Testing is not important. People need to return to their lives. We will develop herd immunity and the flu will be done with. Stop believing your government overlords.

Considering you can get it more than once herd immunity isn't doing anyone much good.

I keep coming back to the question: is all of this worth it? I find myself landing on, no. I don’t think hockey really ranks up there on the scale of important things that need to get up and running right now.

Honestly, as much as a hockey and sports fan as I am, I find myself agreeing with this, for hockey and the other major-league sports as well.

Another thing that has come to mind is, do the NHL and other leagues have an exit strategy. In other words, do they have a specific set of circumstances (e.g. certain number of players diagnosed positive and/or with symptoms), spelled out in advance, such that if those circumstances are met, then the playoffs get shut down immediately? I think this is quite necessary, but I suspect the owners might not want to look at that elephant in the room.

It's a business and a job. We all take risks. However leaving my family for 5 weeks would suck balls. That is asking a lot.

Do the hotel workers, drivers and rink employees stay in the bubble or do they go home at the end of their shift?

Good question but they probably go home. That’s my guess.

CNN is awful but so is Fox. It’s definitely true that people need to get back to their daily lives but still be cautious and smart about it, especially in areas where the data isn’t looking good(where cases and more importantly hospitalizations/positive test rates are on the rise). Wear masks. Keep distance. Gradually everything can and should be returning to normal. As for sports, as it was already pointed out, if the major European football leagues can do it there’s no excuse for us to not do the same here in North America.

For the most part they all get to go home. You are tested before you come into contact with anyone daily. Apparently if 15% of a teams tests come back positive they are “recommended” to shut it all down. So that’s like 7 of the 51 team members. I’m not sure which doctors this comes from but they are “expecting” 4% positives before the games start and expecting under 1% positive once games start. I gotta say the NHL has done some amazing work with this weather it works out or not they can’t fully control but I can’t see how they could have prepared any better then this.

"Positive Cases" are not actually on the rise, just recently june 14th, they (the CDC) have been counting "probably cases" as a part of the "total cases" and advising the states to do the same. Which is why so many of these states have been rapidly rising in "total cases". and to boot, many of the states do not disclose the "probable case" numbers, just "total cases" to the CDC. Its all so (frank)ing disgustingly politicized.

Any one that isn't for term limits in all facets of politics has to have a screw loose. Like you should get 10 years total of public office no matter where (sen., rep., gov.) you are, and maybe an additional 8, only to become president. these career politicians don't care about anyone.

They are most certainly on the rise and June 14th was right before the massive spike.

Do you have a source that I can read about this "probably case" stuff? My understanding is that nothing is considered a positive case until its test confirmed.

Data Sources, References & Notes: Total cases are based on aggregate counts of COVID-19 cases reported by state and territorial jurisdictions to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since January 21, 2020, with the exception of persons repatriated to the United States from Wuhan, China, and Japan. The numbers are confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases as reported by U.S. states, U.S. territories, New York City, and the District of Columbia from the previous day.

Yeah ok. They show both confirmed and probable here. They are not lumped together as he said.

Confirmed are most definitely on the rise and probable, going by its definition, means those are most likely covid as well. The probable are way lower than the confirmed...but are most likely Covid anyways.

It’s not on the rise fam. Testing is up so positives are up. There are also massive amounts of false positives. Also people that test positive for antibodies are being included in many positive numbers being reported. 7 day rolling average of deaths are less than the were when this all began and that’s even with the cause of deaths being mislabeled as virus related.

Yeah we need to apply the aging curve to politics and stop allowing people past their prime to hold office.

Infections are majorly on the rise man. Majorly. Sure, some of what you said definitely applies but infections are majorly on the rise. Younger people getting infected will mean less people dying than say in Italy where the hardest hit places had the oldest age demographic in their country...but who have the young people that have been infected the past few weeks been around being contagious? We'll see in the weeks that come.

I mean all of this is just about Texas. One of the states with a major uptick in new confirmed cases. Sure, some of you said is mixed in there but most of them are not.

The players have been home with their families for 4 months this whole time. The 5 weeks away only applies to the 8 teams that make the semifinals, 3 weeks for 16 teams and 1 week for the 8 Play-in teams. Teams may get swept so it could be less than 5 and 3 weeks. It's not going to be a lot of time for 16 of the teams, basically an extended road trip. During the 2019 season the Capitals went on a 6 game 12 day road trip. Players will adjust and it will be fine as long as they stay in the bubble.

If players opt out after deciding its not worth it for them and their families fine. I really don't see a lot of players opting out as they realize the health of the league and their ability to make money will be hurt if they don't play.

The health of the league is a long-term loss, not a short-term loss if they re-start and there's another shutdown. Realistically if there's an outbreak amongst players just a week or two in there will have been more money lost trying to set this thing up only to have it fail.

I personally don't see a scenario where any major sports or public events will work until there's a vaccine.

Texas has already confirmed that positive antibodies results were included in positive numbers being reported. Hospitals are operating at the same capacity as normal. Death rates are at the same rates as normal. Masks are pointless. Allowing only small portions of the population to get the virus at once only ensures the virus will be around much longer than necessary.

They handled this poop a lot better than we did, but then again many countries have. What has Alex Jones had to say?
