Sounds like Gallant didnt want the job and Lavy "priced himself out of the job"

I'm gonna say ownership had a big involvement in this hiring
- vlongo4419

This is the logical outcome when we have ownership and an interim GM doing the coaching search. Lavy and Gallant probably thought the organization was a joke.

Why would Gallant want to be involved in this poopshow when he's basically guaranteed a job with Seattle whenever that happens. Lav will get a real coaching gig next season too. Owners really showing themselves for the farce they really are.

Gallant especially. With how he got fired from his last two jobs, the first thing he is probably looking for is stability and not have higher ups meddling in how he runs his team. We probably looked less appealing than taking an AHL job to him.

The usual rumor accounts on twitter saying Gallant took a pass and the price on Lavy was around $5 million a year. There's your reason for Ruff.

The organization is a joke. You have a young team with very few viable defensemen and you go out and hire an assistant from a team who over the past 3 years was 29th in even strength shot attempts against and 31st in expected goals against? This team is going to give up 50 shots and 4 goals a game whenever they play again, but at least whenever they open Pru Center again the owners can make that Disney on Ice and Taylor Swift concert cash.

One thing some are overlooking is that either Fitz has no power or he's responsible for this hire. Both those options suck. Doomed.

Allegedly Gallant didn't want the job and Lav wanted $5 mil, which was too much. Just saw it somewhere on Twitter so could be bs but I'd believe it.

I get if they didn’t want the job or priced themselves out. But why the hell recycle all these same coaches. I mean come on he’s coached like 2 good teams in his career And one of those teams was carried by Hasek. What could he possibly offer NJ? His defense in NY is garbage, His last high prospect With the stars bolted to Russia. He’s alright now in Colorado but he did not want to play for Ruff.

At that point give the job to Nas or some outsider. These 4 coaches could not have been your only options. He’ll you might as well have called Mike Keenan to see what he’s up to. I’m glad Fitz got to keep the job but this hire is frustrating. Hopefully I’m wrong.

....cant put a price on coaching a winning team, right?
I was starting to not care so much about sports.. I have my own life.. Etc etc. But this is just disrespect to the fans. I think the idiots hired Fitz because they knew he'd do whatever they want. They hired Ruff cuz he came cheap. And now we're a Mickey Mouse organization. What a waste.

Look at the Islanders. They spend big money to get Trotz and they take a roster that is really low on overall talent and he makes them a playoff team. Sad that our cheap owners don't see this.

As I said, along with many others, Gallant did not want to come to this tire fire organization. Lavy saw the same and said if you give me enough money I will pinch my nose and coach for you. Both would have been mistakes with that attitude. This does not condone the Ruff hire, I think it was a brutal choice, one where Fitz hired a friend. My prediction is both will be gone by the end of next year - a year that will be a waste anyway, so while upset with the Ruff hiring and Fitz doing it, the stench will not last long. Shame, I had hopes for Fitz and this just shredded them.

Can we get Oats and Stevens back as co-coaches please?
Who thought that would one day be a good memory?

I advocated for an NHL established coach for this team but if you are looking at Ruff, I'd rather just find another rookie coach. There has to be some good AHL coaches...

JUST AWFUL. AWFUL.

I want to throw up with this awful news! Perhaps I will become a Seattle fan? They’ll be contenders long before the Devils ever will be.

"Ruff is the lone holdover from the Vigneault regime. He’s responsible for managing the defense and it’s in that role that he takes the most heat. He absorbs the blame for the Rangers allowing the ninth most goals per game in the NHL to go with the ninth worst penalty kill. The Rangers bleed shots and display a disturbing lack of structure in their own zone.

Rejoice Blueshirts fans! Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet tweeted that Ruff is a candidate for the open coaching job in New Jersey."

Thats what they are saying on the Rangers fansided website, there laughing at us.
