Have heard of Monti's but never been. Johnnie's (Elmwood Park or Arlington Hts) is still the best no matter what Elbows says...or among the best. Al's is good too.
For dogs I still like Portillo's though Hot Doug's was excellent when that was still around. - HawkintheD
Back in the 80's and 90's, Luke's in the northwest suburbs had fantastic beef sammiches and a huge bag of the best fries. |

That's a problem. To me the problem is we only have two parties and most of us don't fit so neatly into a box where either really represents the majority of us.
A lot of people seem to identify with one side or the other so heavily where it's like rooting for your favorite sports team and whatever your team espouses is right...JMO. - HawkintheD
First thing - get rid of the primaries, go back to the smoke filled rooms - they more reliably chose at least decent candidates in both parties.
I’m only about half facetious in that.
But we should try to realign both parties - more so Republicans, but the Democrats also - into center-right and center-left organizations - with individuals moving back and forth over the center depending on the issue.
Democracies work best when the center holds. |

Just a plain old dog at Hot Dougs?
Superdawgs on Devon and Milwaukee is probably THE typical Chicago dog - although you get food and a show at Weiner’s Circle (and a good Polish, too)....

Yeah, I never got too experimental, just a dog dragged through the garden. He definitely had some interesting offerings.
I know Superdawgs has a good rep but never been. That is one thing I have not seen up here is a Maxwell St. Polish. I can get a beef sandwich now (Matt and Mo's), make my own Chicago Dog but that's something no one really does up here...or Italian Sausage sandwiches.
It was rumored a Portillo's was supposed to go in up here, though I'm sure that's likely on hold with everything going on. |

And still the political commentary continues unabated, albeit with the most recent posts having a pseudo conciliatory tone. How did I ever get along before I was introduced to the riveting political wisdom expressed on this hockey blog. I'm sure my heart has been changed for the better because of it. |

but Weiner's Circle is a char dog...it was 3 blocks from my house. My wife and I took our son in law the actor there (before he was our son in law) and the staff was in the midsts of insulting guy who had no idea it was a place 4 fleeter words were hurled at you with insults on your person...anyway, the staff sees him, and starts yelling he lookalike the mother(frank)er fromAmerican Pie!
and I got to say, "He is the MF from American Pie!"
They left us alone on the outside bench just watching and later asking him to autograph cardboard French frie "bowls." |

But I like char-dogs.
The best steamed dogs were at Cubs Park - served on a steamed bun with mustard (not dragged through the garden) - plus the $.10 scorecard with the Humpty Dumpty on the back page hawking the food / drinks you could get (I never liked the Smoky Links).
You don’t need all of the variety and “gourmet” stuff you can get at ball parks now - just a plain old hot dog with yellow mustard.
I don’t know what they’re like now.... |

Superdawg is definitely worth the trip. There’s one in Wheeling now too, right next to Bob Chinn’s. Best french fries, thick & crinkle cut. Plus, Vienna custom makes the dogs.
Portillo’s sold part of the company to an restaurant company a few years ago. There’s at least one I’ve been to in the western burbs of Milwaukee, they were opening one on Champaign, and I know they’re in Arizona. |

The family got $1 billion for the company, IIRC. |

I would if I thought Tyler was serious about holding people responsible for breaking the rules, but so far he has shown he will not hold people responsible for inappropriate comments. His gentle "knock it off" rebukes have proven to be ineffective and at this point the conclusion I draw is that he is either unwilling or unable to hold people to account - OR - I'm wrong for thinking "political commentary is inappropriate" actually means "political commentary is inappropriate" - silly me. Maybe there is something in the bylaws of hockeybuzz that sets that rule but it is up to the blogger of each individual site to choose whether or not to enforce it - I don't know. But I do know that the rule isn't being enforced and I'm in the minority (by far) of posters who seem to care. At some point I will reluctantly realize this place isn't for me and possibly that will make the place better for those who don't concern themselves with following rules.
I asked another poster to reconsider his decision to leave until after the November election and stated that when those who follow the rules quit the game, then those who don't follow the rules win. That maxim presupposes that the moderator and majority of posters want the rules to be followed. Maybe that was my mistake. |

You need to at least stick around to see this thing through where the Hawks draft Lafreniere.
If you leave before then and the Hawks don't somehow get the #1 pick, I'm totally blaming you...for whatever that's worth. |

Instead of myriad posts complaining about what gets posted here, why not post something about hockey, or food, or first jobs, or something that takes the board in a direction you’d like to see it go? |

Yeah, remember seeing that a few years back and like Sage mentioned, Richard Portillo got a billion dollars for the company.
I'd have to think, like you mention, that anyone paying that much would likely want to expand beyond IL.
Edit - Hilarious...foiled by auto expletive correct |

Years ago here, I tried a post about Diickie Simpkins - I corrected the “Richardie Simpkins” several times before realizing what was going on.... |

I did post a comment about hockey just a little bit ago, although I can understand that it could easily have been missed among all the non-hockey comments.
I'm tempted (not really) to jump in the revelry of flaunting rules - it's got to be cathartic to throw off the yoke of having to follow someone else's rules - right? Be my own source of reality - follow no rules except those I agree with. Well in that vein I say why stop with political commentary - why not religious commentary and how about a discussion of origins and how about an indepth discussion of psychological pathologies.
Just imagine how freeing it would be to let it all hang out ... course that could only work if everyone was free to say whatever they truly believed, unencumbered by PC speak ... oh dear ... that would probably require a rule allowing politically incorrect speech which is one of the only rules that the "no rules" crowd demand. It's a conundrum. |

Hockeybuzz inbox? We social butterflies just keep collecting, but there's a limit. New messages start to kick out old ones. I haven't found a delete button yet. I'm not tech savvy. |
