDavid, lol.
There is a rwason we are all on HB and not sitting in a GM's office...well except for Kerry and Tim anyway.
He's a 1st line RW people are trying to swindle him like he was a 3rd line LW.
Generally, C, RhD, G, RW, LhD and finally LW is how overall I would prioritize the positions based on capabity/availability...then further stratisfy by lines / pairings.
Actually, Gohfrani should do a blog on prioritizing a roster build based on above, and spreading the Cap accordingly...$81.5m is going to be relevant for the next 3 seasons and the Sabres are in the midst of a rebuild..it is the most relevant topic to date...IMO of course

My bad, me too.
Sorry for being offesjve...the Bourbon is kicking on.
What do you think about my suggestion in the last part of the post above.
You would be excellent at puting this together. |

All good, could use some too tbh.
I've been wanting to do a build for a while now, been waiting on details from the cba so know what to explore. For example, I think the new rule on 35+ contracts can be advantageous for the Sabres.
Only thing is, the actual off-season being so far away we lack the concrete (or even flimsy) rumours that help us select realistic targets.
Truth is it's hard to pin point. Before the shut down I was told Monahan is likely on his way out. Now Im told none of the deals make sense and they may just hang on to him.
I think most armchair gm lineups are in limbo because well...the actual teams are too. |

Was looking over that Colorado trade for Rhino, what if Alex Newhook was added to the offer. Still probably not enough with Jost and Zadarov but would make it more interesting. - Buff36
I like newhook and jost. I wanted the sabres to move back in the 1st for newhook, and wanted Jost or serghachev when the sabres took Nylander.
But this offer makes us worse now, we need to acquire talent, not futures. |

I understand that, Newhook is almost ready, could be here next year, it is becoming increasingly harder to talk with people about deals because of what's going on right know. |

I was talking with posters on the Ottawa sight trying to see what they are willing to do, they are pretty loaded with picks and prospects. Wanted to see what they would be willing to move for the 8th. Tried
Logan Brown
Batherson
33rd pick for the 8th.
Thought it was a decent offering. But most said they wouldn't move Batherson for the 8th let alone Logan Brown. Maybe I overvalued the 8th pick. |

I hear ya Boss, we do think much differently on many things, but some valid points.
But in rebuttal:
Not all 1st are alike; 16th versus 2nd-OA, currently producing as a 4th line versus producing as a 1st. Sure, there are years apart, but Jost is unfulfilled promise, while Sam is delivering.
If Jost us so promissing. And good enough to be put into 2C on Sabres...after all, that is THE primary objective of the trade; then he should be able to slide into that 2C position in Colorado...the team that drafted him.
Kadri, while older plays the physical style you love, and is better than Jost..especially the next 2 years to bridge Cozens and be a mentor for him. Jost is still trying to figure it out.
Budget comes into play with Big Z, Sabres have Miller at $3.8m...Big Z at $3.2m+ makes for a $7m 3rd pairing...about 2x what it should be. In a flat Cap era for 3 years, simply cannot have it. It limits other opportunities unnessecarily.
If you want D, then demand DeMelo to play along side Dahlin.
We agree on Newhouse, was a good find by 36. He could be a great add when Kadri leither moves on or descends to 3C territory. - IonSabres
Good stuff ion
Only thing I really disagree with is :
Jost pushing kadri for the 2c behind MacKinnon
It's kinda a product of who's playing in front of the said player. Cant knock Stahl's play behind malkin and Crosby a few years back.
Eventually they either trade the 2c to make room or trade the 3c who cant unseat the 2c
After watching the Carolina re runs from 2006. The Sabres had 16 good forwards. No eichel type.
We need 16 solid forwards, jost could be one if them.
My fear is overpaying sam , past when eichel is here.
Skins and sam cash in $ on eichels work.
Regardless, good post. ๐

Happy 4th to all! Will be strange with no city festival & fireworks. Hopefully the neighborhood fireworks show will be decent this year.

Him and Knox could make a nice little tandem. Unfortunately with reworking Kroft's contract cost like 5mill in dead cap space this year to cut him, so maybe get rid of Smith and Croom |

At least my somewhere not too far away neighbor comes through with his annual fireworks display ๐. I should go find the launch site and bring that guy some beer. He must spend a frigging fortune at the fireworks store. |

You think the new 35+ rule can be taken advantage of by the Sabres by offering more money later in the contract for a veteran player, past the age of 35, to entice them to sign with the Sabres, without fear of the player retiring and the team having that contract count against the cap? |
