Dubas didn’t squeeze any savings outta AM JT & MM. He did get some on Nylander Kapanen & Johnsson. Ceci yuck. - Nighthawk
That was strictly a get rid of zaitsev and his anchor of a contract for 1 year of Ceci.
I do that move again. They gave up brown who was good player but he was making 2.1 million playing 3/4th Line. Had to make some deals to get $ off the books for the future.

The Leafs “cap problems” are a completely overblown fable parroted by fans of have-not teams from have-not cities who collect rent weekly from Toronto and Dubas personally for the space they occupy in their otherwise vacuous heads.
The Leafs overpaid 3 of their young star players by a million or two each. The “overpayments” on the entirety of the rest of the 23 man roster total another 2 or 3 mln tops. There is not a single albatross contract on the entire roster. Zero deadweight. They also have players who are grossly underpaid for what they bring to the table, some of whom are absolute undeniable steals.
They are also one of the most profitable sports franchises in North America and will spare no expense in utilizing every cap loophole possible to maximize the available purse in crafting a team, a wet dream for the majority of NHL GM’s (including Winnipeg’s pissant operation). This team is spending to the cap ceiling, every year, no matter what. Gonna cry? - poopstash
Man, that poor Jet fan's dictionary just got a workout.

Frankly, the only contract that I think was an overpay was Mitch Marner's. Perhaps by 1M (give or take a few hundo). Meh... in a few years this deal might not look so bad if he keeps on a 90-100pt clip.
Snakevares didn't take much of a discount but anyone who thinks he's overpaid is a disingenuous dink.
Katya, of Pension Plan Puppets, wrote a great article on AM34's contract and I have to agree with her assessment: he didn't take a home town discount but it IS a team friendly deal - despite what the haters will want to tell you.
Willie? Looks like his deal is, at worst, bang on the money and, at best, a steal.
Leafs are doing fine and they'll figure out how to navigate the cap in creative ways. Dubas wasn't supposed to be able to sign the Big 4... and yet, he did. - mjones242
Or Dubas could be like Cool Chevy and just watch the crew leave town when it's time to re-up

Excellent post, and spot on. How good is it to hear a Jets fan claiming the Leafs are in cap hell.

This is so crazy.
Idk why he chose IG, it almost feels like a bad joke. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Yeah, I honestly didn't know if it was real at first or if his instagram got hacked. I was really hoping for hacked, since I'd obviously rather a 1 month old not be taken.
