Team hires 20 people. 17 provide little to negative value. Those 17 are released. 3 are kept because they theoretically bring positive value. Team fans get angry because the assumption is owner doesn't want to spend money on a quality staff. |

We’ve seen mitts and tage forced into the line up above their development. I can’t wait to see it done with a goalie. And while I have hopes for cozens, throwing him in a 2c roll is just a mistake.

Expensive mistakes, as we keep burning years off of ELCs before they are ready to play. |

Their ELC's go into effect once they are in the AHL. The only thing that gets effected is the win column.

Yeah, Murray was an idiot. JB also spent 4 third round picks for nothing of value, which makes him an idiot as well. And he drafted 2 low-ceiling defensemen in the 1st and 2nd rounds. He was awful - jcragcrumple
He spend it on worse than nothing, he acquired poopty players with multiple years on his contract. |

We really need to stop pretending these two were similar, at all.
One was an unmitigated disaster. The other sat on his hands and couldn’t get two good forwards when he needed it - sbroads24

They arrived at the right conclusion for the wrong reasons.
We're better off without him, by far - jcragcrumple
If what Adams says, that they are going to rely on a numbers based approach, I will agree.
If he's the third GM in a row to do the exact opposite of what they said they's do (Probably because the owners meddle) it will be the same dogpoop results |

Yes I know, and Mittestadt contract kicked in too soon. Reinharts did. Nylanders did. It goes on and on. We have been bringing our prospects to the AHL and NHL too quickly, thus wasting 1 or 2 years on their contract.
Botts did not build a winning team in the AHL. He signed vetern AHL allstars, definitely not the same as developing our minor league teams. |

you can't have an owner and a gm sign up for a 4 or 5 year plan, given the murray mess, and change expectations and direction of the team 3 years later
botts sold them on the build from the bottom up philosophy 3 and a half years ago and said it would take 4 or 5 years to compete on a regular basis
they agreed
when 24 teams got in the playoffs instead of 16, terry and kim had a veruca type fit, and changed course
any gm right now for the sabres is a lame duck, as they follow orders from the owners and the owners change the rules right away
murray was told to win now
murray's 2 big assets brought in, botts was told to ship out
I am not defending botts, more miffed by the lack of interviewing people to replace him - homiedclown
Yet they went in to last season with a kid goalie with 24 nhl wins and:
played a 34 year old goalie with bad vision?
Maybe these moves had to do with losing botts job

Murray left this team with almost 0 assets and cap.
Botts left Adams a choice of which three top 4 RD he can trade for a forward, the #1 ranked prospect not in the NHL in Cozens, and flexibility with the cap.
They aren’t in the same world.
Both bad GM’s, but Murray is historically bad - sbroads24

Does this make Ralph a terrible judge of talent?
Because he sure loves him some Risto.
And some want him to be GM? Yikes. |

I hate to say it but Schopp is right. The fact that this franchise still thinks Ristolainen is anywhere near valuable is Exhibit A of how far off the mark this franchise really is.

I understand the Sabres wanting to operate the Amerks differently, but I still wonder why Tayls was canned. If you give the man a directive like play the kids more, I'm sure he can be flexible. - TheSabresTaco
Wasnt the amerks made up of hired "ahl guns" ?
Career type ahl guys and our better prospects?
0 ZERO playoff round wins

yet ralph is running the show, knowing the goalie was being played with bad vision
it's like the reaction doesn't make sense based on the action

Or because the coach interferes because he loves playing a supremely boring, conservative, safe style that totally conflicts with the style of his best players, like his puck moving defensemen... |

They suck as owners, and continuously hire the wrong people, and 9 years out of the playoffs proves it.
There's more to owning a team than having a fancy dressing room.
It's great that they fired a lazy scouting department, but how can you defend these two? |

Jokiharju would look even better if the coach actually allowed and encouraged his defensemen into bringing the puck up the ice (zone entries). |

What if these two just aren't good? Isn't it possible that Mittelstadt and Tage just aren't NHL caliber?
As for Cozens, he will have the same development path as Reinhart. Draft +1 then into the NHL (maybe 1.25 depending on if the WHL starts on time). If he's good, he'll make it. - jcragcrumple
Completely agree that they can be just bad at the hockey. But they were clearly forced into the lineup above their current development at the time, it was a disaster and Terry (the second smartest person to ever own a hockey team) wants to see more “kids” rushed to the big club. |
