Yes but seriously keep Nylander trade Marner.
Willy is a way better value contract. - BINGO!
Trading Marner frees up more cap space and will likely net a better return. |

I actually agree.
The only way I see Nylander getting traded is of Petro comes in on a long term deal. With a potential flat cap for a while...7x7-7.5?
Then Nylander would have to go for a huge package.
Josh Anderson, 1st round pick, Gabriel Carlson
Give Anderson a 3x4
I’d also try and find a better 3C
Hyman-Matthews-Anderson
Mikheyev-JT-Marner
Johnnson-?-Kap
Barbaronov-?-?
Rielly-Petro

If the cap is staying flat they need to keep any money aside for Rielly and a goalie AND they need to hope all the young defensemen pan out or the forwards grow up and find their own end of the ice once in a while. - Aetherial
Those are future problems that will no doubt be navigated. Who knows what may happen a couple of seasons from now? We can worry about re-upping Rielly in a couple of years (or maybe we don't?). I'm not too concerned about losing Andy.
I maintain that the Leafs could lock up Petro for 8M without having to dump Willie or any of the core 4.
There's lots of pieces that aren't going to be re-signed. There are lots of lesser pieces (Johnsson and Kerfoot) that can be off-loaded. There are lots of up-and-coming players that can restock the bottom - and possibly top - 6 (e.g. Robertson).

Agreed on the part that they won't worry about Rielly yet. He's 2+ yrs away. You plan for him but you don't worry yet. And Anderson hasn't shown he really deserves much of a raise next summer. His 5 million can be used to re-sign him or someone else.
I don't see how AP happens though. AJ and AK free's up 6.9 but with other spots to fill AP would have to come really cheap (like less than 6.5) to make that work.
If AP wanted to come to TO and the Leafs wanted it to happen I think it'd have to be Kerfoot and Willie traded for some good young affordable forwards. That'd fill the roster and free up enough space to fill those spots and sign AP at 8+.
I think more likely ....Leafs deal a Kerfoot or Johnsson or Kapanen for picks/youth in the "offseason" and fill that spot with Robertson or Engvall. Then roll into the season and give the young D a chance to surprise ....then add a Dman at the trade deadline. |

The only way I see AP coming to Toronto is on a two year deal due to COVID-19, and even then I'm wishing more than actually suggesting it will happen. |

If Marner gets traded he has no one but himself to blame for becoming a cap casualty.
If he had been willing to take a little less than the absolute maximum he could extort, or heaven forbid a modest hometown discount (something competing teams in the Atlantic have been able to convince their star players to do), we’re not even having this discussion.
This is the bed he made. |

It’s not nonsense
Marner had the chance to become the fan favourite by taking a hometown discount
Instead he became public enemy #1

Marner for Jones - mr.sir
Marner took more of a discount with his 6y and lower AAV compared to Matthews - and somehow he's the one that is 'public enemy #1'?
So far, Marner has proven to be more effective and more valuable than Matthews - who is lagging behind in his development, and should really focus on becomign valuable in the d-zone as well.
Marner is the most important asset on this team - Tavares #2, Rielly #3, Matthews #4, Anderssen #5, and Hyman #6. |
