I’ve little to no issue with Pageau’s contract. He’s an extremely versatile player that’ll contribute a great deal to any future Islander success.
Komarov, Hickey and Ladd on the other hand... - Wildschwein
Don't forget Boychuck and Eberle.... Yikes. Your top 2 players on this squad are up and the only way your getting through these unforseen circumstances is to trade good players away. In my opinion you have to trade Leddy and Cizikis who still have value while freeing up 8.85M. Even that would leave fans disappointed, as it is not a sellers market. You may be able to package either Hickey or Clutterbuck with your 3rd rd pick for garbage, which would be just fine. Amazing that they can announce the cap will jump to 86-88M, then quickly retract it after many extensions were inked across the league. yikes |

I think Leddy and Cizikas would be enough compensation to unload Boychuk. |

I can see the argument for Boychuk, but Eberle? Since when is 5.5 per too much for a 20 goal - 55/60 point winger? |

Wanting him gone, and willing to let him walk are not the same thing.
Cizikas is and has been a solid Islander and deserved fan favourite. But unless he’s willing to take a pay cut on his next deal, he’ll leave the organization no reasonable option but to cut bait. Sucks, but it is what it is. |

Clutter is making 3.5 mil, Komarov 3, and you expect Cizikas to take a pay cut?
Good luck with that. |

IMO, Trotz puts too much importance on the 'identity' line. I can't imagine any other coach in the league sitting Johnston in favor of Martin. It's just weird as hell.
Some players take a bit longer to find their offense. Casey's offense has been showing up the last 2 seasons. He isn't as good as Pageau, who I think is a solid addition. It's just the price and cap I'm worried about. If the Islanders need to give up prospect and more picks to move money contracts, it could spell some very rough years in our future. - Puckin_Island
I can’t imagine any coach wanting to play either due to them both sucking but I guess that’s a whole other subject. Martin is done. Great guy, liked him as a player, but it’s time to move on. Johnston is a useless player that some fans have a strange obsession with and think for some unknown reason that he’s going to develop into something other than he is. He won’t. |

You two will get along just great. Nobody said they can’t wait for him to be gone. I don’t think there’s an islander fan alive who is not a fan of Cizikas? Money, age, injuries, reality. That’s it can’t keep the guy ideally you would hope a younger guy could step in but not sure we have one? That’s the problem. |

1) If it were up to me, neither Clutterbuck nor Komarov would be making more than 1.5 million per. Actually, Komarov wouldn’t even be an Islander.
2) Eberle took a 1/2 million pay cut to remain an Islander.
Lee left an additional 2 million per (Montreal offered him 9 per as a FA) to remain an Islander.
So yeah. If Cizikas wants to remain an Islander, I expect him to take a pay cut. If he wants to cash in on free agency, I’m cool with that too. But I wouldn’t overpay to retain him. |

Nope. I just care how these guys help the team. They made millions they’ll be ok. If they no longer help the team I don’t want them to stay because they’re nice people. Maybe Martin can get some kind of job with the organization? |

No no not with me (frank) that I would rather have a railroad spike driven through my nut sack. I’m talking with Martin and Casey. - nyisles7
Beat my edit but yeah I agree with you. I would rather light myself on fire with low flammable fluids and maybe kill myself with a butter knife if I were still breathing then grab a beer with you. |

Big change from your original post I wouldn’t doubt MM gets some sort of employment with the Islanders at some point. |

I just assume that’s a given. A great guy who has done a ton for the community and gave a lot to this team. It’s just time to move on. |

What he is right now is a better skater and fighter than Martin is right now, with lots of upside. And he's cheap for another year. |
