I agree. He will be on the final year of his deal, I think if you package him with a pick you can unload him(I'm sure trading another pick will be popular). I agree with others though, injuries have taken him out of having value unless he plays outof his mind in the playoffs somehow. - neem55
Trading a pick will be very popular in here
Personally I don't care what it takes to get it done. The NHL took money off the table because of a global pandemic . Sometimes you need to shift the thinking and make adjustments.
What I do want Benning to do is ice the team that he thinks will be competitive. If he wants to bring back Tanev ( I don't ) then do what ever you think needs to get it done.
We have three prospect D that are ready to make the jump and not enough spots so if you need to move on one oh well.
Make sure you have the team you want . |

Rafferty - Does/can he bring more than Stecher does now?
Briesbois -Can he be better than Benn or Fantenberg
OJ is very close, but as you said who can help shelter him? Myers?
These are 3 examples of very tough decisions.
With the D it has to be better than where we were 18-19.
I rewatched the Colorado game that was on Sunday night from 2 seasons ago.
The D was (Hutton, Pouliot, Del Zotto, Stecher, Gudbranson, and Tanev) it's definitely an improvement. - Nucknab23
Rafferty is a cheaper option than Stecher for 3rd pairing RHD. If JB decides he is ready then Stecher is not needed at the price he might want.
On Brisebois he’s paid his dues & cheaper than Benn & a saw-off with Fatty probably.
OJ would be 3rd pairing LHD behind Hughes & Edler & would be insulated by Green I’d think. |

how many possible futures are you guys getting into?! Did you discuss a shortened season? How about a November start? December? How about if they restructure the playoffs again after another spike? so many contingencies! - neem55
Because it was Bettman that came out and said maybe will start the 2021 season at the winter classic. That is Jan 1. |

I don't believe Benning said he could move Sutter for assets, he might of gotten offers a couple of years ago but this is a new environment. Why would any team pay for bottom 6 players on expensive contracts when they can likely pick up equivalent players for league min this offseason?
I think we will see a lot of picks and prospects being moved to clear cap as well as standard buyouts. There are only a few teams who have a excess of cap space and we've seen prior to this that those teams can cash in on it. - belcherbd
Many teams are looking for a 3C for what Sutter can offer. His contract is about 1-1.5m too much to fit in. He has value but a creative trade would be necessary & may not be easy to find a taker in these times |

Three days in a row you have come out weaponizing old age against me. Three fuken days. I know you are not that smart but if you are going to start things expect return fire.
Keep in mind I NEVER start these things. - VANTEL

I want to see Rafferty but I have doubts he becomes more than Hutton. Rathbone is the most interesting D prospect, especially considering the Harvard news. - belcherbd
It won’t take much to be on Huttons level imo. I’d think he’s easily that & better just needs the opportunity to fit in. |

Was there a better trade in the entire NHL than the JT Miller trade last summer? - neem55

How did you guys get to next summer before the season ends and when next begins?! there's so many moving parts between here and there it's literally impossible to know if may 1st will be when playing or not. - neem55
KHL contract ends May 1st. What happens in the NHL is moot. He can be signed. |

It's new, but it's not drastically new. The cap is the exact same.
And a team could potentially want a veteran, bottom 6 forward that's defensively responsible for the same reasons the Canucks brought in Beags: stability. Someone said earlier he's learned a ton from Sutter. He's a well respected guy – one of those guys that GMs seem to love for whatever reasons we fans don't.
And I don't think you'll get a guy like Sutter for league minimum. Maybe a guy who has bounced around the league a bit as a fill in. - NewYorkNuck

It's not really moot if you're planning on both or either to be in the lineup for any portion of the season. In fact, that was the majoirty of the conversation, as obviously he will be signed may 2021, that's not really much of of a question/debate. |

Bettman doesn't know if this season is going to happen. Next season is pretty far from clear I'd say. |

I just think next summer's signings and their relevance to next seasons's playoffs is a bit much. Quite a bit to discuss for the potential playoffs(this year) that haven't started, but hey do you! |

I am not certain about next year either but seeing it is sh1tty weather I am inside today passing time. If it was sunny I would be out .
I have taken a peak in other threads and they too are talking cap and rosters. The CBA and cap was confirmed yesterday so that seems to be what people are talking about. |

When or if the 2020/21 begins is up in the air. As for Hoglander he is signed & if he makes the team he will play if a season. Pod can be in the same boat but at a later date. That’s all I know & all I need to know.
Are we on the same page or what am I missing? |

Right. For the 2020/2021 season though, not for next summer. Anyway, all good. I misinterpreted and would not have guessed that next summer was on the list for today but ya I understand now. |
