#mnwild GM Bill Guerin says the NHL has ruled that Kirill Kaprizov, if signed for 2019-20, can come for Phase 3 and 4 and can skate in Phase 3 and 4 practices. He would go with the team to Edmonton and be part of the 31 players
Staple assumes the same is true for the isles
Edit
Agent for Ilya Sorokin (and MTL pick Alex Romanov) confirms that Sorokin can join #Isles for Phases 3 and 4. Window to sign for 19-20 opens tomorrow at noon. |

It'll be interesting to see what # they assign Sorokin. Lou hates high numbers. But then if he's not actually playing, they might hold off till next season.

Let’s get him signed before we pick what number he’ll wear. |

So, now they can play this year? What a back and forth drama this was. Can he even get a flight to Canada?

There's always charter.....I guess. I was just trying to figure what else could go wrong.
Oh, I know. The Isles sign him, and he show up and is put in quarantine for 11 months.

Now I'm reading that these late signings may not be allowed to play in the playoffs?
What the hell would be the point of bringing them to a HUB city just to participate in phase 4 practice, but not the playoff games???
I'm confused. |

He can't play in games but can be on the practice squad and in training camp. This allows him to get on the ice and not have 9 months off |

He has to remain in a bubble to practice. It hardly seems worth it. He would be better off signing an exit clause contract in Europe or the KHL. Then the Islanders could sign him late for the playoffs, or in the summer for the 21-22 season.
If the Isles do sign him, they will need to protect him and leave Var exposed in the expansion draft. What a mess. |

Might not be the worst thing for him to have plenty of time to acclimate to the NHL-size rink. Shouldn't be too bad, CSKA played on a Finnish size sheet which is somewhere between the NHL and international dimensions...but it still wouldn't hurt. |

Pretty sure that's exactly what they intended to do. Either Varlamov gets drafted and we free up $5M in cap space or we have, potentially, two good goaltending options. |

Agreed, while also adjusting to life in NA. Getting to know the team, coaches, surroundings, etc. Of course it’s not ideal burning a year but I don’t think it’s as big of a negative as some are making it out to be. May make for an easier transition for him which in turn could be for the best. Either way this is the hand we were dealt just have to make the best of it and go forward... |

Love to see Varly and his salary gone but we would have to resign Greiss. We don’t have any other options in the system for a back up. |

Well they'd have that entire summer (or whatever the hell the offseason will be going forward) to take care of that. If Sorokin turns out to be total dogpoop, they can just expose him too. They'll have plenty of acceptable options. |

Well I mean Varly is a pretty capable goaltender. Not perfect, but a problem either. It wouldn't be like we were back to the pre-Nabokov days but it would be disappointing that Sorokin wasn't what we all hoped he was.
That said, I really don't think that'll be the case. He's a hell of a player and his arrival could end up being a big turning point for this team. |

The Islanders would be crazy to open next season with just an unproven (in the NHL) goalie. That freed up $5 mil will be used replacing Var.
