With Robertson on the way, it makes trading Nylander easier. Who else is better to play with as a rookie than with Tavares? Put Mikheyev on the other side and there’s your second line. Just need a two-way center who kills penalties to play in between Johnsson and Kapanen and you have your shutdown line.
BOONE JENNER 👍
Parayko fills one of the two spots in the top-4. You can give Rielly a proper partner, or have Parayko and Muzzin make a bruising shutdown pair. Does Dermott make the top-4, keep Holl with Muzzin, or do you go out and find someone else? Pesce?
A top-4 of Rielly-Pesce and Muzzin-Parayko. Yes please. - Steven_Seagull

Snakevares > Grioux
Oh, wrong thread. - GreatGigInTheSky
They're both pretty great.
Considering Snakevares is 3 years younger, I don't think there's any question who I'd take.
Giroux's contract is nicer though. |

TSN 1050 talking trading Nylander rn..
I’ll summarize.
Shilton: Leafs don’t have good enough defence. Too much $ invested in forwards. Dubas plan isn’t working. Gotta move someone for defensive help. Can’t sign a coveted FA. Young defence needs help. Defence was good enough for Marlies, but not the NHL. They are not getting out from cap crunch.
Cauz: The cap isn’t going up. Liljegren, Sandin, Holl, Lehtonen aren’t good enough yet. - Arctic_AARDVARK
If Pietrangelo is willing to sign here for a reasonable deal(yes if) let’s say he is willing to take a long term deal knowing this pandemic will put a decent dent in it...and he did say to PL that he values planting his roots somewhere.let’s say 7x7.5
And if it means sending Nylander to another team it better be a big haul.
I’m talking CBJ sending the Leafs Josh Anderson and a grade A prospect and another pick.

A few things:
1. Nylander is a RW and Robertson is a LW. If anything, Robertson playing on a line with Nylander would be aces.
2. Johnsson needs to go. Robertson can take his Top 6 spot.
3. Nylander is one of the best contracts we have. We don't need to trade him and we can do any number of deals to bring in a Top 4 RHD without having to trade him.
4. Dermott should be part of any package that brings back a legit Top 4 RHD. I'd be happy with Risto, Parayko, or Pesce... yes, in that order. |

Nylander was on the LW for most of the season... plus Mikheyev can play other side. |

I’m not ready to give up on Johnsson yet. Kappy might be the play here.
Nylander would get them a player in return they actually need. Dermott is expendable imo.

The only way the Leafs are trading Nylander is if a D comes in in a solid contract and a team gives up a cheaper young forward plus some other high end value.
If the stars align then great. I doubt they will though. |

With how Kapanen played the last month, I don’t want him traded at all now. |

Kadri spent less than 8 minutes total on the PK for the Avs this year, and less than a minute in each of his last two seasons with the Leafs. The most he ever played was 12:27 in total in 73 games back in the 2014-2015 season... |

Johnsson is the guy to trade, but I don't imagine much of a market there right now.

Has he? I know he has played a number of games here and there on LW but I would be shocked if he played "most of the season" on LW. He's most definitely played the majority of the past 10-20 games on the right side.
Even if he did: he's a natural RW.
The jury is still out on Mikheyev but pretty sure they would want to keep him on the left side. |

Agreed. Nylander isn't getting traded for anything but a stud defender. Pretty sure Dubas keeps his word to Willie. |

We don't have the cap space to do a Nylander for Pesce swap.
We have to save room to sign Hamilton, Svechnikov and Necas.

Off-loading his 3.4M contract for a bag of pucks sounds like the right move. |

Trade Mitch Marner for Jonas Brodin, Eric Staal, and picks
Use those picks and cap savings to find another RHD, either via trade or free agency (Like Sami Vatanen or Chris Tanev or something)
Get some better offensive punch for your depth and a great defense first guy who can skate the puck out of trouble. |

So how does this effect a Petro contract...the 8.5 mil long term has to be out the window.
It’s either short term and cash in or long term and get security. |
