I agree and my opinion is that that's how teams with good to very good prospects move the vets out for youth. The value that a veteran player vs. the value of production from ELC player. Makes for tough decisions and patience at the same time. If you move out a Vet you have to accept that there will be peaks and valleys with the ELC player. - Nucknab23
Agree 100% & why our prospects looks to be very solid but is an ongoing way of the cap world. Keep drafting pieces that can develop into NHLers has been a strength fir JB. That in the end is why he is still here & will remain here if it continues. AGM Chris Gear can help & do do signings etc. On trades & UFA’s they are important but secondary to drafting/developing. |

Canucks have three Dmen that are ready to take a look at the NHL . Problem is finding a spot for them.
Rafferty was the leading scorer in D last year his first AHL season
Briesbois has seen action already
OJ is very close . With the proper partner he could take a shot and see if he is ready. - VANTEL
LHD is solid RHD not so much yet. JB could promote ELC’s easy enough but runs the risk of too many too fast if they don’t adjust well or takes time. If for cap reasons then so be it & another phase of building a contender whether it’s a step back or not.
The Donald tweet you referred to was it about Bubba Wallace? |

A pretty solid take but also refers to many teams in the same boat or worse off. Many are the better teams in the league. Very few teams are positioned well to take advantage during these times. Arizona for one is in cap trouble. Ironic a bottom feeder that sucks money from the league. Teams like the Sens & Habs sit pretty. - Nighthawk
Sure, but I don't particularly care about other teams cap issues unless we can take advantage of them. |

Rafferty - Does/can he bring more than Stecher does now?
Briesbois -Can he be better than Benn or Fantenberg
OJ is very close, but as you said who can help shelter him? Myers?
These are 3 examples of very tough decisions.
With the D it has to be better than where we were 18-19.
I rewatched the Colorado game that was on Sunday night from 2 seasons ago.
The D was (Hutton, Pouliot, Del Zotto, Stecher, Gudbranson, and Tanev) it's definitely an improvement. |

I think Rous would still be wanted by a team. He only makes 3 mil and is the "sandpaper" teams like.
Sutter is moveable. Higher cap hit, but JB has said he's had inquiries on him. 1 year left at just over 4. Could package him plus a C+ prospect for a 3rd or 4th.
Benn is harder to sell, but also a lower cap hit so that makes it slightly easier to move.
Again, I don't think it's ideal, but there are moves to be made that don't kill the team or its future. And, while the cap isn't going up, it's the same as last year so it's not like everyone is in a world of hurt because it dropped a ton. - NewYorkNuck
I don't believe Benning said he could move Sutter for assets, he might of gotten offers a couple of years ago but this is a new environment. Why would any team pay for bottom 6 players on expensive contracts when they can likely pick up equivalent players for league min this offseason?
I think we will see a lot of picks and prospects being moved to clear cap as well as standard buyouts. There are only a few teams who have a excess of cap space and we've seen prior to this that those teams can cash in on it.

I want to see Rafferty but I have doubts he becomes more than Hutton. Rathbone is the most interesting D prospect, especially considering the Harvard news. |

Like all rookies there will be mistakes . The more games the better they will get.
Benn and Fatty had issues last year also so it is a wash. Briesbois has put in the time and he has made steps . I think you need to give him a look.
Stecher and Rafferty would be a wash at this point but the long run I give the advantage to Rafferty.
You can't bring two rookies on the back end IMO . I say bring Briesbois in first and then later look at Rafferty and move Stecher at TDL.

I'd love for them to make the playoffs for guys like Horvat, Miller, Pettersson and Markstrom, but at the end of the day, the kids Benning and company drafted, the most important core players, are all very young still.
Pettersson - 21
Hughes - 20
Boeser - 23
Virtanen - 23
Gaudette - 23
Demko - 24
Dipietro - 21
Horvat - 25 (just turned a few months ago)
Miller is 27 so he's not young but he's not old either, these guys along with MAYBE Podkolzin and that Swedish kid with the huge legs are the future of the club. - Pacificgem
Since this is the second time ive seen this, I will remind you guys: Podz is signed through next season. I sincerely doubt he is going to reneg on his contract. He is available next season. |

The new CBA news also states that anyone signed now will burn a year of ELC. I think once the CBA is signed and approved you will see a Rathbone signing.

For all the stupidity wrapped up in one man/GM, he's done one of the GM jobs extremely well, and that's draft better than most clubs in the entire NHL. Now they just need someone in there that's better at more facets of the job.
Did you see that giant grouper some NFL guy caught near Jupiter Florida....holy crap it was 400lbs. - Pacificgem
Was there a better trade in the entire NHL than the JT Miller trade last summer? |

His contract ends May 1 . NHL will not be finished by then if they start in January.

May 1st 2021. He is signed for one more year. He was never and option for next year, let alone this year. https://www.traderumours.com/index.php?blog=10535 |

Signed through the next KHL season, which is starting soon. They normally end around May.
If the NHL goes as planned, they'll start back up in January or so. That means a few months into the season, he could be ready to come over. |

How did you guys get to next summer before the season ends and when next begins?! there's so many moving parts between here and there it's literally impossible to know if may 1st will be when playing or not. |

It's new, but it's not drastically new. The cap is the exact same.
And a team could potentially want a veteran, bottom 6 forward that's defensively responsible for the same reasons the Canucks brought in Beags: stability. Someone said earlier he's learned a ton from Sutter. He's a well respected guy – one of those guys that GMs seem to love for whatever reasons we fans don't.
And I don't think you'll get a guy like Sutter for league minimum. Maybe a guy who has bounced around the league a bit as a fill in. |

I agree. He will be on the final year of his deal, I think if you package him with a pick you can unload him(I'm sure trading another pick will be popular). I agree with others though, injuries have taken him out of having value unless he plays outof his mind in the playoffs somehow. |

how many possible futures are you guys getting into?! Did you discuss a shortened season? How about a November start? December? How about if they restructure the playoffs again after another spike? so many contingencies!
